  1. Bring back the lovely ladies and their coffee van and tell me where to sign
  2. Or you just can't be bothered writing the whole name out... I'm not going to type out American staffordshire terrier every time I talk about my dogs. AmStaffy is much easier ;) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk You don't have to, that is the "Amstaff" :)
  3. I wouldn't take advice from anyone that calls an SBT a " staffy". Staffy stands for generic brindle pound mutt and any self respecting breed fancier, refers to the SBT as a "Stafford"
  4. Perhaps some here would be better off putting their energy into actually rescuing, not having a go at someone over a photo. It's a picture of some people smiling and holding up a dead cat, so what. The dog has been trained to do a job and is doing it well. The man trains many dogs to perform many tasks and regardless of what people think of him, he's very good at what he does. I'm no Steve or PIAA fan, but I can certainly understand his happiness and possibly even feeling elated, when it comes to the dogs achievements. I'd be smiling too.
  5. Something else for owners to consider, if you do inject your dog, once you put that chemical in, there's no getting it back out. You are going to have to ride out any adverse reactions. If you are going to use a heartworm preventative, at least the monthly chews/tablets only remain in the system for a short amount of time. They kill off the potential heartworm at a certain stage in the lifecycle for a few days each month.
  6. Perhaps if the owners had been law abiding in the first place annd Butch had been registered, then this would not have happened.
  7. Haven't you also tried to introduce rabbit and other new foods recently ?
  8. I don't have any problems, typing what I mean and the message being understood.
  9. If that's a Stafford cross I'll eat my hat. She's one of those mega mix, pigging mixes gone wrong. Most likely a Greyhound , cross RR, cross, that was then bred to some mutt down the street. There is nothing Stafford about her, not her eyes, ears or expression. She's very "hound" like
  10. Mine sleep on the furniture and eat first, yet they'd turn themselves inside out and jump through hoops to please me. The way to train your Stafford with success, is to build a strong bond and find out what makes them tick. The whole notion of dogs on furniture and dominance is out dated and it's rather "bark busters". Thankfully some of us have moved on and have a better understanding of our animals
  11. Same here. I use miminal chemicals on the dogs, we are in cool climate country and the risk of heartworm is small. The heart worn injection is not a "vaccination" , it's an injection of a chemical.
  12. We advise to do it when you are expecting some rain, or while it's raining. Use a rubber glove and sprinkle it around. If you have a fine fertiliser dispenser you can do it that way ( it's easier ). If no rain is expected, then lightly hose it in. Some dogs can have reactions to it, most are fine. Check which plants are sensitive in your garden and avoid burning those.
  13. Lime your grass, gardens, under houses etc. Spray other areas with malaban or permoxin, including the bedding and kennels Flea bomb the house Most people treat their dogs but not the environment.
  14. what's the point of drawing a magical line in the sand ? some people think a back to back is wrong, others know that it can be done and is not detrimental to a bitch when they are in excellent health. What should the magical number be ? Lord knows the canine councils have already done it and it doesn't stop someone from breeding a litter from an unhealthy bitch.
  15. There is no such thing as a "dangerous dog breed ". If you use your dog to hunt, other than small vermin, then it is automatically classed as dangerous and must be housed as such. You can still breed dogs for hunting, it's only when you've used them to do so that they become "dangerous"
  16. It's not uncommon and often those who are the only vendor are also major sponsors of the shows. Alls fair in love, war and business.
  17. Absolutely the actions were appropriate. The Beagle owner was unable to render any assistance to his dog. Lucky for the Beagle owner the dog was submissive , had it not have been it would probably have been killed. The officer was well within their rights to shoot the dog. If dogs were on my property, terrorising one of my dogs, they would certainly be disposed of.
  18. Isolate your Stafford and you are just asking for behavioural issues. The dogs that spend plenty of time in the house and with their owners, are not usually the problem barkers, destructo-mutts, fence fighters and escape artists.
  19. Allowing your SBT on your lounge or bed and even letting it sleep with you, does not automatically undermine your authority. Allowing it to sleep on the bed, does not make them any easier or harder to train. Having them close to you can actually be very beneficial and strengthen your bond. The better the bond you have with your Stafford, the easier life is with them. If you don;t want your SBT to bark at night then either let it sleep inside in a crate or where ever or provide a warm dry, fenced off kennel area, where there is nothing to look at and you can be certain that there's nothing going to wake the dog during the night. If you have roaming cats, possums or live in a high traffic or noisy neighbourhood, then inside is the best place.
  20. RepelX on the dogs once or twice a day and a quick spray on their bedding. Keep all cement areas cleaned and bleached. Use fly traps Spray walls around doors and areas where the flies like to be , with a very diluted mixture of water and eucalyptus oil.
  21. of course it is, if we don;t advertise there and promote our breed, how is anyone supposed to find us.
  22. Swimmers aren't "paralised". No pup should be thrown in the bin, if it was unwanted or believed to be not worth raising due to a genetic condition, illness or injury then it should have been PTS. With a little bit of work on the part of the breeder, swimmer puppies can be raised, if the breeder wants to and that's entirely a breeder decision I don't buy into the bull crap, OTT stories such as this one and it's certainly no miracle.
  23. Ditch the cans when you;ve used it up and replace it with a large chicken wing for breakfast or two small ones and measure about about 1 cup of dry for dinner and see how his weight goes. If you want to use up your cans, measure out about 1/2 to 2/3 of a cup of dry and put a heaped tablespoon of can on it. Judge your pup by his body condition and forget about measuring based on his weight. You'll find as he's going through the big growth spurts that he will consume and need more food and you will be constantly adjusting the amounts from week to week and as you introduce new foods into the diet
  24. Nope and if you want to reduce calories as they slow down, then change to a lower fat formula. The sernior formulas are a con, they are supposed to offer supplements like glucosamine and chondroitin but the reailty is that none of them come even close to the daily dose required for joint support.
