I hope she is ok, casnpete - shall send healing vibes. Doesthe vet know what the problem is? That's great about the breeder paying for the eye operation. May I suggest you get a quote from the vet, and ask her to refund part of the puchase price for the eye operation. I say that because in 3 or 6 months, she might not be around, and/or she may change her mind. So, if you can get it now, you wont have to worry later.

Firstly, I think you should consider what Cavandra said about tonsilitis. And perhaps PM her for some assistance with trreatment for it. That can often be the cause of young dogs and pups not eating. And if it is, you have your cure immediately. I can't quite tell what breed she is, and have only read this thread. However, try cooking her up a little stew - a bit of meat in enough water to cover it, with about the tip of a spoon of vegemite. You can add a few veges if you want, but the veges should only be about 5% of the meal. Potatoes, pumpkin, beans. or something like that. The veges are not important. Don't make e a lot, and you can use offcuts from your meat if you wish, or you can stick a meaty bone into the microwave with water and let it stew well during the day. Feed this runny - not like soup, about like stew, or a bit runnier. Let it cool to room temperature before offering it. Take her onto your lap, or if she is too big, onto the couch, sit with her, and let her lap it out of a soup bowl. If she wont eat it, don't worry (you're no worse off!!). Give her time, give her pats and cuddles. Other option is either 1 or 2 eggs, depending on her size mixed with milk, scrambled and cooked in the microwave. Do the same thing. Offer it to her in the microwave bowl, on your lap, or on the couch. Anyow, far away from where you had been feeding her before. You could also try 1/2 cup of cows milk, mixed with a little honey, but I'd try the first two before I did that. Or, you could add 1/2 tin of Dine, or My Dog, or cat food (mince in gravy) mixed with it. Like some others here, I think she could have a problem, but have no idea what it could be. Only vet tests will reveal if it is a problem. I had a very difficult dog once, and she had a terrible medical problem, for which there was no cure. But either of the above might get her to eat a little The other option is to stew up a little beef liver in water, and try her with that, or try that sprinkled on her food. Good luck, it may not work, but it is what Id try

Regular Red Gums, Lot Of Drooling/horrible Smell
Jed replied to mita's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Mita, it sounds like an infected tooth, or a couple of infected teeth, to me. The infection may be below and gum line, I also would see a specialist in dental matters. The other option COULD be - cancer, but I'd explore the infected tooth theory first. It's not very likely. Lip fold dermatitis would not produce red gums. Curly girl, what is aquadent, please? -
My voite goes to Razor RX too - I have the corded ones. They cost $90 with TWO blades, about $100 posted. I got mine from Animal Clipper Blade Sharpening in Sydney. Fantastic service, and fantastic back up servicen lots of information and advice. They do what I want very well - and much nicer to have only spent $100 rather than $200. I have had Andis, Wahl and Osters over the years, and these are no worse - although only 1 speed, which should be good enough for pets rather than a grooming salon. Here's the web address if you want to find out more. http://www.freewebs.com/clipperbladesharpening/index.htm or e-mail Animal Clipper Blade Sharpening of Australia (this is a free ad from a happy customer!!)

Robert Humphries is qualified, his father was a chiropractor, his brother is a chiropractor, a lot of show people use him. I have used him, and got good results. He has had excellent results with 2 dogs I bred. One was diagnosed by 2 vets with luxating patellas, cost to repair $3000 per leg. Robert found his pelvis was out. 2 Visits fixed him. The other had probably fallen off operating table, and could hardly crawl around. Neck out, soon fixed with some physiotherapy by the owners. $40 a visit, no charge if nothing needs to be done. Ph 55477595 0418 730 189 Each chiropractor does not work for all dogs, IMHO.

I fed CN Chicken and Rice for about 10 months. All the dogs did well on it, and I was happy with it.

How tragic, to lose all of them at once. I do feel for you. Such a terrible thing. I guess you are sure they were the 3 hit by the train, it sounds too coincidental, doesn't it. I hope your puppy brings you comfort

He's claiming ownership. Or he has truly horrible aim!! If you remove the bowls, there wont be an issue, and when he is completely settled in, it wont be a problem at all.

Maybe Tigajess should pm chinadollbella for the breeders name? but, I've had pups with the same eating issues at the same age, and there was nothing wrong with them, so don't panic, Tigajess!! The incidence of RD and FN in cockers is not all that high. Definitely feed dry puppy food, not adult. I would also skip the rice, which is only a filler, and not doing her a great deal of good. On the other hand, depending on how long you have had her, don't change the diet too much at this stage. You can add one thing at a time - chicken necks (raw) will probably be really well accepted. I have a 6 month old pup who is a really picky eater. and has been since she arrived (and was at the breeders too). Sometimes at 10 - 12 weeks, she would merely sniff breakfast and lunch, but gobble dinner and supper down - sometimes she eats breakfast, but not dinner. If I add any foodies to her dinner, she gives me the accusatory stare - she knows I am trying to poison her. My experience is that if you offer food, it is very difficult for them to starve to death, so don't worry too much. And I allow pups to eat as much as they want. My rationale is that nature knows better than I do. If the pup was a complete guts who never took it's nose out of the food bowl, I'd amend that, but I've never had one do that. As for the house training - pups do that. They have very little control at that age, and my experience is that pups = messes!! When they need to go, they need to go NOW - not in 40 seconds. Be patient, persevere, and before you know it, she will get it. Now, we need some photos!!

Tell your friends NOT to walk away from that vet. Tell them to run like hell. Undescended testicles may become cancerous - later in life - and not having them removed till 12 months wont make a scrap of difference to the chance of cancer. And, I didn't think x rays for HD were all that realiable at that age? Dunno. Also, why spend the $$ on the x rays if the parents have good scores? It could be done later, surely. Have to wonder why the vet wants to remove one testicle now, and one later. Double dipping? the beemers with the leather seats cost a lot more

Mohican It must be a wonderful thing to know absolutely everything, and to be so secure in your knowledge that you cheerfully slam other forum users for not researching, knowing nothing and not reading the posts. Absolutely amazing. I do wish you would improve my knowledge base by telling me how to ascertain whether a pup is dehydrated? With your huge wealth of knowledge, I am sure you know, and I would like to. I realise that to you, this is probably an unimportant and insignificant question, but I wouldn't have asked if I didn't sincerely want to know the answer.

Hi, dogon and welcome to the forum. As long as the shop follows best practice, the pups seem to be ok - given variations due to their individuality. I often think problems ex pet shop pups have could be due to poor ancestry more than the way they were kept in the shop. They usually have siblings or other pups with them, and there is a wide variety of things to see and experience, although they are not in the middle of the action. And in the better shops, they are frequently handled and fussed over by staff. I'm not a huge fan of crates, so I actually agree with what the PP employee told you (and that WOULD be a first), but it's a matter of choosing the system which works best for you and your pup. mohican How would you ascertain whether the pup was dehydrated or not?

That's great news. If you can't get the trainer in the short term, perhaps the breeder will help? Or are they too far away?

She probably has had a reaction to the vaccine. What can the vet have been thinking to vaccinate her when she was not well? Particularly if she needs anti hystamines If it was my dog, I would see a good canine chiropractor in case something is "out", her initial symptoms sound to me as if something was hurting.

That's sad about Rambo, but excellent news for Detroit. Hope she continues to improve, and I guess that 1 is better than 0. Nasty thing to happen. Your vet sounds like a good one.

PF And if the vet said they might pull through? What then? Would you give them the chance, or pts? Here's what the op said When the pups become worse, the OP returned to the vet. As the vet had instructed. -

I agree with this. The OP did go to the vet. None of us knows what the situation is or was. Instead of giving support, everyone jumped on the OP. Not everyone has four grand, and for all we know, the vet may not have had any anti venene. I don't think the OP deserves the criticism either. A bit of support in a difficult situation would have been more appropriate, I think. I wouldn't like to lose my dogs and get a flogging on a forum where I might have hoped for suppport. A bit of empathy wouldn't go astray. I personally feel for the op. An extremely difficult situation. -

aj88 Sorry, at least 5 people did, and wished the dogs well. -
Agree with what Toohey said. Take heart on the toilet training. I have a 5 month old pup, and did all the right things, and she is now 100% clean inside. There IS light at the end of the tunnel!!

Dogs do tend to eat things like that. Mostly there are no problems. Occasionally one will have an upset tummy. Just keep an eye on him, but he should be fine. Years ago, mine kept bringing home some rather disgusting green meat which was crawling. It was so yummy, they all fought over it - I knew when they had it, I could smell it from inside. Turned out to be a dead shark the bloke over the road was keeping in his back yard (don't EVEN ask!!). Dogs were all ok, although I believed it would have served them right if they had been horribly ill!!

Anyone who is contemplating BARF ought to buy Ian Billinghurst's books - or one of them, at least. Give A Dog A Bone is a good place to begin.

So that everytime you kill one, you know you have saved 250,000 mice? Here's a math question. If you kill 1000 mice per day for 30 days on your property, and 2000 mice (approx) escape, and a snake can kill 250,000 mice, how many snakes are living on your property? -

My thoughts are with you and the pups, jeddica. Nasty thing to have happen. Good to see so many with empathy giving support to two very sick dogs in this thread
