  1. Pretty much what I say to them. They don't deserve a second rate animal just because they want a "pet"
  2. The Fauv explosion makes mine look oh so delicate and hardly pregnant. The Whippets do pregnancy with grace and style, I think they refuse to admit they might be having babies
  3. a lot of people will say the dog "won't eat" but it's rarely the case. The dog has snacked and grazed and the food should have been picked up if not finished in a couple of minutes and nothing given to the dog for another 24 hours. I have never seen a dog go more than a few days. Why make eating into such a big deal ? put the food down, walk away and if it's not gone take it away. Hand feeding, standing next to the dog and giving it bits here and there do not assist to develop natural eating habits.
  4. I'm starting to wonder just what we have on board. I was thinking that she didn't look any bigger than last time but she's very big through the rib cage. I'm just going to wait it out and let it be a surprise on the day.
  5. I don't introduce the pups to the dremel until they are about a year old. I use the clippers until then, by that time they have heard the noise a lot and they have seen the others standing on the table having it done. I start the dremel and throw treats on the ground for the others while I do each dog.
  6. Dremel every couple of weeks for the adults and the babies are done once a week from a week old. All dew claws are removed in this household
  7. I have somewhere in my PC the form that councils are required to complete. I believe it's each 1/4 but I've not looked at it for a while.
  8. Not really. Most people are hopeless with identifying breeds and there's plenty of evidence to show such statistics are inherently flawed. This given it's visual "breed ID". You would have thought that with all the new legislation to protect us after the death of Tyra Keune that in NSW there wouldn't be much to report ( I need Mr Rolly Eyes ).
  9. What they fail to take into consideration is the fact that mandatory reporting was introduced across the state. Where "attacks" would have gone reported prior, they are now all required to be reported, regardless. If you look at how "attack" is now defined, that also plays a big part
  10. Try a different protein source, sometimes they might appear fussy but they might want more white or red meat depending on how they are feeling.
  11. Something I find quite astounding is the number of owners and breeders who produce them and then desex the dog and show it in the neuter class. It's been a good way to build up the knowledge base, as most will tell you the reason why the dog is not entire.
  12. Would you use a sire again who had produced it Wreckit? Genuine question, I have no hands-on experience with the problem and no vested interest. Repro vets I have spoken to have been clear it is known now to be a multi-gene problem, but recessive. Both sire and dam must carry it to produce it. Previous thinking that it was just from the dam they reckon is disproved. That would be a no but many people will not talk about it and sometimes it's difficult to make informed choices. I do mark in my book the known combinations that have produced one or none.
  13. You're crazy and I'm very thankful my older bitch did not bring in one of the others
  14. If a ranger suspects that a dog is of a restricted breed or cross and the dog goes unclaimed, Council can euth the dog. Councils do not release dogs back into the community they suspect are restricted breeds or crosses. They are also not required to release any dog they suspect to a rescue or anyone else who jumps up and down about it. Some Councils will allow the release on the provision that the dog is chipped and passes breed assessment. Councils are not required to call in a breed assessor or temp test any suspect dogs, that part of the legislation is the owner option, if they'd prefer that to a court date. Councils are required to rehome as many dogs that are suitable for rehoming as possibly, but that's entirely dependent on their resources, community connections, volunteers and the systems they have in place.
  15. People scream blue murder when a "registered breeder" breeder produces and animal with issues or we supposedly breed to the "extreme" , yet we crap on about how this dog must have a will to live and deserves to be here etc etc. Really it should have been culled at birth. You can dress it up however you like but this dog does not have a good quality of life, neither does the dog with no front legs and that poor Kangaroo was as miserable as all get up.
  16. I wouldn't have let it take it's first breath, the poor thing.
  17. Never had an issues with fat dogs. In my eyes fat dogs are as bad as malnourished dogs, it's a form of cruelty.
  18. Probably does have papers from one of the American "registries" that will register anything and everything.
  19. I don't worm my bitches during whelp, I worm them well before they are mated as part of the usual schedule and with the pups when they are 3 weeks old
  20. I have a major gripe with some kennels and that is "exercise". I know of one large kennel that unless you pay them for "play time" your dog doesn't leave it's kennel. It shits and pisses and is fed for the duration of it's stay in a kennel. They hose off around the dogs, your dog stands on wet concrete until it dries. If you have a problem barker, they look those special one's in a dark bunker so no one can hear it. They can't exercise the dogs, because they simply do not have the number of exercise yards that would be required, they have a handful of yards for a couple of hundred dogs. This same kennel will double up dogs and chuck as many little one's in together as they can. You could of course pay motel prices for a deluxe suite and they'll be happy to show you that one upon inspection. Same kennel was told by owners not to put two bitches together, which of course they did and they girls went at it all night, it was not pretty. My suggestion is , if you are going to board your dog somewhere book a time and ask to see the entire facility and do the math of kennels v yards, it can prove very interesting.
  21. Then you need to do some more training with your dog.
  22. Some people seem to think that not only is an "off leash" area a free for all, but people with dogs on leads shouldn't be there. Being allowed to have your dog off leash is a privilege and with it comes the responsibility of keeping your dog under effective control and that includes not allowing it encroach on others, steal other dogs toys, join family picnics, stalk or charge, run circles around or bark at other owners and their dogs.
  23. I hope that's a miss quote, otherwise than have no idea about the CAA and the minimum holding periods for a dog.
