morning all :D Four-Feet I have done mostly what most men do, And pushed it out of my mind; But I cant forget, if I wanted to, Four-Feet trotting behind. Day after day, the whole day through Wherever my road inclined Four-Feet said, I am coming with you! And trotted along behind. Now I must go by some other round, Which I shall never find Somewhere that does not carry the sound Of Four-Feet trotting behind. Rudyard Kipling probably on ch 9 news tonite 6pm -

My lovely girl Paris. I helped you draw your first breath. Your markings were exactly the same as your g/mother. I thought you would take over from Magnus as chief dog, as your g/g/mother was, befor e him, and you were doing well. When the baby came along and wanted to be boss, you didn't fight or disagree, you said you would be first lieutenant and my guard girl. You never failed to bring me a present, and sing me a doggy song when I got home. You never failed to cheerfully agree and obey, you always brought me pleasure. Sail on, golden bird with your mother and half brothers over the bridge. I'll never forget you, my beautiful princess. -

Be happy over the bridge, little boxer kids. I saved the other 3 of the litter, but when I went back inside, you had left, and there was no suffering for you. Your mum willl take you as she carried you on earth -

My beautiful baby girl. I waited such a long time for you, you were so special - you ran in the garden and filled my heart with pleasure and my eyes with beauty. You got off the plane, sat on my lap, looked into my eyes, and trusted me to be your friend. And I was. You did everything i asked from you, gladly. Like most of your breed you were endlessly cheeful and happy. As you grew, your beauty grew with you - and your beauty on the inside too. You were kind to the fluffies, gentle with the cats, but you were prepared to stand between me and any (maybe) burglar. You said you would be the boss after Magnus, and you were having lessons. You would share and play with the llittle people and never steal or threaten them. You were a decorus lady when in public, and a knockabout kid, playing footie or wreck the toy at home. You were just beginning to lose your teenage ways and become a beautiful adult dog -- and now I will see you no more. I expected a lifetime, but the universe called you home after I'd learned to love you, to recognize your nose in my hand, your head on my lap. My heart is broken - you were such a good girl, you were born knowing and you always gave me 120%. The universe sent the dog I wished for, but only on loan .. Perhaps you were too good to stay longer. But to be here for such a short time... There's a corner of my heart given to you. -

How about something on registered purebred dogs? There are heaps of topics, conformation shows, junior handlers, obedience, flyball, agility, earth dog --- you could show dogs doing different things, and speak to their owners and the judges at competitions, and owners at home. Show pups growing, getting ready for some competition, speak to owners and breeders. there's enough there for a hit series on Ch 7, if only someone would do it. Just an idea which is close to my heart. Uplifting and fun.
-
What reason did the breeder give you for not transferring the pup to Main Register kyxen kennels? I don't think there is a problem with limited register, personally.
-
Jed, there are Bull breeds hanging out of the trees, massive amounts of Staffy breeders along with the BYB's cross breeds etc etc, but I haven't really ever noticed DA in good Staffy a well bred Stafford with thought out genetics or an APBT from an experienced breeder. The DA Staffies I know of thinking about it, are all BYB, petshop type deals or crosses???. Is an influx of crap dogs perhaps contributing to the Bull breed aggression???. The point I was making that bullmastiffs, mastiffs and bulldogs have all been implicated in fatal attacks, and judging by some of the pro BSL statements made in this thread, they should be banned as well. If you take BSL to it's logical conclusion, you ban ALL dogs, because ALL dogs can attack. And that's where we are going. I'm not getting into the nurture vs nature debate
-
JackieA1 the photo the the "pitbull" which always accompanied every story in the SMH was actually a cross bred pound dog, but he looked as if he was a killer, so they used that and they still use it. And he looked like a big boy, but it is doubtful that he actually contained any pb blood.
-
Abigail Have you ever actually SEEN a Pitbull in real life? Dr Barr's research echoes research done by others over the years. Are you in denial?
-
How horrid, and so sorry about the dog. You can complain to the veterinary registration board in your state, and also complain to the Australian Veterinary Association

I have been using glysophate at recommended rates for about 20 years+ for permanent removal of weeds and grass in gardens and under fences, in areas the dogs access. I don't let the dogs near until the grass/ weeds are dry, and I've never had one show any interest. They probably do run through or brush against the dead grass. No dog has ever had a problem, and I don't think any of them died from anything to do with the weedkiller. I actually do believe the fact sheets. And there have been occasions years ago where dogs have been present when spraying was occurring, and perhaps they encountered spray drift, or brushed up against the weeds when they were wet. Again, no problems. Boiling water, or salty water is ok, but it needs redoing often, and you sometimes don't get a good kill I have also used (agent orange) on properties before it was restricted. Dogs were kept away when spraying was happening, and not allowed near the area for at least 24 hours. This was years ago, and none of them seemed to suffer anything, even years later, from it. However, the eye which has grown in the middle of my chin worries me ..................... :D

We did say that if the APBT was banned, idiots would simply choose another breed. When staffies are banned, they will choose something else. Oh yes, bullmastiffs, bulldogs and mastiffs should be banned too. Have attacked.
-
Maybe because you haven't looked for it? ;) Schutzhund with JRT 1 Still haven't found that peke schutzhund though. looking, looking, looking Give up :p "Let his front legs be bowed so he cannot stray too far" Not an ideal candidate, in my opinion!! As for chihuahuas - they'd be winners in schult. My vet said (from experience) if they were the size of rotties, they would have killed the human race long ago.

This thread is about irresponsible owners and lack of containment of dogs, not about breed bashing. I was asking about the breed of dog as mere curiosity. I guess, given that some people are in the habit of saying that the media only ever potrays stories that consist of bully breeds, I am trying to find out if it is a case of media sensationalism or perhaps if there is truth that some breeds are more DA than others. Just in quest for the truth, not breed bashing. My hubby and I have owned german shepherds, dobes, staffies, american bullies and have looked after friend's rotties so I have nothing against bully breeds although, as I have said before I would never again own a staffy due to their 'high prey drive.' Every other breed has been an absolute pleasure to have. why not go and look at the dog bite stats - not what's in the media, the actual stats. They are listed state by state. Ascertaining which breed attacked a couple of dogs on a forum is not going to give you any relevant information, but the stats will. Abigail What's a "Purebred English staffie" for a start? Second, DA is often a fault of training and socialisation. If pups and juveniles are not socialised, particularly males, they can become DA. If they are menaced or attacked by another dog during their critical period, they can become DA. I would suggest that as you stated that ALL your staffies were DA, the problem arose due to lack of training, and/or lack of socialisation, or both. DA staffies exist, as do DA any breed, but correct training and socialisation usually resolves any issues. Incorrect training usually exacerbates it. The problem is NOT DA staffies, or DA anything, the problem is having gates which open from private property to public access land so dogs are able to access public land. And I would suspect that this dog was probably not DA, but territorial - he viewed the footpath as "his", another dog was in his territory, ergo, he did something about it. I was not there, but I would think that DA and territorial would be neck and neck for the cause of the attack. Writing off every attack as DA shows lack of research and information Dogs ARE usually territorial, which is why gates should be kept shut. The half grown dog over the road has come to talk to my dogs through the fence. He comes in friendship and curiosity. They view him as an intruder, and threaten him (through the fence) with death and dismemberment. Naturally, he responds with a lot of four letter words and some aggro. Then we have a bark and snarl fest through the fence. If one of my dogs got through the fence, I have no doubt that the dog over the road would be seriously injured. Last time they were at it, I turned the hose on the lot of them and said some four letter words myself ("down" and "stop"). If this dog came to the gate, and I welcomed him, my dogs would be friendly and nice to him. My dogs are not dog aggressive in any way, shape or form. However, they are dogs, and they are guarding their property. People who own dogs need to understand why various forms of aggression happen, and they need to ensure that this aggression doesn't happen. There is a difference in the REASON for a dog in an off leash park attacking another, and a dog rushing out an open gate/jumping a fence to attack another dog.....in most cases. And I have yet to see an aggressive staffy, but the ones I mostly see are at dog shows, so I presume they are carefully bred, and owned by people with good knowledge of the breed and sufficient training skills. Not all APBT are dog aggressive either. There is evidence from USA that thousands are kicked, beaten, starved, set on fire and dumped because they were not dog aggressive, and would not fight for their owners. Some are dog aggressive, but in my experience, APBT which are decently bred, and brought up right are no more aggressive than other breeds. I've seen some very nasty and aggressive boxers, but that doesn't stop me owning them, or make me want to have the entire breed banned. The nasty aggressive ones should be dealt with. I've also seen some extremely nasty chihuahuas, one of which gave me some of the worst dogs bites I've had, but I don't think they should be banned either, because most of them are nice. Once you begin categorizing attacks by breed, you lose the plot. Once you want to ban breeds because members of that breed have behaved badly, (attacked fatally) you are looking at banning Labradors, GR, Irish Setters, St Bernards, Boxers, Cattledogs, Crossbreds, Maltese, Rottweilers, GSD, Huskys, Chow Chows, Akitas, Pomeranians, Malamutes, Pit Bulls and Staffies. Oh and Cocker Spaniels. And you disregard the thousands of respresentatives of each breed which have done no harm - ever. 3 boxers killed their breeder. Does that mean I have my boxers euthed in case they attack me? Does that mean I scream to have the breed banned? No, but it ensures that I understand that my breed is a very strong dog, which can do immense damage, so I train and contain them appropriately, I breed with suitable temperaments, and I ensure they go to homes which will not allow them to become aggressive. Luckily, the breed is nowhere near as popular as staffies, so there is less chance of unsuitable ones being backyarded and being owned by the wrong people. And by advocating BSL you absolve individuals and councils of their responsibility to adhere to and ensure that existing legislation is enforced. As Ti did when she reported the dog. Every dog attack should be reported. Every council should be made to take action. Whether it is going to the house and talking to the people about adequate fencing, keeping the gates shut, and training, or declaring the dog as dangerous. Whatever the breed. Dogs, per se ARE dangerous.
-
It is so very frustrating when this sort of thing happens time and time again! People just will never learn! :p I guess it is a false belief system with some people that their beloved dog would not hurt a fly, yea right! What breed of dog is the attacking dog? What relevance does this have :D Because Abigail thinks breed is important. She is our chief proponent of BSL, so of course breed is important ;)

Agree with Erny and Corvus, and agree with Pers. I think the dog is fretting big time. Pacing and drooling is a really bad sign. She is uncomfortable and unhappy. She misses her previous home, and is sad and anxious. She will probably improve with time, and they shouldn't have too high expectations so early. She will probably need a few months to return to her "real" self.

The original deal was that you paid a deposit. The bitch returned to the breeder for one litter. Then you were to receive your deposit back. Right? the breeder told you the bitch went to WA, had a caesarian, and was returned to her home state soon afterwards You were rather amazed about that, and were discussing it/asking questions about it. You didn't believe the bitch was sent to WA? Were your querying that? I don't understand "she is not returning refund due to date of a call made at the time" By "call", do you mean phone call? Is she not refunding because you asked questions about the bitch going to WA to whelp? If your contract says nothing about where the bitch should whelp, the breeder, legally should refund your deposit. Are you being punished for asking too many questions maybe? Was the bitch returned to you in good condition? Do you have any concerns about the care the bitch received? Is your main problem not being given a refund? Unless the contract stated otherwise, the breeder could send the bitch to Alaska to whelp if she wanted to, without breaching the contract, or giving you any reason for complaint. If the contract stated that your deposit would be refunded when the bitch had a litter, you are entitled to a refund. and I know quite a few people who sent bitches to WA to either be mated, whelp, and have the pups legally docked, and returned to their home state, without incident. I know a couple of breeders who did exactly the same thing, except it was to NZ. Now that docking is no longer legal in WA, many more will send bitches to NZ to whelp, and the bitch and pups to be returned. Many breeders are vehemently opposed to their breed not being docked. And if they feel strongly enough, and can afford it, they will send bitches away so they can have docked pups. I am strongly against some previously docked breeds not being docked. However, I did try it. I now have 2 undocked examples of a previously docked breed, and I am ok with that. Not happy, but ok. I have done the same with the other breed, so I have 2 undocked examples of that too. The second breed is a disaster with a tail, and as I will not be flying dogs to NZ, I will not breed that breed again. When I want another one, I will import one pupm, probably from NZ, as many breeders/exhibitors are doing, and will continue to do.

What Worming Suspension Do You Recommend...
Jed replied to ravensmyst00's topic in Breeders Community
Yes Beck, you can, but it is not approved for use in dogs, so you buy the one for goats or cattle, and use that. I use it on my adult dogs, but never on the pups. I do my pups with Drontal. Isn't Troy the one you have to do 2 days running? I have used Combantrim, and I have a couple of friends whose opinions I respect who never use anything but Combantrim - because of the price, and it works well. I did hear that it was difficult to get, or something had changed - but I am not sure. -
Yes, that has happened here too, and they are breeders who we shouldn't lose. The ones who were taking the breed forward in the best possible way. Interestingly, I have spoken to 2 of the oldest and best respected breeders in the country, and neither has ever seen SM, although they do know quite a bit about it.
