Coroner Calls For Laws On Breeding Restricted Breeds
WreckitWhippet replied to Alyosha's topic in In The News
Absolutely, BSL is here to stay for the foreseable future. So why not at least try and have some amendments put in place, especially in Victoria that allow suspect dogs to be temperament tested and at least give some of the "nice" family pets an option other than life in a cage or seizure and certain death. Asking for amendments to legislation, doesn't mean that you agree with it but there's more than one way to skin a cat . -
take some towels and wipes and a bottle of water. Most pups travel well but those that don't really need cleaning up at the other end

Tackling back yard breeding and BSL are two completely different things, although it's commonly the BYB dogs that end up the victims. Cosmolo, it would be a bitter pill and one the general public is not likely to swallow if you start calling for temp tests across the board. They and the pollies may however be more accepting of TT's for suspected restricted dogs or crosses. -

Time to face some facts, then general public on the whole and politicians are not anti-BSL, infact they welcome legisaltion that makes them feel safer. regardless of it not being effective when it comes to providing a safer community and reducing bite stats. I for one do not support BSL but the reality is that it's not going away any time soon, there is not about to be an overnight back flip in VIC (certainly hasn't happened in NSW in the 7 or 8 years since we've had it ). A great many of the anti-bsl supporters look like red necks and are not taken seriously because of the way that they have attempted to tackle the problem and comments made. It certainly does not help the cause to make references to Nazi Germany, Hitler, Jews, Holocauts and the like. Protests to date have been futile. What can be done in the meantime to lessen the destruction of pets and innocent dogs ? My suggestion is that the powers that be in VIC are pushed to adopt the NSW model. I know there's going to be people screaming blue murder at this suggestion but it does offer a way out, via breed assessment and temp testing, which is a hell of a lot more than the VIC legislation has going for it at the moment. Want to keep your nice cross bred dogs safe ? then fight to have a reliable method of temperament testing included in the VIC laws. ETA: seeking a better option in the short term, makes more sense than continuing to jump up and down and not be heard -

Go for a walk up an average suburban street, with a clip board in hand and ask the question " should Pit Bulls and Pit Bull crosses be banned " and see what you come up with. I think you'll find that the average visitor to DOL and the average person in the street will give you the answer of yes try asking the question " should certain breeds of dogs be banned " and see what response you get. -

It exists in the form of the "associate register" for any desexed mutt, mongrel, non papered look-a-like and dogs of unknown parentage There's also the "sporting register" which allows for the "working" dogs such as those Kelpies registered with WKC, to be listed on the register, remain entire and compete in agility, herding etc. The purpose of the KC's is to maintain the "Pedigree" dog register, not to provide "novelty events" for dogs that are not recognised in any way -

Unpleasant Dog Park Experience.

I'm a little more tolerant of off leash dogs if I'm on my own but if my dogs are with me, I'll sink the boot in, chuck rocks or whatever and ask questions later. -
They don't but at the same time there's no harm in them having some, providing they can tolerate it. My Greys have a milk powder made up , combined with electrolytes after racing or a trial, it's just more palatable to them, than having a drink of water and provides some additional calories and calcium until they can be taken home and fed

It's common for those stuck in the dark ages and feeding on the cheap. The top trainers now have moved on and are feeding combo's of premium dry and meat.

Under the skin, same place as a vacc or chip and we use the Troy Vit B Complex injection. Vit B can sting so you need to make sure it's at room temp (keep cool for storage) but it's only 0.5-1ml

Yes and there has been very little if any shift in this attitude since BSL was introduced. -

Holly, if you are certain they are Whippets I'd be happy to take them, however I am in NSW and they would need to be flown over. -
If you are worried about her doing them in the yard, then take her somewhere that is fenced and flat and let her go for it there. I'm not a fan of dog parks, but we have a large leash free in our town and that's where I let my pups run wild, when there isn't anyone else there.

We use b-complex injections. Behave pastes, vitamin tablets and the like are ok but we've found the best results for nervous dogs, poor travellers etc are to be had with an injection. We give them two weeks apart and then one two days before travel.

and especially so if you want her to have a normal cycle and produce pups

Apologies, I'd actually misread steamboat's post and thought their pup was not registered but the parents were. You are probably right on this point, does anyone know of any test cases involving a staff? to my knowledge there has been not been a case involving a pedigree and registered Staffordshire Bull Terrier. I do know of one Ranger who wanted to play hard ball in NSW but was quickly shut down with ANKC papers and chip. -

I think the chances of you losing an appeal or not having a council see sense upon presentation of your ANKC papers and corresponding chip is next to zero. Once again stop the scare mongering. Own a cross bred that fits the type and ticks the boxes and you are up poo creek -
cut the grains, increase the meat on consumable bone the diet sounds horendous

Go and see someone like Neil Barnsley anyway, at least you then know that he's in alignment and Neil will be able to point out any spots that are giving him trouble.
