Just exaclty what is " doing the right thing " ? It is having a council DA approval for your kennels, abiding by the Companion Animals ACT, POCTAA and the code of ethics for which ever associations you may belong ? or is it, keeping your dogs how others " think " you should ? is it having less than the magical number drawn in the sand ? is it only breeding once a year ? Someone needs to define what " doing the right thing is " so that I can make sure that I'm doing it and that myself and the dogs will be fine. Because raising them in the loungeroom isn't going to cut it with council or the RSPCA but it seem OK for the rest of those that judge us

Bitches will also injure pups jumping in and out of the box , if they feel there is a threat. Best to keep the male and other dogs well away and give the bitch a chance to settle in and get on with the job. Give it a couple of weeks. It usually takes my girls two weeks or so before they will allow the others to investigate the box. They are usually happy for the rest of the house dogs, to sit on the lounge or look through the pen but that's about it.

This is my favourite line. I've been getting that a lot lately, but there's just no getting through that many of the so called " ethical " breeders, the one's you's want to buy a well raised pup from, aren't or can't abide by the current legisaltion. The simplist of things like raising pups in your loungeroom is enough to see you not abiding by NSW legislation.
-
But Lilli, it's OK because the RSPCA and the Councils wouldn't do anything about the puppy farmers. Their actions are excused, as they are just speaking up for the animals, who can't speak for themselves. The same as it's OK to steal a dog if you think it's being neglected or you find it wandering the streets in less than idea condition.

I Need A Bowl For A Messy Eater....

Try a "puppy flying saucer dish " The food will push up into the middle and back into his mouth. You'd need the large http://www.thevetshed.com.au/buy/puppy-saucer-pan-stainless-steel-28cm-11-inch/PUPPYSP28? EA Pets Providore have a better photo http://www.petsprovidore.com.au/Puppy-Dish-Flying-Saucer-Stainless-Steel.html -
Thank your lucky stars that he is that way. Although if pushed he may well react. He will almost certainly react if such situations keep happening to him and when he does, it's not going to be pretty.

How sad you feel like that or think that others feel that way. Never fear, if you make the shortlist or heaven forbid win the group, they'll say exactly the same anyway

1. I'd looked around for ages for a pup 2. I was already a Canine Council member, when I started my search. I knew I wanted to show and joined up, so I could demonstrate to the breeder that I was serious 3. I started out with a male, as that was what the breeder was prepared to sell me and she thought he was an obvious choice for the ring and showed potential 4. I already owned 2 ANKC registered dogs, both were desexed pets.
-
If you are going to insist that pups are desexed at 6 months, save yourself the trouble of a contract and desex them before they leave. There's no difference between desexing at 8-10 weeks and 6 months, as the dogs have not finished growing at maturing at 6 months anyway.

Are u offering lol dunno how they'd go on a long haired and nicely blow dried dog LOL

Advice Needed For Trimming Dogs Nails
WreckitWhippet replied to Huntia's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've found that for those dogs that have the very thick long nails, with the quicks very close to the ends, if you take a little off the top of the nail on an angle, then the quick recedes. I've done this with a few dogs, one that was very overgrown and it's worked well. -
It's actually easier to have a large farm set up and breed according to the law, then it is to be a small time ANKC registered breeder. The farm ticks all the boxes in terms of kennels, size, drainage etc, they will mass vaccinate once a year, provide and individual feed bowl etc Those that "really " care and do what they think is best for their animals, might want to raise the pups in the house, choose a different vaccination schedule or not vaccinate at all after a certain age and make choices that aren't strictly in keeping with the madnatory codes.

The solution lies in having all breeders regardless of what they breed or how many out in the open where they are easily monitored and stop banging drums to get things happening that will never happen. All this does is ensure they do all they can to remain hidden in fear they get targeted. Agreed.. People also need to stop and seperate the issues of " breeders " and " pound dogs". They are not one in the same and simply saying that by ceasing all "puppy farming" and " BYBing" it will see an end to dogs in pounds, is not true. Edit to fix the quoting that stuffed up

What is " the right thing " Cat ? According to legislation for the keeping and breeding of dogs in NSW, I'm breaking the law by raising a litter in my loungeroom, the RSPCA and council can come at any time and have me for numerous failings, when it comes to keeping the dogs according to law. They are better than well fed, most live in the house, they recieve vet care when needed, are exercised, social and happy and I take a lot of steps to prevent illness/disease etc. According to NSW legislation, I'm no different and I'm not exempt and the laws apply to me, just as they do to " puppy farmers " and BYBers. If you think the ANKC registered breeders are exempt or somehow they will be OK, think again, because everyone is equal under the law and arguing that I'm a Dogs NSW registered breeder is no excuse for not following it.

if they do do that how come this breeder slipped through the cracks and was able to treat her dogs like crap. and yes not denying that, this is what im saying they need to employ for each state body some sort of officer to check if they need to that members are breaching the code rather than just sending letters asking questions. thats what they are doing now in Vic. ANKC not doing that they just advise the state controlling bodies. yes sometimes ANKC breeders do treat dogs like crap and everyone knows has seen with their own eyes and do nothing and just laugh about it at a show. talk amongst themselves but do nothing to help the dogs that are mistreated. been going on for years. where was the ANKC at the round table meeting? reg breeders were obviously represented by DogsVic? im just counting up the 5 organisation that had that round table meeting. APDBA, MDBA, DogsVic, RSPCA who else. whats the use of ANKC when they appear to do nothing and its willy nilly from state to state. i think in other countries its just AKC, UKC and thats it. answerable to them only the message doesn't get filtered or watered down. this is the problem we haven't got any voice, and its not a united voice its all over the place. so we fade into the background. very frustrating when we are not really getting any sort of message out and members have called for a national voice someone that is well known and respected to be our voice but it seems to have fallen on deaf ears, each state has their own and we have a person in Vic but i've never heard or seen this person i have no idea who it is. it needs to be either a vet (public seem to listen to vets) or someone with a bit of charisma that can get our message across. there wasn't enough said about what happened at that round table meeting either. i mean i've searched on the net and found transcripts. but as far as i know, DogsVic didn't say too much about it otherthan what was said at the seminar at the puppy farm meeting i attended. and it was very small. all they said was we are looking after the best intersts of our members and we are one of 5 key organisations advising the government. thats it. anyhow i appear to have made a slight detour from the original subject. Because not everyone agrees with what treating their dogs like crap means. Some people think all dogs should sleep on satin pillows, some people think any dog seen in a pen is being treated like crap. I think any dog in a crate is being treated like crap. If they were really treating their dogs like crap according to POCTAA why havent they been charged ? You hit the nail on the head, we already have the legislation and the means to shut down those who are not abiding by POCTAA, why in the hell do we need a vigilante group saying " dob someone in to us ? We already have the RSPCA, Cops and Councils, whose job it is , to recieve reports and investigate. Since when do we need a group like " Socares" to make third hand complaints ? It just further muddies the water.
-
Just what we need, more vexatious complaints, the general public and those with an axe to grind, being egged on by another "animal rights" org.
-
I don't get what the big deal is, if the dogs that aren't being considered for the group are asked to leave the ring. It leaves just those the judge is seriously interested in. The judge shortlists and then says seeya to the rest, the judge has already " judged" the exhibits in class, so you have your $10 worth and have been locked at. I don't really get the whole, run everything out for the Group and go over everything again, it's hardly necessary but I guess it makes everyone feel special. I much prefer the judges run out those they are really interested in and get it over and done with.

Advice Needed For Trimming Dogs Nails
WreckitWhippet replied to Huntia's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sheer Magic nail clippers are excellent. -
DMA I'm a member of one such recognised body and I can tell you now, we have never been inspected. The ANKC would have no idea what conditions my dogs are kept in, let alone govern them to a " standard" or enforce them. There are no exemptions for me to breed and raise my dogs in the loungeroom and under the law, I should actually be raising them out in Council DA approved kennels, just like the puppy farmers. Please define what a Back Yard Breeder and a Puppy farmer is ?
-
In summer time and in adverse weather conditions, for the most part. common sense will prevail in NSW. Many judges will line up the group, make a short list and retire the rest from the ring. You will get some that will go over the dogs again individually and will send the rest of the group to the shade, whilst waiting their turn. At our Specialites, the Steward will direct everyone into the ring for the initial line up and then excuse everyone from the ring, to find some shade, whilst they wait their turn, in the class.

Actually, you cannot have it one way for puppy farmers and BYBer's. The laws that exist regarding the keeping of dogs, are across the board and the ANKC registered breeders cannot be treated any differently, they are bound by exaclty the same legislation as everyone else. The groups not prepared to disclose who they are and what they do, that's a bit of a joke isn't it, considering they claim to "investigate" puppy farmers and BYBer's, without authority to do so. Perhaps they are another bunch of animal activists ?
-
It's not illegal to breed dogs in your back yard, nor is it illegal to breed them in large numbers. If people believe that dogs are being kept in sub standard conditions and that their health and well being is in jeopardy, then the appropriate people to complain to are the RSPCA and the local council. from the website D and just who is "Socares" and what "authority" do they have to "investigate" ? SoCares could well find themselves on the other end of a legal challenge. ETA: and what will become of the ANKC registered breeders who get caught up in all of this ? Actually we're the ones who issue legal challenges I'd like to know in what capacity and by what authority, the group " investigates" puppy farmers and back yard breeders, because it isn;t illegal to do either in NSW. Unless you do not have the appropriate council approval for your facility. Did you know that the vast majority of ANKC breeders would be considered BYBer's ? and many do not have the facilities that are required to breed a dog according to the law ? Those of us who choose to breed in our homes, could well be caught up in this. Remember you can't have it one way for the puppy farmers/ BYBers and the ANKC breeders. Leave the detective work and the policing to those that have the authority, that being the RSPCA and the Councils.

Vets Reluctant To Certify Dangerous Dogs
WreckitWhippet replied to RottnBullies's topic in In The News
It should really say something to the Govenment of Victoria, but I guess the fact that the AVA isn't prepared to ID a dog on visuals alone, means nothing. It would have been the perfect time for the AVA to stand up and say this is bullshit.
