  1. From the online grooming supplies. Our work stock comes from one of our regular suppliers.
  2. Wouldn't the opposite apply to dogs though? I would want my dogs to be very comfortable with strangers approaching them in case they ever get out. I wouldn't want them to panic and attack someone or run away. I want my dogs to be indifferent to strange people and dogs and not to see any real value in them. They can certainly be called and caught if need be and won't bite but they do not seek out the company of others, outside of the family or those welcomed into our home.
  3. Up the exercise and cut back her food, each time she comes into season. Either that or put her on Ethylestrenol or testoprop and stop her cycling. Testoprop is probably an easier one to manage. You can have injections monthly but from experience with Greys, there are less mood swings if done every two weeks. The ethylestrenol is given either as a daily tablet or a match head size paste. Check with your vet if her condition will allow her body to tolerate either of them
  4. I wouldn't sell one that I didn't have 100% confidence in. After a vet check, I would PTS
  5. tend to agree with you . Getting it checked out to rule out a cancer is a wise move . Absolutely but Ab's for a nose scratch, that's over kill and then some
  6. The picture is hardly one that shows dogs living in disgusting conditions.
  7. Yep and I cannot believe a vet would dish out AB's for something so small and simple. Save the Ab's for when they are really needed.
  8. If you purchase from a registered breeder in NSW or VIC, papers are not optional, it's is mandatory that every puppy from every litter be registered. It is also mandatory that those papers are provided to the purchaser ( not simply copies of parents or pups papers )
  9. some things potential buyers can look for. See ads with the following, run a mile bred specifically for family pets the entire litter is on the main register blue to blue mating claim the pup is a pied when it's simply a black brindle with a white chest and possibly socks the non blue pups in a litter are heavily discounted (meaning they are sold closer to the going rate for an SBT pup) "carry the blue genes" "carry the blue pied gene" parents are in excess of 20kgs some 25kg's or more and it's promoted as a good thing "english staffy" blue makes a perfect show dog none of the pups are line bred and that's promoted as a plus when you can clearly see patches of hair missing in puppy pics (or any pics) when they can't spell "conformation" generations of blue big bitch with a massive head blue has a black nose when all they can talk about from a potential litter is the perfect colour they might produce when the majority of what they say about their adult dogs, consists of it's coat colour and "personality" "has an excellent pedigree" with not a CH, CD, ET or any other title to be seen big chunky bitch with a head like a boy
  10. I was going to guess within the month LOL If she starts acting a little funny, jumps at her own shaddow, acts like she's been flogged and behaves out of the norm, it's another indication that they are coming in
  11. You don't walk upto and put your hands all over or jump in the front seat of someone's new car. You don't walk up to someone with a new born baby, ask for a cuddle and take it out of their hands regardless of what the mother/father says. You don't go into a play ground and start playing with other people's children. So why do people consider it acceptable to do it with a dog ?
  12. Broulee is further south than Tomakin but has a great beach that runs to the south. That's where we take the dogs. A few minutes from Moruya and a quick drive back up to Batemans Bay
  13. That pretty much sums it up for me too.
  14. Unfortunately you do get them. We had one that I threatened with reporting to RSPCA if we didn't see it at least 4 times a year. First time it came in so matted that until we actually clipped towards the infected area (besides the filthy coat and the stench!!) you could not tell exactly what was underneath, so straight on to the phone to owner and told him we were taking it over to the vet at his expense, it was cleaned out, irrigated and antibiotics prescribed. Owner didn't even realise the condition his dog was in, too busy with work etc etc blah blah blah, just came home and gave the poor thing some food and that was about it, once a year clip off for summer with no bathing or grooming between visits. He has been consistent in bringing it in now and although it is always matted it isn't much worse than others we see. At least he took on board what we said and is trying to a point, he could of just ignored and never come back. We could of gone ahead and reported him but RSPCA wouldn't do anything, they would just say he is doing the right thing now as he has brought it to be groomed. Seen another that was so matted that it couldn't walk properly, turned out it had a length of wire matted into its coat between its hind legs, so it was basically being hobbled. I've half clipped off dogs, found something that required vet treatment and called the owners to collect the dog half done. I tell them to bring the dog back when it's been seen to by a vet. I've learnt that if you finish the job, many of them will come back next time, having not seen a vet at all. Grass seeds in a vulva were enough to make me puke this year. I've not puked on the job before but that one was horendous but I guess if you have an owner that doesn't brush you, it's unlikely they get close enough to inspect or smell their dog. I had one with an eye infection so bad last yesr, I couldn't clip it's face. Let alone remove the massive stinking matts, caused by the discharge. I'm retiring
  15. I get them all the time " I don't show him or anything, so it doesn't matter how short it is" I get a laugh out of it every time when it's a cross bred
  16. I've had the same experiences from people, when I won't let my puppy's or dogs interact and play with theirs. I don't do the typical meet and greet as many dogs and people as you can with your puppy. I control what, where and how they interact with people and other animals. It's worked brilliantly for me and I basically have dogs that are focused on me and are rather indifferent to strangers and other dogs. I too like to pat and goo over other people's baby pups but I certainly wouldn;t get offened if they said no, a simple no is enough for me and there's no need for them to explain why.
  17. Me too. I'm sick of seeing dogs so fat they can't stand on the table, for the reasonable amount of time it takes to clip them off and scissor. I do a Poodle that is so fat, I can no longer get the foot blade between it's toes, it's now just clipped straight off and scissored around the feet.
  18. Actually the body has been clipped fine. In the previous photo, there were tufts of hair all over the place, under the arm pits etc, the ears were not trimmed neatly.
  19. Was one of the back legs all matted where the bracelets are ? I'm not sure I would have taken off all four. Maybe trimmed the two back one's down quite a way, to get them to match if I had to take some out of the matted one and maybe shortened the front one's a bit, so it looked less obvious and it would grow back more evenly.
  20. So, does this mean that a groomer can decide the end result, if it is what they want walking out their door? Yep, I won't let a dog leave with something that I am unhappy with full stop. An example of this was a Newfie with quite a matted rear end , chest and belly, the owner didn't want the whole dog clipped, just the matted bits ( which took a #10 ) , there was no way on earth I was letting a dog leave my salon looking like that and let that be an advertisement for my work. I use my judgement and skills to make a dog look good and send home work I'm proud of
  21. I'm going to steal your flea funeral idea. I charge and advise clients but that sign is a classic.
  22. Arcane, I pretty much have what you have on that sign. Mine also includes bits about making your dogs grooming experience as comfrtable as possible and basically putting the dogs needs first, in particular when it comes to brushing out matted dogs, the elderly dog or those with injuries, patella probs etc. Couple that, with talking to the owners, you't think it would sink in but often it doesn't.
