  1. That's what I was thinking, the one's I've come across have been very full on and they are so different from Whippets.
  2. I never run out. I have several 20kg bags of premium in the cupboard at all times and the dog freezer is only allowed to run low if I'm cleaning it out. If I did have to feed them something to get by in an emergency it would be, some meat from our freezer ( hopefully we had some chicken wings )with a whole egg each. Although it wouldn;t be the end of the world if the adults missed a meal.
  3. Just because you've been doing it for years, doesn't mean you do it with a huge amount of success. Hence the sour grapes thread from fixer

  5. Give me a bigger dog that is balanced any day, over something that is 16 inches, with a short upper arm and the lenght of a freight train. I'll even take the lighter eyes, when the rest of the head is what it should be.
  6. Have any Hound people looked at her ? She looks so much like an Ibizan or Pharoah cross
  7. What reasons? Any reason. Age. Illness. Because the owner wants. There is talk they should be eligible for the BoB lineup Good grief. Actually I'd rather see more veterans than neutered. That doesn't really make sense for a conformation show. It doesn't matter why a neutered dog has been neutered they should be eligible to compete for the neutered class because that's the pre-requisite - the fact that it hasn't got a confirmation title to it's name has no bearing on the judges ability to assess it against the standard, why not let them do it then. If it's a poor exhibit of the breed they can non-award, if it's good enough it will get a neuter challenge and some points. I would agree with you that they really shouldn't be lining up against the entire exhibits for BOB though at this point in time although if the concept of neuter really took off, they could certainly look at Best Entire, Best Neuter and then run off for BOB - I just don't think we've reached that point yet. Would you like to include the neuters that I know were neutered because they only had one testicle ?
  8. SBT's and he's full of sour grapes... I'm guessing my dog is one that he's taking a shot at
  9. This entire tread is overkill, you aren't being "sued" , you've just had words with someone who lives near you.
  10. That is horendous, I'd sue the groomer for that. It's the very first rule of grooming... Never leave a dog unattended on a table. On behalf of all of us responsible and caring groomers, I'm so sorry for your loss.
  11. you can use Vytrate, I've used it as recommended by my vet
  12. Qantas made it a BSL issue. Umm no hang on. BSL is "Breed speific legislation" What Qantas has done and they are entitled to is put policies and proceedures in place, for what they think is in the best interests of their business and staff safety. It seems to have become a BSL issue since amstaffs were banned from Qantas. apparently so but the Amstaff is not on the restricted breed list and neither are the Braccy breeds that some airlines refuse to carry but hey let's muddy the waters and the issues

  14. There are some congential conditions that do not show up until puppies are started to be weaned. The pups can process and digest the mothers milk but as soon as you introduce solids, they deteriorate rapidly.
  15. Because it can show how good a pedigree is? What's the point of a "good" pedigree when they are no longer able to contribute to the gene pool ? Because information can still be gathered such as consistent type from the sire. It would help to promote lines and families. But we're not seeing anything new, just recycled champions ETA: neuters should have been left as a sweep stakes. True, at the moment but if the registration system was changed, say... add a registration category where a dog could be shown but have no progeny registered, then breeders would be more likely to give a newbie a start in the showring. It would be a slow process over a few years but something needs to be done to revive the sport. What would be the point of creating yet another "class" when in NSW and I believe VIC you can already endorse the papers " not for breeding" Perfect then, more breeders should be encouraging people to get out there and show and offer those papers. People with their LR dogs who'd like to have a go be encouraged to ask their breeder to upgrade their dogs registrations, if the dog is within the standard. I won;t be selling on mains and I won't be upgrading any dogs or bitches.

  17. Mostly no, as that what I have my own dogs for. I also don't know where those dogs have been and what they've been in contact with. I'm more than happy to pat, kiss and do whatever with dogs that are known to me

  20. It's usually pretty good at mine. I mostly book the first and last appointments of the day to avoid the idiots. The one thing I get pissed about is if I take a pup in and people want to touch it
  21. Personally I think it's just a waste of time, the dogs aren't fertile and can't be bred from but whatever floats someone's boat I guess.
  22. It's natural to have dogs within one breed with variations in features, and natural for some of these variations to be 'exaggerations', but for one of these to actually win at a show sends the wrong message. If they make you shudder, should they be winning? Even if there are only a handful that do? That sends the message to the breeder, and the other breeders involved in the same breed, that those exaggerations are desirable. I think the judges ought to take a long hard look at themselves, and how they are shaping the dogs, and how that is affecting the purebreed community. Their influence, by awarding (and rewarding) certain traits, is why we are having this debate in the first place. I'm sorry but that's a crock of..... the blame lays squarely with the breeder of such animals
  23. 2 dogs and 3 bitches The brindle dog is missing from this pic, he crawled away
  24. I like the Canidea Platinum formula it's 20% protein and 8.5% fat. Sometimes I think you are just better off with a super premium normal dry and padding it out with some grated carrot and veg
  25. Depends on the breed srtandard for me. What I might find acceptable in one breed, I can't stand in another. In my Staffords I like them black brindle with as little brindle and white as possible. In the Whippets, I'm not so fussy, I'm more about the markings than the colour I think that unless a colour does not meet the breed standard, you can usually find a nice dog in any colour and the real killer is "pigment", you need great pigment around the eyes, lips and nose
