It's ok to have a view - it's not ok to be nasty. I notice nowstaring didn't treat you as you treated her. It's good to know there have been reactions to Advantix. However, you should now back up your assertions with some references, thanks. And Powerlegs asked for an alternative, you have not replied to her as yet

Pumpkin - I precook mine a bit in the microwave to soften it Most fruits - bananas/pears/apples/stone fruit etc. Mine wont eat citrus, some will. Occasionally I cook potato and chuck it in processor. Brown rice contains Vit B. Just feed occasionally And add some organ meat (liver/heart/kidney) The more different things you add, the more balanced the diet will be - not over a day but over a month. Good luck

It isn't a law, although they continue to call it Oscar's Law. As far as I know, it has never been put to parliament

RedAngel - I know - I posted a link to your thread too!! Sheridan - Mantis is following up comments made on whether the Clifford story was correct. At the time it was very sickening, and Mantis was quite distressed as were we all, and she is horrified to think that people don't believe it happened. Sure did, as noted in the papers.

... reading this makes my first thought that of just how uncomfortable your little dog is ... and how hard it must be for her to be confronted with rude pups and be unable to escape ...and then, if she tries to be non aggressive ..you remove any safety she had .... If she were mine .. She wouldn't have to put up with it .... edit to say ..any rude pups/dogs not under control would be severely growled at ....by ME . Bet they wouldn't come back.! What Pers said. Your girl doesn't like being annoyed and is looking to you for relief.

Dogs Who Visit Hospitals And Nursing Homes
Jed replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in General Dog Discussion
My mentor spent the last couple of years of her life in a nursing home. When I took a boxer in to see her, she would light up - and promptly tell me what was wrong with it, and why I should have bought one from her instead  (some things never change). The boxer meanwhile would be being adorable, whilst sweeping it's big galooty tail around the room, doing untold damage However, the best thing for me is that the woman in the other bed who never moved, never changed expression when I came along, would sit up a little and smile when I had the dog. I used to take the boxer to her bed and although she didn't pat it, she continued to smile. Bella the boxer used to visit Auntie Marg with MS in a nursing home. Nothing much worked except Marg's fingers, and Bella would lay her head on Marg's lap to be patted. Bella is very gentle. There were also 2 resident dogs, some scruffy kind of poodle x, and they were a bit difficult about strange dogs but we managed. They were good with the residents. My cousin is now in a nursing home, and I am caring for her 12 year old Cavalier, Dan. Dan loves going anywhere, but he drags me along the corridors of the home to see his boss. He is so pleased to see her - and of course, she is delighted to see him. He lies at her feet when we are there. He also says "hi" to any other residents who are friendly - and those with food he especially welcomes!! My experience is that most people who are in nursing homes welcome dogs visiting. Dogs do things to our spirit - there is no way to measure it - but they do it particularly to the weak, the old, the sick and the disabled. And perhaps the dogs give them a little more than they give us. None of my dogs were trained, but all managed very well, and I would recommend this to anyone who gets the opportunity, and has a suitable dog. -
You can't tell me who to respond to, I was replying to a post that mentioned Clifford. Yes, but you're one of the 'It's true! It's true' people, aren't you? Is the Clifford story not true? According to photos, and the RSPCA website, yes it is true. It was scandalous. At the time, we were taking bets on whether poor Clifford would survive when he ceased to pull donations. I think Sheridan is trying to find out if the story about the cattledog is true.

Thanks Griff :) This is the blurb that has been accompanying the clip on FB: And here is her wesbite and bio Stacy Westfall and the horse which she had trained from 2002-2008 Roxy I have no idea why anyone would fabricate such a story, but they do it all the time, that's why Snopes and Hoax Slayer exist. Thanks for that. Yep, there are a lot of rumours flying around the 'net. That one is a doozy!!

Re Clifford's Temperament from the RSPCA link They used Clifford as a donation magnet. 28% of their income is actually spent on animals. From their annual report.

Redangel has posted a facebook link on her thread in "IN the News". Some information on there although I would like to see something more. https://www.facebook.com/justice4max There is no doubt that Clifford existed. He was saved by the RSPCA who said he was used as a bait dog - which is likely. I don't think he had temperament problems, he was touted to the presss and the public and frequently handled by strangers. When his wounds had healed, he got the chop. Maybe because he was a pit bull; maybe because he couldn't pass the temperament test. Maybe because it is more cost effective to knock the dogs off. This organisation is big bu$ine$$ and seems to have some right wing animal rights committee members - and they have no regard for dogs. Their only agenda is to stop people having pets, to close zoos and circuses and to ensure everyone is vegetarian. Plants apparently scream when they are cut or picked (according to scientific data). WnH Who is Stacey Westfall, and what is her real story please?

Someone I know, who lives in a tick prone area, puts some garden pest remedy on his dogs, instead of the usual dog ones. I have no idea what it is, but he tells me the ingredients are exactly the same. He has been using it for years without any problems. He is quite a sharp and switched on person. I am not sure about generic dog products, but the generic tablets and medicines seem fine. Do manufacturers not take the same care with animal products?

And why would you suspect that I read nowstaring's remarks to other posters? What exactly was in my post to make you read that into it? It might be time to accept that having a pov is good, but bashing others about the head with it doesn't win any friends, nor does it advance your case for whatever it is you are promoting. You also need to accept that scrub ticks are often fatal to dogs, and dogs in some areas need protection from them.

Agree with all that Ricey - nothing really changes. And people still believe the PB will kill them as soon as look at them. So disheartening. IMHO, there is little difference with entire male dogs. As a breeder all my friends have entire dogs. No problem. Desexing is all about not allowing the public to own entire dogs in case they get some female dog pregnant. My neighbours have an entire RR x staffy, and I don't see any different behaviors. I am not going to ask whether breeding APBT in WA is legal or not, but if so, and if keeping one is legal too, grab one when you want one, before they ban them. Otherwise how about a Amstaff? Or a standard poodle!! Great dogs. Saw an apricot and a silver with stunning lion clips in the back of a tradies ute at the pub a few years ago......how impressive, a tradie with no issues!!

Can you link to the source with some information? A picture on FB doesn't scream legit to me. I have nothing else, which is why I am asking. The blurb said he was the face of the million paws walk, failed the temperament, because he turned his head away when they wanted to look at his teeth - not bit, just turned his head, and then he got the chop. Bloody disgusting I am surprised any dogs meet all the criteria that satisfies the RSPCA. So you know this dog in question has been PTS ? or just jumping on the RSPCA hate wagon as usual ? Have you considered going back and reading my first post? I am asking if this happened, not "jumping on the RSPCA hate wagon as usual"> Are you one of the RSPCA apologists?

Rosetta nowstaring was not being a "great salesperson" - but is simply citing the facts based on scientific research. Yes, dogs can and do have reactions to all sorts of things. Human shampoo, with incorrect PH is one which causes a lot of skin problems in all kinds of dogs. Dogs have reactions to wormers, insect repellants, food. It's good for people to be aware of problems with products, but you should accept that they either agree or disagree with your point of view without you resorting to unpleasant remarks. :)
-
Edited because I realise I didn't read your question correctly. You are wondering whether a particular line of dogs has a specific disease? The only way to find out would be to ask the breeder - "have any of your dogs had this". PM me if you like

Same as the rumour about the blood and bone fertilizer. Hard to prove. Worker at Laverton unlikely to be wrong, but will now deny! :)

5 Months Old Puppy Dies During Simple Surgery
Jed replied to Pockets's topic in General Dog Discussion
I would suggest complaining to the practice owner/manager, and advising that you will be complaining to the Veterinary Registration Board in your state. NOT the AVA. Or, go and speak to the practice manager. I once had something similar happen, complained to the owner of the surgery, and the vet was dismissed. Good outcome, but didn't bring the dog back. I was also credited the cost -
How sad for the tortured puppy --- but it's good to see sentencing is beginning to reflect the severity of the crime .... and to send a message that this behaviour is totally unacceptable. Shame it wasn't a longer sentence, really. But it is a beginning

Oakway Probably wont matter. There wont be any around. When breeding a litter becomes x4 more than the returns, only the wealthy and really obsessed will continue. The idea of this legislation is to remove dogs from pet ownership. Full stop. Pitbulls docking all reduced numbers available, and AR found that via legislation, they could win, as no one would stand against them, because no one had a pitbull, and docking is cruel, so now they are going towards the end goal.
-
I am not in NSW, but I have sent a submission with a few points. They probably will ignore me, but it gets the numbers up if nothing else. Trouble is, that MPs do not understand what they are legislating for because they know nothing about dog breeding. Unless we all support each other, there will be no purebred dogs soon.

The article said "rehabilitate" which is a bit odd, as the pups were earlier in the article, stated to be in good body condition. Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.
