The poor bugger. When he's finished the AB's start him on protexin or you can use natural yogurt. You need to start from the inside. Was he desexed recently as well ? Stress from teething, stress from surgery, stress from having a GA, plus whatever he's been through in his short life, growing rapidly, it's no wonder he's succumb to the mites Yeah, he was desexed about 6wks ago I think. Before he came to me. I've been giving him natural yoghurt most days. Where do you get Protexin? Wait until he's done with the AB's and then give him the yogurt, it will do the same thing as the protexin anyway in terms of gut flora . So no need to spend extra money on it.

Council Officers Are Being Threatened By Dog Owners
WreckitWhippet replied to GeckoTree's topic in In The News
What do they seriously expect, that dogs owners with dogs that have not been involved in any incidents, are simply going to hand over their family pets, to be destroyed ? I'd fight too, as once they have your dog, you're up shit creek and it would be destroyed before you could get your lawyer onto it -
But, it's too late for your list now I've gone down the injections route? You could always opt to use Advocate for a couple of months. It's still a chemical but it's a much less aggressive approach, rather than going straight to what would be a last resort.

Something that is not on my list, that I forget to mention, is that we also give them weekly shots of a B complex.

Nope, it's not like he's having a course of chemo or something like that, it's just a chemical being injected into the body. How bad is the pup ? is it localised and limited to his head ?

It's something that I find really frustrating , as it's very common in the SBT's and the Amstaffs. I think that owners often panic and the vets response is, let's get rid of it quickly, when the truth is, you can ride out most cases. It often gets worse before it gets better but unless the dog has developed itching and a secondary infection, it's not as bad as it seems. I can't for the life think of why vets do not start with the less aggressive form of treaments.

If you caught it early, then you could have treated him less naturally or less aggressively. Most times the demodex will simply resolve itself by boosting the immune system. You could give him board certified aloe juice morning and night, keep him on an all natural diet but it's pretty poitnless once you;ve gone down the road of injecting him with Ivermectin or Dectomax. I'll drag up the list of options , I just need to find it again ETA: the list

My comment must have made it through the first part then, as the comments box was still available.

Is it just me being blind, or has the option to comment on the article gone pooof ? I know it was there earlier , as I made comment.

I took a bit of a different approach and asked the Herald Sun to investigate the other side of the story.

Help Please .... Hematoma On Dogs Ear
WreckitWhippet replied to 4paws4me's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
What she said. The vet has tried draining it once and now it's time for surgery. -
That's pretty much what happens here I've made my own now, using polar fleece and squeakers. I plait the fleece and plait the squeakers into it and then tie the plaits on big knots. I've had one of those that's lasted for a while.

Billabong Creek and the PMs Pooch on one side, V's Debra Tranter/Animal activisits on the other. It should make for an interesting couple of weeks. What a BIG FAILURE and a slap in the face for the Oscars Law folk.

How Does Anyone Ever Actually Catch A Lost Dog?
WreckitWhippet replied to Thelms's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've caught them by diving on them ( only the smaller dogs ), I managed to get a Sheltie that no one else could catch that way. Naturally it wanted to bite but I had the dog by the scruff and it ended well. I've sat down and talked to myself and waited for them to come to me. I've walked up to them and popped a lead on, also done the open the car door and whistle and had them get in. The one that was the hardest to catch was an Italian Greyhound that was doing laps of the street and laps around me. Obviously excited and happy to play but a bit timid. That one required playing with it, buy dragging things along the ground and running around. I got smart and ran away from it and it could't chase after me quick enough. Her owners were shocked that I caught her. I try and round them up into someone's yard if possible. Front yards that are fenced are especially good. -
Police won't go around and take possession.

How Do I Find Out About A Possible Puppy Farm In My Area?
WreckitWhippet replied to Terujo's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think it's only chipping that is mandatory. They can be sold as young as you like and unvaccinated. ETA: I would be very happy to be corrected on that one. I haven't read up on the legislation for a while I thought it was the law for many years that it is illegal to sell a puppy before 8 weeks old in a pet shop. This is from DogsNSW website re: pure bred dogs 6. A Member shall not sell or otherwise transfer from that Member's care any puppy under eight (8) weeks of age, thus allowing for vaccination which must be given at six (6) weeks of age, and for the necessary ten (10) to fourteen (14) days for the vaccine to take effect. Given away is another matter. My son was given his pup at 5 weeks 5 days old back in 2000. Pet shops are supposed to hang onto them until 8 weeks of age Dogs NSW breeders are bound by the code of ethics, as are members of other associations The BYBer's and the puppy farmers, can do as they please. -
Go to the DLG website and print off the C3A form ( change of owner details ) for your friend, so she can ask the person that left the dog with her, to sign it.

check the going rate for board in the area, it's more likely to be around $16 a day. Add to that any medical expenses, the cost of worming and flea treatment.

WreckitWhippet replied to Dju's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Not as a one of. If he vomited bile every day, then this can idicate more serious issues but in this case, it's more likely to be related to the comfortis and having an empty stomach. -

Holy **%%%!! Don't you own a shotgun Steve Yep matter of fact I do but seriously how far does a breeder have to go and what do they have to put up with because someone says its how to determine whether they are puppy farming? Ive had peope who just decided to walk in and ask to see my dogs right in the middle of a family bar be que celebrating one of my kids engagements - you know dont let em know you're coming so they cant hide the bad stuff attitude. people who tell me they wil be here at 10 but arrive at 8 to "catch me out " - no concept of what it means to be a mother and the need to feed kids and dress them and have time for a shower or clean my teeth first thing in the morning but just in case I keep my puppies in shit get there early so she doesnt have time to clean up and you see what its really like. Ive come home from shopping to find people camped in my yard having a picnic waiting for me to return after having had a look around and patting the dogs while they are waiting. How did they find me? easy pay off the bird at the pizza hut and give her my phone number and she will give you my address from where I had a pizza delivered. You too can have this if the RSPCA get their way and in order to breed you have to have your street address listed for all to see. But Steve, those doing the right thing will have nothing to fear , will they ? Just what we need, our street addresses published, so the animal activists can pay us a visit and decide if our dogs and pups require liberating. I've got a couple of dogs that would rip someone a new bumhole, if they tried that crap at my place, but then again, I'll be in trouble for that too. It's a no win situation -

How Do I Find Out About A Possible Puppy Farm In My Area?
WreckitWhippet replied to Terujo's topic in General Dog Discussion
All of these shoots red flags all over at 'Puppy farm'. Registered and responsible breeders rare concentrate on more than one or two breeds at a time, and the HUGE giveaway is nobody at her place. A responsible breeder is all too happy to show off their happy and healthy dogs, parvo on the shoes is not at all an excuse. You could set up a dip tray if you wanted to if you were really concerned about this. And how can she claim concern for parvo if she's selling vaccinated pups? If you have her phone number, PM it to me. I'd love to call her up and ask some questions. *narrows eyes* But from what you've said here, this sounds like a puppy farm all right. I would advise NOT buying from them unless you can go in person and see her dogs. Very suspicious sounding overall. Awesome another witch hunt. Ethical breeding is not defined by a certain number of dogs or breeds. It's certainly not right to condemn a breeder for not allowing people to visit the home and I can well understand why many are saying no these days, given the animal rights activists, do-gooders and those with no freaking idea. If this " breeder" has sold a puppy under 8 weeks and not vaccinated, then it's up to the puppy buyer to lodge a complaint with the relevant RSPCA or the Council. -
Please Tell Me Again Why Do We Breed?
WreckitWhippet replied to Fordogs's topic in Breeders Community
I have written in mine, to call or email me first, unless it's life and death. So if the dog limps, gets itchy, loses some hair etc. Thank dog my puppy people do and we have been able to work through most things. It scares the hell out of me, with some of the things vets come up with and their aggressive treatments of simple things such as sprains, strains and dogs that need a chiro and demodex.
