How Long Does The Male Wait Between Matings?
WreckitWhippet replied to Stitch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Solution to the first part is to run them together, watch to see the first mating and them let them run together for the duration. Let them have a mating and give them a good feed of red meat and they will be ready to go again , within a matter of hours. You can easily get two matings a day, although one is enough. I've found if you leave the dog and bitch to it, they will mate when they are ready and unless there's some kind of medical/fertility issue, pups will always result. -
Soft Tissue Injury Near Carpal Bones
WreckitWhippet replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If he were one of my Greys, I'd rest him for a couple of days and let him do nothing, including going to the toilet on lead. I'd have it strapped and would laser it every 24 hours and short road walks only. I'd strap the joint with tape, rather than bandage. I have one race dog that has a joint that stays strapped 24/7 and it doesn't appear to bother him ETA: I'm a big fan of rest cures all and so is my muscle man. Time has mended all of my Greyhound injuries and I haven't ever resorted to needles and rarely drugs other than antibiotics -
That happy bounding dog, eventually gets in the middle of my pack and inevitably injuries occur to my own dogs. They always manage to get a lead caught around a leg or pull the wrong way. I;ve had chiro bills from Mr Bouncy. More often than not, Mr Bouncy turns out to be rude or aggressive and starts something with my dogs and I'm left trying to sort it out, while the idiot owner yells out " ohhh he's friendly" I no longer tolerate dogs within kicking distance of my dogs. I tell the owners to call their dog or it will get kicked.

Soft Tissue Injury Near Carpal Bones
WreckitWhippet replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would laser and stap the joint. My Greyhound man would say " onlead only for a month". -
easy, the rude owners of the rude dogs would say it shouldn't be there. My nervous old girl did love her walks but those rude dogs did have the potential to ruin it for her, hence my carrying a riding crop and using it. Off lead area near a river = free for all. ETA I gave up walking this dog cause there were just too many idiots to contend with. She made do with runs with the greyhounds at the slipping track ;) Hang on, does the above mean that you would walk your girl in an off lead area, and if another dog ran up to her to "say hello" (yes rude but with no aggression) you would hit the other dog with the riding crop? I know I would and dogs that run up to mine get the boot.

Mother Locks Herself And Five Children In Dog's Cage
WreckitWhippet replied to Chris the Rebel Wolf's topic in In The News
If she really wanted to keep the dog off the street, she could have purchased a chain and tied the bloody thing up. -
I very much doubt it would work, given that animals can be found for free everywhere and wandering the streets. Being on a registry does nothing to stop sex offenders from reoffending, why would it be any different for those who abuse animals.
-
Treat the dog, flea bomb the house, wash bedding, lime the yard and gardens ( including under the house if you can ) and spay everywhere else with Malaban. Doing it bits and pieces will not get rid of them and treating the dog alone is not enough.

Have you just vacc'd and chipped them ?

Coolies or Koolies ? Using dogs from pounds isnt that uncommon in breeds where they still have open stud books - theoretically you would be able to do that with any breed in the UK too where dogs only have to pass a photo ID to be allowed into the registry Well the "Coolie" folk weren't doing it but the "Koolie" folk certainly were. Not just a dog of unknown origin but a "rescue" to boot. I would have said the bitch was more likely a Kelpie than a Koolie but each to their own , if they are desperate enough to decieve themselves and others. Hard to follow isnt it? No not really LOL If I was buying a "Coolie" I'd be looking for a "Coolie " breeder

Raised Bumpy Rash On Staffy Pup
WreckitWhippet replied to NOCTRL's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'd agree with that. I see plenty of "staffy's" with skin issues, but they are mostly that, the generic brindle mutt, the wonderful colour blue or they are poorly bred. The well bred "stafford" is far less likely to have such issues -
Raised Bumpy Rash On Staffy Pup
WreckitWhippet replied to NOCTRL's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I know a number of ethical breeders who would argue strenuously about this accusation OP - glad it's nothing major, suggest you do some research about immune systems and how to support them. Gotta love those blanket statements -
Would You Take A Class In Reading Dog Body Language?
WreckitWhippet replied to corvus's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thank dog, someone finally said it. -
Forget about what's written on any dry food packets, it's just a guide. Go by how your pup looks. You will constantly be adjusting the amounts you feed, as your pup has growth spurts. Your pup could go to two meals a day, make one raw and one dry. There's no need to mix anything with his dry, as you said he's getting through it at night. He's obviously getting more than he needs.

I can understand why people get so worked up about it. I felt like punching an irresponsible dog owner in the head on Friday after one of my race dogs was attacked in the street.

18 Years Old And Dumped, Poor Little Bugger
WreckitWhippet replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
They've naturally assumed that he's dumped, unloved, unwanted, along with his age. But then again it wouldn't be much of a story if it was " old dog found on the side of the road " -
I use one on one of my dogs. It's a silver one and it came from Prestige. I'd need to dog it out to find the measurements but it's quite a thick one.

I hope she just turns out to be small and not ill. When pups are very small and thin looking, I'd be having her heart checked as soon as she's big enough, as there's every chance she has a serious heart murmur. Sometimes they are just small but often it's an indication of a more serious issue such as the heart, liver , digestive system.

Do You Cut Your Dogs Nails?
WreckitWhippet replied to aussielover's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I do my own dogs, if and when they need it. I'm also a groomer and do them as a matter of routine. I also cut nails on dogs that are not being groomed and we do a lot of those each week, in our pet supplies store. You;d be amazed at the number of people who do not know how to do it, are scared of doing it and would pay some $32 at the vets to do it for them. We charge a lot less than what the vets do and we see lots of dogs each week. -
Question About French Bulldog Pricing
WreckitWhippet replied to Chris the Rebel Wolf's topic in General Dog Discussion
They have always been a fairly expensive breed, compared to others but basically, if you want one, you'll pay for it, that's how it goes. They are worth every cent of the $3000 and more. Once you've had one, you'll see why they are so special, unique and worth evry penny. -
I have no problems with her docking her pups and fully support any experienced breeder who chooses to do so. What I do object too, is the false advertising and think she should have been slapped with a ten grand fine for misreprsentation.

Further Changes To Grand Title
WreckitWhippet replied to Trisven13's topic in General Dog Discussion
what ? those little shows held on week days, where all the Judges rock up ? I also don't buy the line of it's the handler not the dog. If a dog is good enough it will win groups, full stop.
