  1. I don;t name mine after anyone. I just give them the plainest, possibly dumbest human name I can come up with. With the exception of Pavlova, who was named Pav, because of how many I would have to bake, because I didn't tell the OH he was coming.
  2. Time to put Victoria's legislation to good use and prosecute the breeder.
  3. It's not just QLD that suffers from inaction on the part of Councils. I've been told before that I would need to write a letter in regards to a roaming dog. Surely they have got to be bloody kidding, I'm calling and telling you it's out now, it stalks pedestrians and dogs being walked.
  4. Can someone tell me which pound handles the Dulwich Hill NSW area ? It's urgent please
  5. No, but it's a chance to engage with the public and dispel some myths about their breeds. Given that the SBT is one of the most popular dogs in the country, there's not a lot to dispel when it comes to them and the papered Amstaff is going from strenght to strength.
  6. I don't get what the uproar is all about. Both the ANKC registered Staffords and Amstaffs in NSW are protected by the deal done by Dogs NSW with the Government of the time prior to the introduction of BLS. Being at the pet expo isn't going to make any difference to either breed surving in NSW.
  7. My last foster dog satisfied his prey drive by working his way through some 20 odd chooks and 3 cats ( they are all dead ). So you really need to address the issue now or rehome her. My door is always open for wayward Whippets, it's my specialty.
  8. My only criticism, is that I would have liked to have seen a lot less weight on quite a few of the dogs.
  9. agreed check the mouth a couple of times a day. The Stafford pups frequently break theirs and I've had no issues over the years with them.
  10. Once again, there's a few issues mixed up and lumped in the same basket and they are never going to solve them , as they need to be addressed individually. Perhaps they could start with this A new system of microchip traceability to ensure breeders are known and work from there. If they know where the dogs and cats are coming from, then perhaps they can put some measures in place to help reduce the number of unwanted animals.
  11. Is there anyone coming from the Newcastle area on Sunday to Oberon, that would be willing to bring a Whippet with them please. I'm more than happy to contribute to your fuel costs for the trip. Cheers :)
  12. No getting on the benches ( that means you Sessy ), no getting in the garbage bin ( SESSY ), leave me the hell alone when I'm in the toilet ( yes SESSY, that applies to you ) I have a rule about no getting on the kitchen table but once again, it's one that Sessy chooses to ignore, especially when we have visitors and they fail to acknowledge her in a way she sees fit. Ignore her and she jumps on the table.
  13. I'd like to know if the dams of the two Westminster dogs were merle or another colour. If they weren't merle, then I don't see what the issue is, as the merle to merle mating was on the sires side, to produce a dog that would always through merle. Now if that merle to merle dog , is put to another coloured bitch and no hearing and sight problems result, then what is the issue.
  14. COI doesn't worry me in the least. I have a had a dog that was higher than that, a lovely example of the breed. Are the two Collies entered deaf and blind ? If not, then there's nothing to talk about. Now the big question is, do I believe that link and the obvious smear campaign.
  15. I have Sighthounds and SBT's that would dispose of a cat in an instant in our yards. One of mine has killed a cat before, we put it's body in the bin and said no more about it. If a cat comes into our yard and is killed, there's not much I can do about that. You are right about not being able to watch them 24/7 but we have fences that keep our dogs in and that's all we can do.
  16. The easiest way for the Bendigo man to solve the cat problems in his yard, would be to trap them and take them to the pound. We did this a couple of years ago and we've not had a cat in our yard, winding up the dogs since. It took a couple of weeks to catch the offenders but I've not seen one of them since.
  17. Hmmm I think the stats point to it being both safer to pat and eat the Pit Bull
  18. Drop my dogs leash and let it run if it's one of my smaller one's. Stand my ground with the bigger dogs, charge the oncoming dog and make some serious noise, lay the boot in and keep sinking it in and drop my bigger dogs leads so they have a fighting chance. I've been through a couple of serious attacks and dogs that meant business, my dogs all have the scars to prove it but they are still alive and to date, I've not been bitten. Walking the dogs is no longer enjoyable, I wear my steel caps and carry a weapon. I'm no longer tolerating dogs that charge.
  19. I dare say they will not get away without a very large fine, the young lady will also be able to sue for damages.
  20. Yes any breed assessor within the state and any temp tester that is approved can help them out. The owners of a dog who are subject to an NOI can choose any breed assessor or temp tester off the list , providing the owner will travel or the assessor agrees to do the same. The DLG will not give out the BA's and TT's if there has been no NOI issued, as the BA's and TT's are not considered valid. For a council officer, you really should have a better undersyanding of the act and the process
  21. So what, they kill their own goats and pigs for meat, it's no big deal, people on properties all over the country do it. I don't know many people on the land who don't eat their own. Onselling it has a seperate set of issues but I guess with the price of meat, people are willing to source their meat from places other than butchers and supermarkets and I can hardly blame them. Animal cruelty issues, chained dogs, dirty cages, poor body condition etc, are of a concern.
  22. I'm going to assume that this dog was chipped prior to 2005, given the age of the dog and as such, it falls under this part of the ACT and that because the transition period has expired, then no NOI need be issued as it is automatically declared
  23. You are still missing the point, the dog is aleady deemed to be of a resticted breed, because of the microchip. The owner is not fighting a "dangerous dog " charge, the dog has been declared restricted and they are two different things, although if a complaint has been made about fence fighting/charging etc, then it's a double whammy. The owner needs to be aware of excactly what council is going to seize the dog for. They can walk in at any time and seize the dog if it's chipped as a Pitt Bull or a cross and it doesn't matter how high the fences are. If the owner wants to save the dog, the very least they need to do at this stage is build a child proof encloser, that meets the requirements, they need to have the dog on lead and muzzled whenever it's out of the enclosure, have a dangerous dog collar on it and make sure they follow the rules. The rangers can't seize a restricted breed, unless they are not adhering to the requirements. Once council takes the dog, they can destroy it straight away and if it is registered as a Pitt Bull, council can do that at any time, regardless of the owner being there or not. The owner needs to be aware of that
