That didn't happen at our house, our horses were carefully chosen and such things were not tolerated. We sent one bastard to the knackery for lashing out.

Yep, no worries at all in using one. Providing the status of the dog and bitch is known. Everytime we chuck out carriers, we narrow the gene pool. A carrier is just that and there's no harm in breeding from one. Why rule out an otherwise excellent specimen.

Flea/tick Product And Heartworm Product?
WreckitWhippet replied to a topic in General Dog Discussion
It's not just about personal preference but also about the amount and type of chemicals you are prepared to pump into your dog. The suggestion of those two products sounds pretty reasonable. Using a once a month heartworm tablet/chew, rather than 12 months of a chemical ( PHSR ) is a sensible option. If you don't have fleas in your yard, then there's no point in treating for them, it's just an extra chemical. Worm every three months using an all wormer or if you want to further reduce what you put into your dog, you can test for worms and treat accordingly. -
Further Changes To Grand Title
WreckitWhippet replied to Trisven13's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yep... but does it really matter? does it affect you and your dogs? is it that bad that someone keeps giving clubs entries and spending money? you don't have to use the animal in your breeding program if you don't want to or buy a pup with said petrol champion in it's pedigree. If the dog is not worthy then it comes back to the judges to have the gumption to non award, but not worthy in who's eyes? The title of "Grand Champion" should mean something, it should be held by those dogs who are good enough to win groups and in shows, not by those who have owners that will travel for the 6 points at a time. I don't buy the "rare breed " and numerically small arguement, if your dog is good enough, it will win groups and qualify, if the best it can do is a small challenge, then I'm sorry it doesn't deserve the title. -

The Kramar with the deluxe cover may mast a little bit longer than a normal hession bed, but if you want one that is going to last, try a Kuranda.

whats the difference? I dont think that's a koala ... look at the size compared to the carrot? If that is an adult koala that is one giant carrot. The head and coat look wrong too, I reckon it's some giant rodent type creature marketed as something exotic. When you're upset you see what you want to see. Roo tastes good, I doubt Koala would be edible. If it were, I would surely have heard reports from a stupid relative or someone I know eating it. The only thing I've ever heard about them is that they taste disgusting.
-
I can understand eating Roo but Koala, no thanks.

The tablets don't have a taste at all, as you pop them down the throat. It's much easier and more effective than using suspension, that the pups spit out and gag on.

Wwyd - Rescue Dog Vs Pedigree Pup
WreckitWhippet replied to AlanMatic's topic in General Dog Discussion
Why not look around for a pedigree dog from a registered breeder, that is being rehomed. They often come up for sale ( depending on the breed )or are given away. Look for a breeder who raises their pups and has their dogs around livestock and kids, that way you are more likely to get a dog that is going to fit in. If you decide on a pup, then do the same, find a breeder who raises and socialises the pups well and will be there for back up support. -
agreed, we go straight to drontal or paratak at 2 weeks and that includes the toy litters

How Will The Qantas Strike Effect Shows This Weekend?
WreckitWhippet replied to -Megz-'s topic in General Dog Discussion
I guess there will be a few people or dogs stuck around the country. I reckon come Tuesday, there will me some mega pissed off race-goers -
The left ear is going to be a rose ear and there is a chance that the right ear will do the same. You need to pick if you want two rose ears or two button ears and tape and glue them accordingly. You will need to tape and glue for some months, as you're either going to try and crease one ear or break the crease in the other.

Any Opinions On Wahl Show Pro Dog Clippers?
WreckitWhippet replied to Fox Terrible's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Nup and certainly not that model. -
If it's redish-brown, then it's most liekly a dermatitis. It can be caused by licking, walking on wet surfaces and not drying out. It can be related to diet and allergy. I find that clippering the hair out from between the toes and pads works well, as does malaseb diluted 3mls per 100 water , shampoo'd on and then towel dried off. There's no need to rinse it.

I have no sympathy for them at all. It's not a case of " should have " it's a case of you MUST train and restrain your dog full stop. I really feel for the poor innocent dogs and people that are out walking and minding their own business, that are set upon by dogs, owned by the irresponsible.

Breeder Not Happy With My Questions
WreckitWhippet replied to Roova's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'd scrap the formal questions and go with phone calls to each breeder. You'd be surprised what you learn and find out in a phone call and what people will let slip, it works both ways. By all means have your checklist there and tick things off as you go along. -
How Dd You Convince Your Oh To Get Another Dog?

Same... I usually wait until about two hours before they are flying in and then send him to their airport. -
Cavvies Purchased From Registered Breeder-
WreckitWhippet replied to Jodi's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've only had one come back as a puppy, I told the owner that they'd get a refund, when the pup was sold ( to a suitable and approved home ) less costs. As for paying full price for an adult, I don't know about that, I haven't been placed in that position. I have been willing to take back and adult and have done that once, to be rehomed, I'm also all for helping out where I can, if a puppy buyer falls on hard times or their circumstances change. I know my pups are in the most loving of homes that will do just about anything to keep them. -
I'd rather be anal, that unhappy with the service or have a sick or dead dog. Mine are fantastic, as a breeder I'm listened to and we work together to do what's right by my animals. I do have a seperate vet for my race dogs though, as the first vet has a great surgeon but admitts that they lack experience in the day to day care of a track dog. That's no biggie for me , as my track vet is excellent

Cavvies Purchased From Registered Breeder-
WreckitWhippet replied to Jodi's topic in General Dog Discussion
I can see her point, I think sometimes it is made too easy but I have an open door policy at my house and if I bred it or raised it, i will always take it back and help out in any way that I can, rather than see one of mine dumped or rehomed inappropriately. I'm a bit torn, knowing how the dogs I've bred have been raised and lived, to think of them being dropped off at a shelter, even if I was going to collect them. If something did happen to me and I was no longer in a position to take my own back, I do have a back up in place. I'm also committed to helping out a rescue, if they did come across one of mine and I couldn't have the dog back for whatever reason. I'd certainly fund the responsible rehoming of that dog, through an ethical rescue.
