  2. Okay, but it wasn't done that way in the past. They used to have the whole kit and caboodle lopped off. agreed with your there, my boy has nothing there at all, he is only 5, so maybe different vets do it different ways??? come to think of it, I havent seen many boys that are desexed and have a an empty bag to carry around! Good to see this boy doing well, there is way to many of these cross bread dogs here in the Griffith area that are breed as pig dogs and if dont perform are left somewhere...sad
  3. Are you serious? "Aussies" insist on keeping their dogs outside because we have acceptable weather to do so, and historicaly, our blocks of land are big enough and secured enough to allow this, I understand other countries its pretty hard to do so with the incliment weather, no/poor fencing and wild animals, But to make such a wide ranging comment such as yours seems to be pretty narrow minded, many people have dogs for very different reasons, Companionship, Showing, Guarding etc etc, A dog bounding around locked up in your house isnt really protecting your shed is it? Nor is it really good for your dog's mind? Do you let your dog run around your house all day with a bone? lol. I understand why some people choose to do it, but it is far from the norm here in Aus, toy dogs etc would be alot easier, but they would still have to get bored being inside whilst your at work! To me it would be like getting a Elephant or Tiger and keeping it inside, why? its an animal, they live outdoors, the forfathers of dogs before man became so inventiver in cross breeding sure as hell didnt build themselves nice cosy little houses to stay in... I understand some peoples fury at neighbours dogs though as we have a very "barky' dog next door, only really barks when they arent home but it just doesnt stop! It starts at about 9pm and stops when the sun comes up and goes to sleep throuh the day! Its not the dogs fault, whilst I dont condone violence i would put one on my neighbours chin before I touched the dog, the dog's behaviour is a result of it owners attitude, my neighbours dog is kept out the "front" off their house (we live in suburbia) to run around and becuase of this when it goes to the backyard it barks its head off and digs it's way out, I have the two boxers (about to be three) and when I come home from work open my garage door and go to reverse the dog is behind my ute and trying to get through my garage to my dogs, its constantly sits at the drain out the front and barks at it, the poor thing is that bored, its a german short haired pointer and is nver walked as leaving it out the front appears to them to be acceptable. I have met most people at the other end of our street (culdesac) and they simply cant walk their dogs up the street as "its always bloody Out", whilst it is a timid dog and miostly goes back to it's front yard it has some aggression towards bigger dogs (boxers, german shephards, staff etc) We have approached them and we get the really smart answers like "What do you want us to do, put her on a chain in the backyard" "The boys are looking after her" - (they are 3 & 4 years old) "she is just playing out the front" "your dogs are making her bark" "your dogs are aggressive and it makes her defensive" "if we put her in the backyard she just dogs out" "She is bored she likes playing out the front" you name it they have used it, i have no problem in an Adult being out the fornt of their house and "gardening or working on a car etc" and having their dog out the front off lead with them, no problem at all, but it has to be under competant supervision, the retaliation we have received was a phonecall one day saying that our dogs barked all day and kept her from having her arvo sleep and she was "respectfully asking that we CHAIN them up on the otherside of the house when we go to work" I nearly flipped out, are you serius? are people thinking before they speak when they say things like that? how does one get through life with an attitude like this? she is lucky my wife answered the phone!!! Little did she know i was home all day and the dogs didnt bark once all day! Dogs make noise, Im happy for them to do it, mine bark, 99% of the time its because someone/something is coming to close to their property for their liking, which is a good thing, too many break inn's where we live and the people doing it are scared shitless of dogs, but continual nusiance barking can make you go nuts pretty quickly! and when u go nuts irrantional things can transpire very quickly! Any one got any idea's for my situation? We purchased our House 1 year ago, they have been living there for about 10, so there is no real estate to deal with etc, it worries me that whilst she is a pretty timid dog there is no supervision, we have them on one side and a children's playground on the other, so lots of kids coming up and down the street, it only takes 1 snap! that these people don't seem understand!
  4. I am guessing iPhone 4S? They take awesome pictures outside!!!! Considering they are a Camera Phone, are u using the HDR setting in these pictures? I think they are pretty crap inside though, or im just too used to the DSLR, top shots though, and alot of fun in the 4x4's! I love playin in the Mud!!!! here is some of my fun ones!

  6. How close was close? On my 18-55 Canon (non IS though) AF will only really "sort" things out at a distance of about 30cm? Soounds like that could be your problem as you said it has happened with your bigger lense aswell which would normally show your a little to close for what the lense can handle, my 75-300 is 1.5m at shortest? Once again its not an IS lense, actually it should have the "Macro" distance on the lense? Any help?
  7. Beautiful photo's Angela, and thanks for showcasing them as it just justified the purchase of a 50mm lense to the wife!!
  8. yeap agreed, whenever something "quirky" happen's I always perform a backup, sometimes its a sign things are about to go wrong, If the EOS utility gives u another "scare' I would uninstall and reinstall it, that will normally fix things up for you nice and quickly!

rofl, is that even possible? that energy is half of what makes them such a great dog imo. As for the chewing, Mine have always been pretty good and havent chewed stuff, (ie, furniture, plants etc,) they do however go through a LARGE amount of chew toys and balls, in all the years I have only found one toy that stands up to the chewing for anything longer than a day/week, mine did havea big habit of destroying gardens (not by pulling plants) but from sitting in them, making beds in them and just hiding there, some little fences helped.
  10. Im guessing from your photo's you have an EOS? Are you using the EOS Utility to download your pic's or the generic "Windows" downloader? If using the later it will quite often go an look for "new" software updates available which makes it appear there is no software already in use, happens all the time to me with different USB Mass Storage things liike iPhone's, USB Sticks and my backup HD's. NEver had it happen with my EOS utility! It seems to be pretty solid when im Downloading even with a full 8GB card download with RAW pic's in one hit...could try a uninstall and fresh install if its giving u issues!
  11. I was the complete opposite! Never allowed to have pets whilst we grew up let alone a dog due to many factors, one was moving alot. Now my daughter knows no better, our dogs are her best friends, our current dogs are my first pets and I dont understand even at my age why we werent allowed them, they teach you so much and are there without question for you! just happy my daughter will be ther opposite to what i was, she will have her very own little puppy from birth in the next few weeks,
  12. hi, I couldnt find the one I wanted but there are nowadays a Tgripod/Monopod in one, click a button and the monopod comes out of the tripod! Could save some money, my sister is a Graphic Designer and swears by her's for its versatility! http://www.langtoninfo.co.uk/showitem.aspx?isbn=0689076994507&loc=AUD Will find out later what brand she uses, I run around with a Manfrotto Monopod which I love and doubles as a crowd "disperser" in crowded situation's, lol, and a cheap arse tripod as I dont do many tripod shots, its only used occasionally for night scenic shots, A remote is a good idea aswell :)
  13. roflmao!!! Some good video's there of thetypical boxer! Love the crawling vid, how long did that take u to train? Art of Endurance - they sure have some! Mine do a 15km run on Sunday's at 20km/h plus! they jump back in the ute and soon as their home they go and get their balls and want to chase them! great crazy fun!
  14. here's a snippet of my "awww" photo's! (some are already in the boxer thread) My daughter and her "bestest buddy" Dre! (first pic is one of a fast series that has him approaching, licking her and her reaction, the sequence is framed up the hallway, looks really good!) Lulu and Dre when he first came home!
  15. See, these are the remarks that irk me the most, such a generalistion, and such a low point of view of the population surrounding yourself! I'm sorry, but what makes you (and everybody else that makes these same remarks) the absolute judge of all? Have you ever sat back and thought that maybe they all think the same of you!? (the uneducated park people "oh look, here comes that woman with that little pommy that she doesnt even let socialise with the other dogs becuase she is to good for them, well well") a stretch but you see my point? How do you know they aren't well trained? How do you know that most dont have a recall and good manners? Just by viewing the "big" dogs running arund like nutters with each other? In that comment you are also insinuating that the owners are neglectful in their training and that you are superior in some way?! BTW, a good friend's wife has a pom, she was nearly in hysterics when her little pooch was put in our backyard when he visited here one day, (could have left lil sammy in the car like a kid at the casino) "they'll eat her" "squash her" "break her little body"...no such thing happened, you stand at his house now and say my dogs names and she runs to the front door looking for her "big friends". You have validated my argument, Your personal fears are in getting in the way of actual experience (has your Pom ever been rolled and broken bones? been snapped up in a big dogs mouth and run around like a stuffed toy?, whilst it is good to protect your "children" life does need to be lived! These same comments you are freely stating where once the opinion of white folk in the dark old ages,,,,at this moment in time I really dont think we have come to far?! All creatures, great and small after all!
  16. Rough Play? Such a strange and open word isnt it? A 50KG dog is a BIG BIG DOG...The roughest I have seen dogs play is chasing after one another, I have never seen a dog that is playing start to kick, jump on or in any other way do something that wouldnt/couldnt be considered an accident, meeting the owner and knowing the dog doesnt mean an accident wont happen! If you are at an off leash area with your dog, then you are also expecting the other owners to think that you and your dog are there for the right reasons yes? not like your there to knoock off their leads and collars and run to the nearest porn shop? (jokes) No one takes a known aggressive dog to a park to "knock" other dogs off do they? So why act and be all defensive to everydog until you chat to their owner/s? Once again, chatting to "Bill" doesnt mean his dog isn't going to roll your dog over, nor does his dog rolling yours over mean its going to have to end up in the vets! In all my time the more aggressive dogs that DO BITE and play rough are the smaller breeds, once again though it just seems really niave and silly to me that people believe a dog will play "rough", I simply dont understand it, boisterous and jumping around spinning aka boxer like could not possibly be defined as being "rough" play!? For a larger dog to seriously break a leg or injure your dog it would have to be overtly aggressive for this to transpire, it simply wouldn't happen in normal dog play! And the whole "I pick her/him/it" up to assess the situation is what im talking about, its teach's your dog nothing in the way of socialising, nor does it teach you anything in the way of other dogs behaviour's, your dog has way better sense's then you and would know whats going on with the other dogs temprement long before you realised it had its heckles up. (just saying, this isnt targeting you personally)
  17. I don't use off leash parks as a general rule but I just have to add, that is a situation I would be incredibly wary of and one I have seen turn into a disaster on many occasions. A group of strange, over aroused dogs rushing up to mob a new arrival to the park is a situation that responsible owners should avoid (by recalling their dogs before it gets to that point). I've seen that very situation turn into a very serious attack and fight on numerous occasions because the new arrival to the park feels threatened by a group of strange dogs rushing up to it - nothing at all do to with the owner of the new dog projecting "bad vibes". I too have seen it many, many times, however I have only seen it turn bad once, (im not talking about 5+ dogs) it was a case of the owner of the new dog acting scared and getting their dog all defensive before the pack got there, yes, 9/10 times they should be introduced on leads in a more surreal/sedate environment, however, its not always possible, kids will be kids so to speak, If the owner approached the dog pack in anticipation in a confident and welconming manner their own dog would learn a whole lot more ;)..the way you bring your dog up and act in these situations has alot more to do with it then people in this thread have entertained, but yes, bad things do happen everywhere, but the minoroty incident shouldnt be talked about as the "norm".
  18. I may be laughing for a whole different reason, in what conversion chart does 120cm = 2 metres? BTW (100cm per metre) Sorry if that was mean ;)
  19. Hi Guys, New to the forums, Just some advice to the contrary of many, Mine are left with all types of small dogs in their yard, the latest has been a Jack Russell pup at the age of 4 weeks, she stayed for two weeks, then went back home, now at 16 weeks she is back in our car for a month, My boxers are Male and Female, female is very dominant, Male doesn't care too much about anything, We have NEVER had a problem with another dog in their yard, The dogs work thing out in their very own (and mostly amusing) ways, the smaller dog will learn to be submissive when it needs to be and the dominant dog will learn how to gentle, You may get a few yaps or "whelps" from the smaller, a growl or three from the bigger, but that's just what they do to work it out, nothing wrong with it at all, I have never had to split them up from fighting or carrying on, any disagreements are over and done with in roughly 3 seconds, you will be surprised how quickly they adapt to smaller dogs and how much they will look after them. Train your dog right, and keep them socialised and you won't have any problems, keep them separated for certain activities or one inside and other outside and will start to get resentment in one, that will then turn nasty... As for inside/outside, If you have one it's easy to have them inside, once you go two its starts having a few issues (especially when u then have a skin kid like us), mine are always outside these days, although there version of living outside is having two lounges in a 7x10 metre shed to laze about on! Gets very hot here we live (40c+ in Feb) but they have always been pretty good, some decent shade, airflow, lots of cool water and they are fine, I walk them late at night when it's hot, and swim's in the arvo's on weekends. Keeping a dog in a crate in Australia would have to border on neglect, if you keep them in a cage outside there is min requirements of the dimension's is there not? Cheers Chappo
  20. Wow, some really big opinions in this thread! I think some more "over" protective mum's and dad's in here than in "skin" kid parenting forums or discussions about suitable day-care centres! After reading all the comment's in this thread I think that we are missing a really important factor that comes into play in this. Your OWN behaviour, All to quickly everyone appears to look down upon the people that have their dog running freely and state that the attitudes of the owners are abysmal etc, Is this not the "blame" game (blame everyone else for a situation without looking at how they could have improved the situation themselves - we aren't all perfect), Whilst I don't disagree with the majority of the comments, I also don't agree 100%, The majority of your dog's behaviour is in response to its owners demeanour, how anxious or scared the owner is feeling when a situation arises, for instance; You're in a Off Lead enclosed yard, you are walking your dog around minding your own business and there is a "pack" of overly hypo dogs all running around and enjoying themselves and they come on over to see the new "kid" that's in the playground, by the owner of the "new" dog fretting that its going to be attacked and that you don't "like" it being approached or sniffed (why are you in a "socialisation" place in the 1st place) your dog will automatically feed of your "vibe" and act accordingly, If u are scared your dog will become scared, it will either hide between your legs or will act defensively to protect its master, You will then read this incorrectly that your dog is scared of the big bad "Oscar" and you will then react again escalating the encounter! So many of these things can be combated by not only being smart about watching yours and others dog's behaviours' but also remembering first and foremost how YOU are acting in the situation. As you can tell by my name I'm a Boxer owner (x2), As many of us are aware they are the over excited jump around want to play with anyone and anything type of dog, from what people have posted up on here it shows that their own level of knowledge of other dog breed's is very limited, Dog's in general don't attack another dog unless it's over one of a few things (1. direct threat to their pack, 2. Threat to their property 3. defence) All of these are pretty easy to avoid when you're out with your dog! Unless they are attacked by a stray pack that is hunting (nasty and no way the norm) Why won't you let your little dog play with a medium, large or giant dog breed? It's not because the dog doesn't want to, it's solely because you have a preconceived idea that it's too dangerous! In my case, are the two boxers dangerous? No, certainly not, not unless they perceive (in your control) that their pack is under threat, otherwise it's all harmless dog play, it's fun, they all like it, I'm regularly looking after other breeds when owners are on holidays, they are all small/mini breeds, and play just fine with the bigger dogs! ranging from Pugs, Jack Russell's, Lab's to Maltese xhitshu?, not once have I had a problem! The only problem is other dogs owners being uneducated or thinking that they know everything! Sorry for the long rant but opinions like some comments listed here infuriate me, everyone is entitled to their opinion but PLEASE base it on fact rather than false and misconceptions on dog breed's and size's! The real problem is the owners, not the dogs, in the end you are really only hurting your own dog as they are missing out on socialising with many types of dogs, When it all comes down to it, it's a little like racism isn't it? Would you yell and rant at another "skin" kids parents because their child of different race/age/religion came near your child in the park? to me, that makes you the hysterical psychotic person that is not fit to own a dog, nor is it indeed effective control in a public place. Food for thought, Chappo.
