Dog Ate A Blue Tongue Lizard - Is He At Risk?
WreckitWhippet replied to Latoya's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Nope he'll be fine, even if it was already dead and rotting, dogs can usually tolerate that kind of stuff. Mine eat them every time they catch them. -
This is our last goodbye... Sarah Stafford was also allowed to do as Sarah pleased
-
Me too. We sometimes share ice creams. Nothing wrong with sharing. This one's not mine but I promised her an icecream and an icecream we did have There may have been some face licking involved too, but the poor girl had waited several years to be allowed to lick me LOL
-
Sessy does as Sessy pleases, she's allowed to lick me, eat of the fork, clean out a bowl and share food if I let her.
-
I'm still baking mine but I'll know in a few weeks if it's a boy or a girl

thats not a code of ethics its a code of practice and every breeder in the state already has to comply with it. The only way it can be policed [they say] is via a complaint so they want every one who wants to breed a litter to be inspected annually to ensure they are within that code of practice - which in effect advantages commercial breeders and encourages those who only wanted to breed a little to breed a lot to get their money back on what they have to spend to comply. meanwhile the back yard breeders and the puppy farmers, continue on their merry way

Dogs NSW have just sold us all up poo creek. You need a DA approval and kennels to breed a litter, it's not legal to have and raise them in your lounge or dining room. Being clean and tidy isn't going to cut it

Best Puppy Kibble For Bitch At 30 Days Gestatipn
WreckitWhippet replied to dogmate's topic in Breeders Community
I feed my girls adult premium dry and raw meaty bones. I don't change the girls over onto puppy food and I raise my pups on adult premium. -
Great question

In the case of the Stafford pups, they were eating and drinking but their mother had not yet weaned them . They'd try and have a drink from anything that moved

8 weeks or older with C3. I chip whenever, sometimes it's done with vaccs, most times before whenever a friend calls by to do them

Skye Terrier Cross?
WreckitWhippet replied to tdierikx's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
A Corgi is a solid working dog. They have substantial bone and substance. He's certainly no Skye cross and there's not an SBT hallmark to be seen. It must be a bit disappointing for some in rescue who feel the need to label every dog and attribute it's features to whatever breed is flavour of the rescue month -
If that were the case, then there's be no point in selecting dogs from parents with working or sporting ability or the ability to race around a track. There's be no point in breeding from dogs that are calm, dependable or even bidable. If what you say is true, then there'd be no need to breed from dogs with drive or "working lines" as you'd be able to make a dog whatever you want it to be. Once you've had close contact with more than a couple of generations of dogs, you can see just how much a sire or even a grandsire can influence a litter.

Forget about encoruaging her to play with unknown dogs and focus on building a greta bond between you and the dog and recall. Take her to formal obedience, there often the opportunity to mingle with other dogs that have a stable temperament The best SBT is an indifferent one , when it comes to other dogs. There's going to come a day when another dog takes exception to yours, she meets a dog that doesn't back down or misreads a dog. When that day comes, it's not going to be pretty. Avoid dog parks and doggy day care.

Could People Think You Have Abused Your Dog?
WreckitWhippet replied to far_kenell_73's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yep, I'm afraid that my Whippets would be mistaken for abuse victims if they ever got out. They will not approach strangers, infact they would act terrified if they were out on the street. Give them a day without food and some weight drop and you'd have people screaming at th3e RSPCA to do something about the poor neglected animals. -
Where did Pav say she wanted the dog to have a terrible death? Dogs rarely die because of a c-section. Really? Well, dear me. Her anti-crossbreed posts elsewhere must have given me that impression. I am anti-cross breed and make no apologies for those that cross breed and breed indiscriminately and produce yet more pound fodder

Staffies With Skin Conditions
WreckitWhippet replied to sam.i.am's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It is highly unlikely to be demodex below the water line. -
It seems your sense of right and wrong has become extremely warped if you're wishing ill on a dog. I wish a c-section on those poor puppy farm bitches too. I'd consider it a kinder option to be discarded early in life, even if it results in death, then to be bred and bred, until you can breed no more. If you saw a dog hit by a car, would you help it or ask for pedigree papers first? I'm probably the person you'd hope would see and stop, given my skills in dog first aid and the assistance I could render.

Staffies With Skin Conditions
WreckitWhippet replied to sam.i.am's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
To start with I'd eliminate as many grains as possible from the diet, along with preservatives, artifical colours etc. If you aren't feeding something like a grain free Canidae, TOTW, Eagle pack etc then I'd be starting with that. Allergy testing can be expensive but if you see a specialist first up, rather then stuffing around with your average vet, then it can be a lot cheaper in the long run. -

Back yard breeders don't learn when things go right. When they go right and the bitch whelps and raises the litter under the house and they have very little to do with it, they sell the pups, make a profit and do it all again. When it smacks the bank balance hard and they require medical intervention that costs them a fortune, then they sit up and take notice. I can guarantee a c-section and the loss of puppies stops them in their tracks. It did for my former clients and their Dally litter. They wanted to show the kids the wonders of having a litter and the joys of life. They were prepared to potentially breed deaf pups and cash in on the "joy of life". They did it despite the warnings of what could happen to their bitch and the got a lesson in life alright.

Rescue Dogs - Clues To Their Lives Before You.
WreckitWhippet replied to Wobbly's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think people read too much into their rescues behaviours. They attribute certain behaviours to neglect, abuse, poor dog ownership by the previous owners or whatever fits their theory on why the rescue acts the way they do. Why not just deal with the behaviour and get on with life, rather than dwelling on the past and what could have and might have happened to the dog -
Or a 12 hour whelping during the night, breech births & a trip to an emergency Vet at 2am to get puppy formula to feed the puppies, because the mother doesn't want to know the puppies she's had, while she is still pushing out the others. Then the 2 hour feeds for the runts of the litter, who are too small to compete with the bigger stronger pups. I would have thought that a good whack to the hip pocket would have been sufficient but what they heck, they can have the lot
