As a breeder, I don't want to know their whole life story - although I know some breeders do. I only want to know that they are the best people to have my precious pup. As for "sudden" buys - I had a call from someone for a puppy. We had some discussions, their dog died suddenly and they wanted to replace him asap. Nothing wrong with that, imho.
-
The complaints finally bore fruit. Dr. Smith was instrumental in the introduction of BSL into this country, so I am at this news.
-
Shocking. Makes me feel sick. From the first news reports and the owner's quotes, it was plain that no one was there. These people were either very care-less, or incredibly stupid. Other peoples animals - should have been evacuated. These were the only kennels which lost any pets. They totally ignored their duty of care to their customers - and their pets. Just sickening.
-
I remember him too - and was so happy that he had a good outcome. How wonderful to know that he made 14, and probably as happy as could be. Happy birthday Leo!!

I respond nicely to every enquiry, and I too have a standard response to enquiries from puppy ads. "Thank you for your enquiry .............." and it continues for three short paragraphs, detailing what I am selling and asking them to contact me again if they are interested. If they do contact me again it is time to begin asking them questions. No buyer deserves a nasty reply. It might be my 500th enquiry, but it may be the buyer's first. Even if he doesn't want a pup right now, a reasonable response makes him more confident to seriously enquire in the future - and that helps the future of all pedigree dogs.

Hope it all goes well, having the will to succeed is often enough, and WSS are lovely dogs :)
-
I realise this is totally ot, and will probably be slammed - I love WSS, but would just like to say "how about a Cavalier?" They move right in to your home, train you how to do things the right way, love the kids, cause few problems. I sell pups with confidence to "dog-dills" because I know it will be all good. If they haven't bought one, (and they probably have) ask them to think about it/ Medium grooming, shed like hell, otherwise just perfect and there were be no problems. Only from the most reputable breeder who does heart tests on the parents and ancestors and has specialist results.
-
That's a good outcome - and nice to have the doggies home at last. I did feel for you, know how difficult stuff like this is, and specially renting with dogs. From the attitude of some property managers, you wonder if you said "wild tigers" instead of dogs!! And some people never understand the joy and pleasure dogs bring us - and they are poorer for that. Don't forget I am here if I can help - the offer, or one like it still stands.
-
I will share on facebook too. Hope someone is checking the pounds, they probably wouldn't know she is a Border terrier.
-
No blackbun, they will come when you are out, drag your pup away, put him in the cold cold pound, and you will have to prove to them that he is not a pitbull .... which you will not be able to do, so he will become one of those stiffening dogs in the black plastic bags. I do understand and appreciate your wish to have the breed you want (and Ricey) - no one knows better how if feel about BSL, but putting your dog in danger should not be an option. WA is safe, of course.

Just another shallow,self-absorbed narcissicist person. Might put others like herself off buying a pup which can only be good.

Because, dee lee, the op, in the original poster said ... I certainly wouldn't class a retriever as "small-medium" and they do require grooming. Additionally, they are large enough to flatten the children, and probably a bit large for the op to have inside. Also, the op considered corgis and dacshunds and spaniels, which are small-medium. Schipperkes fit into this niche too, but they are not mainstream and are often overlooked. I don't have Schipperkes, but I know several, and the people who own them just adore them. They fill all the criteria the op listed, and they are simply wonderful with children. They have a huge presence and personality in a small body. That may not be what the op would like, but it is certainly within the specifications. And - something diffent for the op to consider/research. -

Hi Mercedes - you wanted a medium dog, and given your situation, particularly with yard size and children, I think a retriever will just be too large, and will need too much exercise. A cocker would be great in terms of temperament and exercise, but they DO require quite a lot of grooming. A field spaniel would be great too, but there are not many breeders, so you could have a long wait. A Corgi, imho would suit you well. I grew up with Standard and Miniature Dacshunds - and they weren't at all snappy, but things may have changed!! Probably need to get the opinions of a couple of breeders. Also, a breed never mentioned, but worth considering - A Schipperke (pronounced skipper - kee. Not large, with a medium coat which needs minimum grooming, great with children - mentioned as being specially close to any children in the family - reasonable exercise requirements. Not a terrier, but reasonably active. Can bark a bit,but as they are very clever, a little training should remedy that. They were actually a Dutch Barge Dog. Price seems to be round $1000, depending on the kennel. Here is a link to a Schipperke who has done all sorts of things, with photos showing size. There also profiles on dogs here. http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/profile.asp?dog=29637 And here is a link to a photo Supreme Ch Beadale Little Captain (pinched from the Dogzonline profile site) http://www.dogzonline.com.au/images/profiles/11/06/25996_1495_sm.jpg They come in black and the occasional cream. Two litters in Aus now, so not as difficult to obtain as some of the spaniels. Just something new to think about. I breed Cocker Spaniels and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels - and I would recommend you investigate the Schipperke. You might hate the way they look too. -
Unfortunately blackbun, there are people who are stealing dogs to use as bait dogs or whatever - whether they are "real" dog fighters or not does not matter, the fate of the pets is very grim. Same situation applies to the roosters. It is not easy to buy fighting roosters in Aus, and I guess the right kind of person would figure he could turn the rooster into a fighter.

Illegal Dog Fighting Illegal Dog Fighting LOCAL NEWS 28/01/2015 Reports of illegal dog fighting in the Terang area has led to calls from Police for pet owners to keep a close eye on their animals, particularly those with Staffy's and Labrador's. Police ask that pet owners make sure their yards are secure, that their pets are away from street view and inside at night if possible. Senior Sergeant Russell Tharle says people should report any suspicious activity.

Oh my dog! All the stories on that site! So many lies! Who are the people who run and work at this place? There is something very wrong with all of them! Graeme Smith

Korbin, I hope you come back here - there is a facebook group "Boxers in Australia" --- for boxer owners. Mostly pet boxers, and everyone posts photos, dog doings, new pups etc. You will probably only see the good (and funny) side of boxers, but will increase your knowledge.

The outcome will be interesting. It is much more profitable for a shelter which is working for councils, to euth than to rehome. They are paid for each one, and with euth, the costs are much less than to rehome = more profit. Appalling ethos, appalling culture, upheld by management. Sickening, and has been for a long time. People have been trying to instigate change for ............. how long? Years

Very frustrating, DDD, I do feel for you. Hope he will come back to the bone broth. -
This is not strictly kosher, but person b owns the bitch and the prefix, so there is no problem with them having a litter with their own bitch and registering it in their name, and giving a pup to person a. I presume the bitch lives with person a? Person a can certainly whelp the bitch in their home for person b. Am rather bemused that a Q dog can be shown in NSW. Can only do that in Q for 3 months.
-
Lovely dogs, Korbin, but not for everybody. Unfortunately, the dog you meet when you go to someone's house is often not who the dog really is. I had someone stay here for a week to care for the dogs and although he already knew them, he was suprised at how different they all were - more mellow, he thought. But do go and meet some. Sensible training from puppyhood is important, and so is being able to spend a lot of time with the dog - not particularly doing anything, but this is a companion/guard dog, which wants to be with you, and can become difficult if kept outside or not given sufficient people time.
-
I hope there is no covert agenda here re the petition.

DDD, so sorry to hear about the ongoing trials of Danny - and you. Not to worry about the vet - some people are born nasty (probably fell on their heads at birth) and continue that into their careers ... mostly then progress to DPI or research, or working for a pet food company - am sorry you met her. Take no notice. Sending healing thoughts to you both. Lighting a candle. -
I lived, for a lot of years, in Western Qld, in a place that often topped the summer temperatures for the state. No air conditioning. The boxers were fine - and we went for long horse-rides, with the dogs running about - not on the 48 degree days, but it was hot. No problems If you get a dog whose head is more or less according to the standard - ie, nose 1/3 of the head; wide bottom jaw - and large nostrils; decent flews but not too large or pendulous; and nice tight bottom eyelids, the dog shouldn't have any problems. Large nostrils to take in the air, nose not too short, plenty of space under the hard palate for air. I know I always cite the standard, but it describes a very good dog, and if a dog has most of the attributes, it should cope well. Buy from a decent registered breeder, not someone who is in it for the $$, or who started breeding 2 years ago. Good luck. Great breed.
