Working As A Groomer For A Vet
WreckitWhippet replied to rocshani's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'd never do it again. Limited control over the appointments and if you didn't get to see and assess the dog first hand you could find yourself stuck with a matted to the skin 4 hours job and over booked. You can also find yourself limited by their opening hours. -
and this is gorgeous.

Mine are all hidden away in their own cupboard and it's such as shame. I love this idea

Rescue/foster Dog Health Issue
WreckitWhippet replied to parrotpea's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Another dog that is destined to bounce, because it's been adopted out with an issue that needed to be fixed prior to adoption, be it medical or behavioural. -
The standard calls for a low set tail. Sloping toplines as babies are very common but they don't end up like that as adults.
-
Number one . I prefer the depth of chest and the pro sternum. I'm trying to ignore the colours and think that possibly there's a litter more upper arm. Prefer the pastern and the feet on the white. Would like to move the back leg slightly but also think there's a acceptable turn of stifle. Also much prefer the lower tail set on number one. The first also looks cleaner and maybe not as leathery as the second.

Keep the pups on. Cabbage leaves, they really do work to soften up the lumps and infection. Gently massage the hard areas to break it down and express the puss. I treat my girls the same way I treated myself and it worked. ETA: Put the cabbage leave on and bandage them to her with vetwrap and leave them on overnight. Start the massage in the morning and keep at it ever couple of hours.

She may have had a silent season in which case I'd be counting anout 7-8 months between seasons and expecting to see her in again in another 3 months or so. Excuse the math as I started to do it and then went and cooked dinner. Have you had her to a chiro ? I'm not sure where you live but I'd be finding a renowned Greyhound chiro and have her checked over

Rufus&coco Super Skin & Coat = Livamol
WreckitWhippet replied to espinay2's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I wouldn;t be paying $29 for 2 kg's of Livamol either. Not when you can buy 10kg bags for $49 and a 2kg for $15 -
What Breed Do You Love To Watch In The Ring...
WreckitWhippet replied to SwaY's topic in General Dog Discussion
It used to be Borzoi and I liked them so much I got one and joined them. I enjoy watching most of the Gundog ring, with the exception of the Clumber, Sussex and Field Spaniels. I find the group as a whole to be the most evenly matched and excluding the three mentioned before, they all have lovely flowing movement and are very showie. The others are a bit "blaahhh" -
Serious Car Accident Involving Racing Greys And Trainers
WreckitWhippet replied to OSoSwift's topic in In The News
That's really sad, we watched the meet last night and back a few. -
I don't , won't and never will but sadly there are ANKC Registered Breeders who do. Not only do they sell to local pet shops, they also export entire litters overseas.
-
I wouldn;t be worried about them at all. Ignore the vet when it comes to the pups mouth and also desexing. ETA: If the vet was thinking that the canines were inverted, removing the baby teeth is not going to make any difference to how the adult teeth come through. If it was adult teeth that were inverted and touching the roof of the mouth, then if need be they can be ground down. There's a hell of a lot of dogs out there with inverted canines and other bite issues that live long and happy lives without intervention.

If the over inflated prices of their merchandise wasn't enough to turn you off, the sale of animals should

Those were my first thoughts too.

I buy my human grade chicken wings, necks and carcass from a wholesale food outlet that sells to the public. I use Food services Central that are local to me but there'd have to be something like that around Bowral or even Campbletown

and the first time wasn't warning enough to take precautions so that it didn't happen again

The last lot of food that I got was off, the delivery service became unreliable and I called it quits. Never again

Coroner Calls For Laws On Breeding Restricted Breeds
WreckitWhippet replied to Alyosha's topic in In The News
Yes cos that's totally doable and enforceable. If the resources aren't there to stop just the APBT being bred how are they supposed to police ALL cross breeds?! And exactly what do you do with the cross breeds that are inevitably born? Kill them? Seize them? Then we won't have to worry about playing spot the Pitbull, you'll either own an ANKC recognised breed or FCI breed or not have a dog at all. -

Ban the breding of all cross breds and dogs that aren't registered with the ANKC or "working" clubs and be done with it . -
Best Ways To Build Muscle
WreckitWhippet replied to Esky the husky's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Genetics plays a huge role and some times no matter what you do, you are not going to build mucle on a dog, you can make it leaner and fitter. Some tips would be to do road work on different surfaces at least three times a week, mine do 1 hour three nights a week. They have a free run a few times a week and this involves running around the paddocks like lunatics. Swimming once a week is great. Use MusclePro after the dogs have exercised, you'll see a big difference in a couple of weeks -
It's best to have the dogs eyes checked by an Opthamologist , depending on your location it's about $150 to have the eyes checked and cleared for Entropian and Distichiasis.
-
Rule out Distichiasis and then take a more holistic approach to the dog. SBT's can be susceptible to allergy and skin conditions and the sypmtoms can be more problematic at certain times during the year. Take a good look at the dogs diet, try to remove all grains and preservatives from the diet. Think about the chemicals that you put on and in the dog. If you don't have fleas and are not in a heart worm area, then those chemicals are not necessary. Minimise the number of vaccinations you give.

Puppy Food Recommendations (that Won't Make Her Poop So Much)
WreckitWhippet replied to a topic in Puppy Chat
I used to raise babies on puppy food, but it's not necessary and certainly not required if you are feeding additional items that have a balanced cal/phos ratio such as chicken pieces or minced carcass and other consuamble bone. I'd have no concerns at all raising a puppy on Canidae ALS or any other quality dry. I've raised litters on Royal Canin adult, black hawk adult, Pro Plan and also Advance, without any worries and I think compared to previous litters they looked super, grew steadily and I have had no issues with feet or knuckling ETA: not a toy breed bu my current baby is eating Pro Plan and consumable meaty bones
