why not go a Paratak, Drontal or Fido's every three months for worms Use ValuHeart if you need to use heart worm prevention Do you live in an area that has ticks ? Do you have fleas ? If not, then scrap the extra chemcials. If the answer is yes, the Frontline, Advantage or Advantix Using any products that does intestinal worms monthly is over kill, even if you were needing to treat for Hydatid

Saddened by what has happened, speechless but certainly not surprised. -
Adding Another Bitch To A Two-bitch Household
WreckitWhippet replied to raineth's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yep and they probably won't until one of them ends up seriously injured or dead. Or you could point them in the direction of DOL and revive one of the many threads about what bitches do to one another, when they will no longer tolerate each other. -
Take the puppy away, clean up the whelping area, pack everything away and pretend that nothing has happened. Take her for walks, spend time with her, as you would normally do. Bitches will get over it in their own time. If you are going to try again, do it with the help of a repro specialist

They are a very common problem in my breed too. If they have some movement in them now, they will be fine and will come out on their own. If in another couple of weeks, there's no movement there, then you could have some problems. I've found that roo tails are excellent for getting baby teeth to loosen up.

I'd love to see breeder details recorded on the chip and remain there forever. It would also increase the chances of getting a dog back that you've bred, if it did end up in a pound/shelter and not be claimed by the owner. The best we can do at the moment is chip our dogs with the kennel prefix infront of the name and hope that someone doesn't change the name along the way. ETA: I can see more than one benefit from this idea, not just to establish a more accurate picture of where dogs are coming from.

Aust Farmers Say Rspca Vic Has Swung To The Left
WreckitWhippet replied to Steve's topic in In The News
They have the right idea, join them in large numbers and beat them from the inside. The FFA might just have the numbers and the brains to do it. -
If the current requirement for a dog to be microchipped before sale was extended to include a record of the breeder I think that would make it doable. I've got no worries with that and would welcome such a move. I'd like it to go one step further and that every "breeder" be recorded on the chip papers of every puppy bred. I'd like to see a break down of "ANKC" registered, "working dog " registered, BYBer and other breeders, each year. I think on the whole, the ANKC registered breeders and the associated breed rescues are very good at cleaning up after their own.

Does Anybody Know Ozentries Really Really Well
WreckitWhippet replied to GoldenWei's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yep it's easily done You fill out the first part where you enter or prefill the dogs name, details, class etc. Then once you've entered all the dogs and confirmed, the next page is where you will put in your details, make payment and get a catalogue etc If you have used ozentries before, you can put in your membership number and your address details will come up, if not type it in and it will remember you for next time. It won't impact on the breeder doing future entries, as they will put their number in. -
Staffords on the whole do not do well with a lot of grain, fillers, colours and preservatives in their diet. Take a look at what you are feeding. It could also be a contact allergy but the best place to start with an itchy SBT is the diet.

Rules On Showing Bitches In Whelp?
WreckitWhippet replied to Libertybrook's topic in Breeders Community
I thought NSW was 6 weeks onwards. I haven't seen any changes and have always shown mine until 5 or so weeks -
All good except, we can't actually whelp them in the house now. I wouldn't choose to whelp and raise pups in kennels, but there are breeders that do so and they produde the highest quality of pups, the kennels are immaculate and the dogs recieve the love and care they need. Either way we're screwed

Colour / Pattern / Markings - Importance?
WreckitWhippet replied to Aziah's topic in General Dog Discussion
Lucky you Jokes aside, the general publics desire for non-standard rare colours, often serves only to fuel those who breed for colour, are out for a quick $$$. For those " breeders" , the rest comes a piss poor second best, if even considered at all. -
Colour / Pattern / Markings - Importance?
WreckitWhippet replied to Aziah's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've edied my OP to advise that I'm not talking about show dogs (whilst that's important to me as a breeder and exhibitor - it's not as a pet owner). I'd still respond in the same way. I pick my pets based on confromation and temperament and colour is again way down the list. I'm not interested in owning a "rare" pet that is a non standard colour either. Conformation determines the health and longevity of a pet. -
Colour / Pattern / Markings - Importance?
WreckitWhippet replied to Aziah's topic in General Dog Discussion
Colour is important to me but only so far as the breed standard is concerned. I have colour preferences, like everyone does, there are some things I like more than others. I would not have a blue, black and tan or liver SBT, regardless of how good the rest of it was. In breeds, like the Whippet, where anything goes, colour is the last thing on my mind. -
If you really want action, where this dog is concerned, write a letter of complaint to council and mention the words " duty of care ". I can guarantee you;ll get some action that way

I and many others, don't feel comfortable desexing puppies prior to leaving for their new homes. There's ample documentation as to why not Sigh - I get so tired of this - in some breeds - especially large breeds - it is not feasible/advisable/responsible to spey/neuter at 8 weeks....for those with breeds where it is safe - great...for those of us who don't have that luxury pls stop implying we are irresponsible for not doing so.... I can understand how you feel and rightly so but for those breeders who are putting in place desexing contracts that state " desexing at 6 months " , there is no difference between doing it at 6 months or 8 weeks. The benefits of delaying desexing, don't come into play that early. Desexing upon maturity , is altogether different to desexing at 8 weeks or 6 months

How can you seriously come onto a public forum and advocate for people to break the law and believe thats O.K.? Surely you know in the dog world that people will accuse you of all manner of things and its not O.K. to just run riot and have no regard for the law in the name of some cause. Tell me about it. I;ve had the Council, RSPCA and the cops at my house, over a vexatious complaint. Thankfully I did not have any puppies at the time, as they would have been in the house.
-
If only it were that simple. It's not just a matter of being able to look after the dogs , in terms of food, water and shelter. The ANKC breeders are subject to the same requirements under the law, as the puppy farmers are and that means DA approvals, no raising litters in your loungeroom etc.
-
If these kind of tactics are acceptable perhpas its time some rescue orgs were raided and if we find one thats crook use it to push for laws for all rescue. Ive a couple of photos right now taken legitimately which should kick it off. But it's OK Steve, those doing the right thing, will have nothing to fear.
-
I can guarantee you that 99% of non exhibitors who watch a show, have NO idea what they are watching, what gets awarded, non awarded or dismissed from the ring. They are just there to look at the dogs.
-
Once again it's back to the same old, same old. Once you mention Pit Bulls, you;ve lost the vast majority of people to begin with. I thought this time around, there was going to be a different approach and that maybe people would have learnt from the past and the failures

Depending on which state, the breeder may also have up to 18 months to register the litter.
