Contact the Cocker Club of Victoria (sorry, don't have the web address, google is your friend) email them, and ask. They will probably know someone. I think you want the head, ears, chest and feet clipped up, and the back coat perhaps thinned and shortened. A cocker groomer will do that.

That's fantastic, GD, and I think they will be happier together. If there are any problems, the offer still stands. Mine were all looking forward to having someone to talk to. They love having doggy visitors. Krislin - I know you didn't mean me!! Thanks for all those kind words about the boxers, everyone. :)
-
Me too please ! And the really good thing is that you only need one bed!! Delightful dogs. Thanks for those nice comments Labradore,I love red (or fawn) boxers. I think Henry is quite pleased with his bits!! Love the way they are the focal point in that photo!! I have to creep up on them with the camera, if they see me coming, they get up to greet me .... so I just snap what I see!!
-
No no, she doesn't want to go anywhere near him!!! He's a baaaaaaaaaaaad boy!!
-
Ha, ha, I definely wont pinch one!! I bloody have enough, thanks very much. Also, I am the limit of my breeders' permit so cannot have another one. So, which one should I ditch to pinch one of GDs? Which one would fit better with my breeding program? Hmm, not sure. Have sent you a pm, GD. Edited to add that I remember the case with Blossom (pomeranian?). Such a nasty thing. I would probably have choked the neighbour in the beginning and saved the court case!!! Just need to see which of the dogs will get on with the others. Talk to you when I see you.

Simply Grand, I could take one .... as long as it was happy to be part of the mob. Would be inside. I think perhaps Saxon? Would he be happy to be inside most of the time, outside for runs, toilet and exploratories. He would go into the crate for his dinner. He sounds like the one most likely to succeed here with the other dogs. We have lots of dogs, and never any problems. I have a very elderly cavalier, and wouldn't like a new dog to upset him - and a smaller one would probably suit me better. I live between Brisbane and the north coast. Takes about 1.5 hours to get here from Gold Coast via M1 Gateway. If you are interested you could bring him or all of them up, and we could have a talk about it, and see how yours would fit in. Nothing worse than being somewhere which doesn't work with the dogs.

Hazy Wal I have sent you a PM.

Of course people can comment if they want to. And I might point out that you are commenting, by the way. Yes, they lost their home, and probably a lot of other things, and their pets. Yes, I think they probably should have done more. I am not asking them, I don't know them. I am having an opinion on a newsworthy event which is of interest to me. I have not taken any information from facebook. Just because you don't agree with these points of view doesn't make them wrong. Comment on the situation, but why comment on others points of view? And, hopefully, this post might give guidance to people in similar situations in the future. I would now call around and collect my dog if it was in a fire threatened area in a boarding kennel. And I would ask prior to sending the dog what evacuation means were in place.
-
StephM The $1000 question was - why was he fighting a fire elsewhere, and not at home, keeping an eye on his own business? I haven't seen any news report which suggested the the owners were overseas, or that the man was elsewhere fighting fires, but I am not in SA.
-
Their job was to be responsible for those animals in their care. Their first job. At best they made a frightful error of judgement, at worst, they couldn't be bothered. The news, together with very illuminating photos, and the male owner's own words, tell a lot of the story. The fact that all other kennels evacuated is very telling - the information was there, and others acted on it, why not these people? Additionally, why were they not at the kennels? Why did they return later with the CFS? Better to have unnecessarily evacuated, than done nothing, and pets burned. No one expects them to rush into the fire, but it is expected they would be pro-active, with the welfare of their charges foremost in their thoughts. Why did they not encourage owners to retrieve their pets when they asked? Poor judgement? Just because you do not agree HW, does not mean there is a lack of compassion on the part of others. People are entitled to their opinions on this subject, even though they do not agree with yours. I feel enormous compassion and sorrow for those poor helpless animals who perished and their bereft owners, who expected, and, indeed, deserved more from those to whom they entrusted their pets. OSS, and others, I don't think anyone is blasting all kennel owners - just discussing this particular case.
-
I feel so terribly sorry for the pets lost and for the poor owners of those pets, particularly those who offered to come and take their own animal home the day before, and were told there was no danger. I would happily donate a puppy or a dog to someone who lost a dog in that fire.
-
Certainly does, Indigirl. So many poor boarding souls lost. Most of the pets (and people) who die in fires die from CO poisoning, or smoke inhalation, which is very fast and painless. Some do burn, but the minority. I think it might be better to give any donations direct to the kennel owners, rather than through someone else.
-
Absolutely frightful. How appalling for all those poor pets. Now over the bridge. So sad. On facebook, it says offers were made to relocate the dogs yesterday and when owners phoned to ask if they should collect their dogs from the kennel, they were told "no" by the kennel owner, and that there was no danger. Mr Hicks said "We went back to find the fire ... had burned down our cattery and had burned down a significant part of our kennels,”. Which I take to mean he was either not there, or had evacuated, but the boarding animals were still there to face the fire. I wonder why there was no evacuation plan which was put into place yesterday - apparently there were offers of help, and offers of places for the animals. I am the last person to criticise in this situation, but it bothers me that offers to help were rejected; moving 100 odd dogs and umpteen cats was going to be a long job. Perhaps they thought the fire would go somewhere else, and perhaps they didn't realise how fast fire moves, particularly bushfire with high winds. Whatever, God speed to the poor pets crossing the bridge, fortitude to their owners to help them with their grief, and strength to the boarding kennel owners, who lost everything in the fire. My sincere sympathy to you all.

Anyone Ever Ordered From Whelpingsupplies.com.au?
Jed replied to fuzzy82's topic in General Dog Discussion
Well, there are 18 days between 6 - 24th for delivery. 2 1/2 weeks. I would be upset too if my goods didn't arrive in 18 days and there was no explanation from the supplier, especially if my $$ had been received. Might be everyone's best friend, but poor service is very unbusiness like. -
No, ones with correct conformation do not drool. Ones with correct soft palate and throat formation do not snore, and if fed the correct diet they do not fart either. Correct diet means BARF. I could tell you a funny story about some boxer exhibitors who won everything at a show 5 hours from home, won a carton of Pal, and in the absence of any will at 10pm, gave each boxer a large tin, so they could celebrate too. Naturally, the trip home involved windows down, and all heads out the windows!!

Fuzzy if you are a registered breeder with the CCCQ you can have up to 9 dogs, pay a fee for your breeders' licence, and a further annual fee for each dog. Again you must have over 3000 sq.m.
-
Added to say Noishe's dogs are well bred, and I would imagine they wouldn't drool much either. It is really important to buy from a proper registered (with their State CC - ie Dogs West) breeder, preferably one who has been around for a while - not 12 months or so - and who has some idea what you are talking about. The "right" breeder will know, and will be able to help you. Unfortunately, in the dog world there are plenty who make a big noise, yet know nothing. Do your research, expect to pay a fair price, and make sure the breeder knows what they are talking about. The dog you want will be will conformed, with good head and skull conformation, and will come from a good experienced breeder. And not have a heavy, head with a lot of flew Check out the Boxer sub-forum here where boxer owners speak about their dogs, see if you can see some you like, and pm them to ask where their dogs came from.
-
Welcome to the forum. Congratulations on choosing the best breed to own. Well conformed boxers do not drool much. I own and breed cockers too, and they do salivate more. American boxers drool as much or as little as other lines. Chose a pup from parents without large pendulous flews, with good mouth conformation, and good tooth placement, and a chin (repandus) and not too short in the nose, with no nose roll as an adult. It can be difficult to pick that in a puppy, so check out the parents. There are few or no people in Aus breeding 100% American dogs, so you wont get a 100% American dog very easily, but a few are breeding dogs from some American lines. The dog with the cropped ears is a Canadian dog (American lines)USA Ch & Can Ch Berlanes Joint Venture SOM. I have a bitch by him, who does not drool .... all boxers (and other dogs) drool when offered food, or when they are excessively hot. She does not drool otherwise. The other brindle bitch is home bred, and she does not drool either - she is all Australian lines, going back to UK lines. Good luck.

Unless you are showing, clip the area fairly closely. As others have suggested wipe with Hydrogen Peroxide once daily. This seems to kill the bacteria, and keeps the area clean and smell free. Used by most cocker breeders for lip folds to prevent dermatitis. And you could try putting the water into a spaniel bowl, which may help keep some of her face dry. Probably wont though/ Ernie, hate to disagree with you when you have shared so many good ideas, but I found calendula tea not terribly effective for this problem, although good for others :)

Those fees seem a bit excessive. What symptoms does the dog have? And I to would recommend Perth Vet School at Murdoch Good luck

Unregistered Pups From Registered Parents
Jed replied to Staffyluv's topic in General Dog Discussion
I cannot understand why people would be members of an organisation, agree to the rules, and then flaunt them when they don't suit them. Makes me sick, and pulls every honest and reputable breeder down to that level. Registering all pups makes things easier (in the end) for the breeder, and certainly for the buyer, who then knows what he has is the genuine article, and not something else. -
The MBRC doesn't care about animals. They recently tried to blame the decline of Koala numbers on 'wild dogs', even though they've allowed most of their habitat to be cleared. I rung up once to report a stray dog. They put it down as a roaming dog complaint, I said 'I'm not complaining I just wanted someone to rescue it because I couldn't'. Nope it had to be a complaint, which makes for incredibly misleading statistics. Also Major Sutherland was caught on tape trying to set-up his opposition with a sly donation from his developer buddies. From what I have witness, I wouldn't trust MBRC as far as I could throw them and would document all dealings with them. Re the koalas - sorry to be ot. I read about a survey (probably the one you mention) which was properly done by either uni or Koala organisation. Began with 600 - most deaths were indeed due to wild dogs, a couple (very few) by domestic dogs, and a couple more by road accidents. Habitat was not mentioned, but the survey was not in an area with reducing habitat. I am trying to get a copy of the survey, will post again when I do.

Is There A Cheaper Worming Option Than Panacur?
Jed replied to indigirl's topic in Breeders Community
Panacur will last you for ages. And works out quite cheaply, just expensive to buy. Do you use it 3 days running? I have been using Fido's Closasole - 100 tabs are not too bad (compared with Popantel or Drontal). It does all worms and is not expensive. It's often a good price on the net, if you look around. Ovids (think that's it) in Q is pretty good. My vet thinks it is a pretty savage wormer and can cause stomach upsets, but I have had no problems with it. You can also use Ivermectin, but it is off label (Sheep and Goat, or Cattle one), and you will need a vet to tell you the appropriate dose. I did know, but have lost my book with quantities. However, it does work. But I always usd Drontal liquid with pups. -
The RSPCA has been having dialogue with the Labour party on this legislation. I have been having dialogue with the RSPCA. I don't think they have much idea either, and like most legislation enacted in Aus in the past few years, this will impact severely on registered breeders. There are hardly any remaining, and external forces are driving more and more away ... this will be yet another nail in the coffin. RSPCA cannot answer my "difficult" questions, which is rather sad.

Did Christ not say? "....and not a sparrow falls" There is no Catholic doctrine as such on souls of animals. Believe what you will. Wasn't the Catholic church teaching us 40 years ago that no sin goes unpunished, and most of us were destined for the hot place? On that basis, animals are more likely to access heaven than humans. And Pope Francis does seem, to me anyhow, to be the most Christian pope - with Pope John Paul II, in centuries.
