German Shepherd Fights Off Muggers In Canberra
Jed replied to Shepherd 08's topic in General Dog Discussion
That's really funny. Dumb robbers. A while back a burglar went through my street - not over the road, because of the barky dog, not my place, same reason. Went next door because the 3 rottweilers were sleeping. Not for long, and the burglar was caught at the hospital when she (yep, it was a woman) was having her leg and arm stitched up. Police were waiting because neighbour found bits of a pair of jeans and a shirt on the ground, and the dogs were very restive, so he phoned the police. Gotta love dogs! -
Help And Advice For Comet - Urget
Jed replied to dogbesotted's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Has he had Baycox? He may have coccidia? Symptoms are similar. Sub cut fluids? Or if not possible, a small and frequent squirts of glucose water into his mouth with a syringe. Scourban should cover everything else, except parvo. Good luck, thinking of you and him. Go Comet -
Well,I don't see it like that. I see that the people involved have no interest in dogs/animals, except to bolster their own egos, and make some money. You may think this is a learned attude, and it may well be, but the basic evil nature has to be there for the attitude to take root. Even someone steeped in the culture would not continue with it when he saw dogs being maimed and killed and badly damaged, without being evil. No one who was not evil could electrocute his dog for losing a fight. None of the behaviour of the people in the film was "normal" imho. But that's only my opinion. You are entitled to yours as well

LM -in Maryborough, you also need a battery operated lantern or two - for power cuts, cane toad invasion (LOL) and flooding. My dogs would all have followed me. I think yours would do so too. Quickest way would be to have leads with handles near where the dogs sleep, make them into a sliip lead (2 seconds)and lead them out to whatever setup you have in the car. Don't sweat it - the percentages are on your side, not many houses burn down. Thanks Koe

Oh course they are evil. People don't need someone to tell them something is wrong, they intrinsically KNOW it is wrong ... unless they are evil. There can be NO justification for this type of behaviour. None. Never.

And to you silverdog, have a good one

99% sure to be worms. Worm now, and worm again in a few days. Doesn't matter when you last wormed, worms can slip by, depending on where they are in the life cycle. Oh, and even if it isn't worms, wont hurt to have an additional worm treatment. It's not an emergency

LOL, tis a horrid video. I don't think anyone who loves dogs could fail to be moved by it. And pf dogs have such a terrible life. I have rehabilitated a few, and it is so difficult for them - they don't know their names, they have no idea about anything. Such torture to allow a dog to get to that, and we not only allow it we license it. Fully sick!!

Yes,MM, it is the long road back which is the rub. Empty your inbox mm.!! Someone earlier in this thread asked how to avoid fires ... I thought I was pretty savvy. Lots of escape routes, fire alarm, extinguisher ---- the problem was it took too long to take the dogs out. If I had left them I wouldn"t have been injured. If I had left all the pups in the dining room, I would probably be ok. My choice, my burns, I guess House was not timber, it was cavity brick, but the plaster ceilings and the internal walls which were not cavity brick burned, and the insulation burned like mad . Important things are to build or buy a house with plenty of exits (my house had 4). If my house had had 2 exits, I would have perished. The house where I am staying now has an exit from every room - friends built it themselves with fire in mind. But even that wouldn't have made a difference. Have torches always in the same place. Know where your mobile is and keep it charged. What would have made a difference? For all the dogs to have been outside. If they had to be inside, they should have all been in one room with direct access to outdoors, which probably means sleeping in the laundry, not the bedroom. Then I could have opened the outside door, and taken them all out together. That's not an option for me, but what are the odds of the house burning down again?

So many evil people in the world, thinking there is some justification for what they do. The wickness of people still manages to surprise me. I note that dog fighter Tuscan's Black Dog was euthed by the authorities 4 days after he was arrested. He was free on parole, but the dog is dead. Maybe she is better off dead? He had no regard for anything except his own fat guts.

ANKC breeders already pay membership renewal prefix maintenance puppy registration council registrations for each dog - renewable annually breeders licence / permit where applicable. this registration, I presume would need to be renewed annually. This will make it very difficult for some of our great and mature breeders, who probably breed a couple of littters a year, and are on the pension. They will have to rake up a few hundred more a year when they are already raking up a few hundred they can ill afford. The cynical side of me suggests that Cap'n Blight has appplied registrations to things no one would ever believe could be registered - so perhaps this is just another money grab, but on the other hand, the $$ would hire a lot of inspectors, which will keep the unemployment figures down!! And then, of course, there are the people who are doing nothing wrong who will not want "inspectors" tramping around their home. that is two good reasons not to breedl Much cheaper and easier to buy a pup to show. And most of those mature people would havee no problem getting a pick pup. the 66,000 pups a year will be down to 50,000 before we know it. And once again, the public misses out. I can't see what itt will do for puppy farmers? this is a video of a disgusting puppy farm. It is fully llicensed by the council/government, and undergoes inspections, which it has passed evry time. i think we are simply driving ethical breeders away, and making more of these. http://www.youtube.com/user/Openrescue1#p/a/u/2/erWL0v_tsKo

Attn: Breeders In Toowoomba Who'd Be Prepared To Talk On Radio
Jed replied to FranVT's topic in General Dog Discussion
Why not email or phone dogsqld and ask Mark Sheppard? He is the publicity guy and should have a handle on it - we hope!! -
aussielover Hybrid vigour does exist. Unfortunately, the hybrid vigour as known to gardeners is not the same as that exhibited in dogs. Don Burke was always raving on about "hybrid vigour" when 2 different dog breeds were mated together. There is hybrid vigour if a pea is crossed with a bean, which was what he knew about as a gardener. Unfortunately, he thought it could be simply extrapolated to mammals. More unfortunately, a whole lot of people who should have known better believed him. It is not so simple with dogs, and crossing one breed with another doesn't do it. Crossng one species with another does it, although that is largely impossible. Hybrid vigour can be introduced to a hugely inbred line by introducing another strain, (not another breed). However, hugely inbred lines, as has been proven by the scientist who bred 200 generations of inbred rats without them having problems, do not necessarily need this. Very complicated subject! Tessies Tracey, did you eat something that disagreed with you, to be projective vomiting all over the forum??

Here is a nice video which shows anyone interested where most of the cross bred dogs bred these days come from. Accidental doggies bred by the bogan in the next suburb who thought desexing his dog would rob him of his manhood aren't produced like this, but often it is not much better. And some of the purebreds who get a bagging on this forum are featured in the video. Never mind that a proper breeder would not under any circumstances breed with them. Because they were bred at puppy farms, who neither know or care Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/user/Openrescue1#p/a/u/2/erWL0v_tsKo

Oogh, look Q. Vic had a parrot, VERY quiet and good natured sight hounds, and a Cavalier. "Famous" means someone other than you mother knows who you are. WTF is Poodlefan? Sounds llike something on a Chinese restaurant menu? And it was Moe where's my cigar?

Thanks for posting that Beck. I think it is bullspit. If the judge was doing that to the dog after the class, why was the other competitor standing waiting to table his dog? If the video was sped up, why were none of the people in the film speeded up? What does it for me is the increasing look of horror on that poor pup's face. It gaited out nicely with the owner, and then baulked at returning to the judge. The judge might lie, the video might lie, but the little pup didn't lie. There was some discussion on another list, and apparently this judge has had other complaints lodged against her. Not that that is important - the bottom line for me is the reaction of the pup. Edited to add - the pup certainly gaited wonderfully for a pup which dragged it's backside earlier, and it was happy about the owner lifting it off the table, no attempt to bite - nuh, don't believe a word. Saying "This is the truth" is supposed to be the mark of someone who is lying Seems to me as if the judge is doing a #1 coverup. Not only does this look disgusting to people who don't show (as we have seen here), but it IS disgusting. If any judge tried to do any or all of those things to any of my dogs, and particularly a pup, in the ring, I would poke her eye out.

Thanks, Kavic. I think it did help people to understand why a standard would say something like "almond shaped eye". Well, really, who the hell cares. It is not unless you are a breeder, or an exhibitor that you really understand, and none of those people ever explain to everyone else why it is so ... because they never think of it. And there are so many breeds - not everyone knows about all of them. Often, conformation features are the difference between the dog being able to do his job, and maybe dying while he is trying to do it. Anything which will help everyone understand the standards, their purpose, and the integrity of the purebred is good with me. I have no problem with x breds, or mongs, and my only problem with pf is the way the breeding dogs are kept. But purebreds win hands down for me, every single time.

I feel sorry for the poor dog. The eye looks like glaucoma to me, so I hope a vet has checked him and he is not suffering. And he has the very worst wry mouth I have ever seen. Hopefully they realise that when he is older he probably wont be able to eat. Wonderful that he has a loving home - and lets hope he has been checked, and not just passed on. Keira&Phoenix, not all of us agree with Dr McGreevy's ideas - particularly as he was studding his no particular breed, not health tested dog on the internet. He gives no references for his writings. Here is a website - you might like to read both sides of the argument to be informed of all points. http://www.wwsva.com/small-population-bree...iversity-issues Might be time to bring back the Lithuanian Goat Catching Retriever, Kavic??

Unfortunately, Deshonko is having some difficulty filling the huge number of orders being received. This is a new development by Shonkypaws, and will suit those seeking a handbag pet, or a tree ornament. Come complete with their own cork to prevent farts-in-bag. For Christmas tree ornaments, place red bow around neck - contrasts well with green eyes. Orders are being taken now, and our ugly gnomes elves will be delivering these cute little numbers prior to Christmas.

Sorry, MM. Don't be harrowed, be pleased about the improvement No, I've kept all my beanies - you never know! And I've come to like them. Paricularly the pink Elmer Fudd one!

Mita, the cav kids thought all those flashing lights were just for them, and all those people with hoses and sirens and dog carriers had come solely to see them. And to take them for a ride in the car. If you are a cav, you believe every happening is solely for your enjoyment or benefit. Particularly if you are a well loved cav. The cavs are settled with their new fosterers - I hear about this one grabbing a shoe and jumping onto a couch and missing - and that one looking up, and saying "soooo, make me!!", and the oldies giggling and wagging, and I know all is well with them. The baby boxer is frightened of overalls and strangers, but we are working on that. I am still living with friends, growing stronger, but not yet well enough to live alone. I think it is going to snow. I never believed I'd wear 3 layers of clothing on 21 Dec in Australia!! My friend (who lives here) says summer will come in February - for 3 days, and to be sure not to miss it! Have had some big milestones .... can now stand on my left leg (but not my right) when dressing without falling over. If I tilt my head back and shut my eyes, I don't fall over. I can go up and down stairs one foot on each step, instead of 2, but I still need to hold onto the rail. I could never have believed those things would have been important milestones in my life!! I am driving - the other drivers need to be very careful! So far so good. The house hasn't been started yet - too wet. The builder wants me to do a no-rain dance! dogmad Do you want mine? You know you do!! Rather than being fostered, the indominatable Chi Chi is living with my daughter - and her 2 big black dogs. We discussed whether Chi should have a ticket on the bus to the bridge - daughter said her walking wasn't up to much, but her eating was fantastic, and overall, she thought she was happy. Then Chi attached herself (by the teeth) to the face of one of the big black dogs at teatime. Oops, I forgot to mention she was food aggressive ......... and daughter promptly decided anything that fiesty wasn't going to any bridge any time soon while she was in charge!! Kitty the burned cat is all healed and most of her hair has grown back. Also with my daughter. My hair has grown, and I needed a haircut - I dyed it to celebrate that important milestone. When your head is shaved, apparently you grow a mohawk. I can go out in public without people staring and pointing. You may have seen me at a show, and not even known!! How good is that? ;)
