Nope impossible ETA: the words " throw back " more often than not refer to characteristics of ancestors. For example the pups were a throw back of the Grandsire or the line might has produced a particualr type or colour for generations and then an odd one out pops up.

Grand Champions & (new Title) Supreme Champions
WreckitWhippet replied to SwaY's topic in General Dog Discussion
So with a breed like mine (Basset Fauve De Bretagne) where there are currently less than 10 being shown reasonably regularly between Townsville and Melbourne our challenges shouldn't count UNTIL we compete against others of our breed? I've travelled for competition and LOVE competition (even when my girls lose) but at the moment unless I travel the only competition my girls get is each other. ETA or should they count only when they also win a class in group? Or only when they win group? There IS no perfect answer to any of these problems. No matter which way the ANKC goes people are going to be pissed off. Don't worry Trisven, do what I did and breed your own competition Not all of us live near the showing centres or have the money or time to go chasing competition. Particularly when there is no competiton within cooee to chase. ETA as for getting a 25 point Challenge would have to move overseas to have any hope of that. 25 pointers also come in the form of Best In Group and any dog that is good enough, is capable of winning one, be it rare breed, popular breed, one of or one of 50 entered on the day -
Grand Champions & (new Title) Supreme Champions
WreckitWhippet replied to SwaY's topic in General Dog Discussion
don't you think that is a bit rude to some of the GR Ch that got their title under the old (new) system. Not the dogs fault or the handlers that they won under the rules of the day. They can't have all been undeserving surely There's nothing to differentiate those who achieved their Grands with the BIG, BIS and CC requirements, from those who merely racked up the points, having beaten nothing or never won a group. I'd never bothered to put a grand on a dog, as I couldn't see the point before the changes. I could however see the title was no longer hollow, when a dog had to at least prove that it could win the big CC's, BIG or a BIS to earn the title. Now it's reverted back to simply racking up the points, it's again meaningless. -
I would suggest Black dog too. Depending on the size of the head, you might get one of the Sighthound collars to slip over, or you could try the training collar.

Grand Champions & (new Title) Supreme Champions
WreckitWhippet replied to SwaY's topic in General Dog Discussion
I liked the tweaked system of dogs requiring BIG's or a BIS or the 25 point CC's. The Grand has reverted back to the cheap chase for points, it was before. Bring on the Supreme, at least the dogs awarded with that one, will have had to beat something along the way to get there. I feel sorry for those who worked their arses off, to achieve a Grand under the revised system, their great achievement will now be lumped back in with those who were merely good enough not to get non awarded along the way, were prepared to travel and pay for the petrol. -
Suggestions For Living With A Destructive Bull Breed Pup
WreckitWhippet replied to ruthless's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'd build a dog run that is big enough to chuck the dog and toys in, for when they aren't home. Destructive dogs are also a danger to themselves and are best locked up when unsupervised, so they are not felling trees, ripping fence palings off, digging up water pipes and generally trashing the place. -
Yep they are fine. Whatever you feed it needs to be on consumable bone, you could also try lamb flap, carcass, lamb necks ( not the rosettes ), salmon heads and rabbit
-
Yep, it's shame the breed pages had to be flooded with all of those blue's. At least potential puppy buyers might stand half a chance of coming across someone who actually knows what they are doing and are committed to the breed, not the $$$

I've seen lots of dogs where they go bald in the areas it's applied.

Dog Attacks Leap From Three To 18 In Three Months
WreckitWhippet replied to Teebs's topic in In The News
Yes and no. It's more likely that since mandatory reporting by councils has come into place and all councils have now been audited, there has been a sharp jump in the last couple of years. Watch the stats for the next couple and see where they head. -
Great Range Of Weatherbeeta Dog Coats Priced To Clear..

50% off them in Bathurst at Fish & Sons -
I have no problems with it and wish some owners would make it their first resort, rather than their last. If the dogs exercise and companionship needs are being met, then I have no issues with it at all. It's not cruel, it's a simple op, Owners are more than happy to desex to prevent unwanted puppies and no mess, so why not debark to prevent unwanted noise.

One's that go zapp work the best.

Specialty for me, although I like my dogs to excel in both

Kennels And Vets In Canberra/queanbeyan?
WreckitWhippet replied to KitKat's topic in General Dog Discussion
A word of warning when it comes to boarding kennels in the area, go and have a look at the kennels and ask to see the daily exercise areas. There is one big kennel that will leave your dog standing in it's own poo and wee and will hose out around it daily for the duration of it's stay. You have to pay to have your dog taken out for play and exercise, but they don't tell you that. -

Do You Still Vaccinate An Old Dog?
WreckitWhippet replied to Mum to Emma's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Been there and done that, dogs ranged from 17 months to 9 years and all were fine. I would titre a dog every year or three if it was required for an obedience or sports clubs though. -
Do You Still Vaccinate An Old Dog?
WreckitWhippet replied to Mum to Emma's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
yep about then , every now and then I might give a dog another one at 6 or so but now they pretty much get 2 pup vaccs and a booster at 15 months. -
You can use protexin or yogurt after the AB's are done. Give it a few days and then start.

Picking German Shepherd Puppy From Litter.
WreckitWhippet replied to NewGsdOwner's topic in General Dog Discussion
The OP wants to know about looking for pigment and colour. Look for black nails, and the darkest pigment you can find around the lips and eyes. Avoid those with any areas of pink and go for the pups that are already filled in. Masks will already be showing, as will black in the coat. A pup/dog with dark eyes , will give the impression of a darker face. At six weeks it's a little harder to look at eyes, but select the darkest eyes you can. The breeder has already stated that it can be difficult. I think they best you can do, once you are happy with the temperament, is to choose the darkest pup and cross your fingers. -
I've got like 15 here at the moment and he's great with them. It's taken a while to get him up to speed on the feeding and routine but he's there now and I can go away for a weekendand he can keep the race dogs fed and fit and the rest of the team all in one piece.

Limited To Main Register
WreckitWhippet replied to Pretty Miss Emma's topic in General Dog Discussion
If the dog was bred in NSW, it can now be transferred between the registers once at any age, providing the breeder agrees -
You have my full support. I would love to see those experienced breeders able to dock again but I cannot see that happening any time soon. I do however think there is a chance that the current petition in NSW, calling for vets to be able to dock again at birth, getting support and possibly being successful. I will NEVER own another dog, of a traditionally docked breed, unless it has been done. I've held numerous day old litters, while they have been docked by an experienced breeder, she had it over and done with in a flash, no mess, no screaming and pups were straight back on the bitch to suckle
