Keeping the whelping box spotless is the easy bit

Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty ? At best Dogs Vic could suspend the membership pending the outcome.

Got anything other than Animals Australia's say so ? I missed the facebook link

The dribble doesn't deserve a response...

I must be conforming to AR , as I can't find a pic that has poo, filth or blood. I've only got fresh clean looking puppies. My bad
-
I totally agree with the not giving additional whilst in whelp but there is no way I would whelp a Bull Breed litter without it.
-
I go the same whilst whelping & do for the first couple of days and then basically give the bitches frequent powered milk drinks until they are ready to wean.
-
I'm fortunate that my four vets are all local and are all of a farming back ground, they have a huge amount of hands on experience and are very accepting of what I know and what I can do as a breeder before I require their possible intervention. I can pick up whatever necessities I think I need from them prior to any whelping. We have a great relationship, they see me when they need to and are more than happy to discuss situations ( whelping ) on the phone and over the years I've never needed to take a bitch to them ( touch wood ) as all bitches in whelp have had their babies without complications.

I give additional calcium for at least the first few days until the bitch is well settled ( very common with SBT's to require it for at least the first few days ), I then monitor very closely for eclampsia. I wouldn't be listening to any girl at the vets counter and probably not too many vets either, given the willingness to promote dry as the cure all

That drivel wasted a couple of minutes of my life that I won't get back

IF that dog was used for hunting pigs , under the CAA was already considered to be a dangerous and should have been kept in a child proof enclosure. Playing devils advocate here, but had the owner followed the law, this tragedy would not have occurred. If the owner did use that dog for hunting and it can be proven, he should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Having said the above, I believe that the dog probably fits well with the bite stat research, as does the child. Young child under seven, entire male dog , kept chained. Once again the public will learn nothing from this, it will become another dog witch hunt, introduce some more useless legislation.

any reason why he can't be left in the back yard with a bone ?

At What Stage Do You Present To Vet
WreckitWhippet replied to a topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I present at the vet after I have gone to the chiro -
That sounds sensible ..... Whippets and Staffords are notorious escape artists and as much as it pains me, if one comes into care, it doesn't leave. There are so many dogs out there that don't have issues and need help, there's no point wasting precious resources, potentially giving rescue a bad name and breaking the hearts of a new family. I rehomed one that I thought was going to the right place, that being an inner city home with no yard, which meant no fences to jump. This one decided to squeeze through less than 10cm security bars on a window open a fraction and bugger off down a main road. Never again
-
For the sake of adopting families, fence jumpers and escape artists should not be rehomed. It is not fair on the adopting families to put them through it, not matter how well prepared they think they are. I will never rehome a fence jumper again, all fence jumpers and escape artists are given their wings.

that should ring alarm bells

You may also not see skin conditions because of the level of attention you provide to diet and general living conditions.
-
I'd say that's pretty normal. You will need to be careful that she doesn't do herself or someone an injury if she's become more vigil. They can also injury pups if they fly out of the box to investigate.

I've started to wonder about that too. Mine frequently get left over cereal with milk from breakfast, one of my bitches loves a splash of milk in a bowl when I have a coffee. When my bitches whelp I make them egg yolk and powdered milk to drink. Pups certainly don't need the lactose free crap you buy in the supermarket, they seem to tolerate cows and goats milk very well, along with yogurt and cheese.

Please do not use the word "Stafford" and "type" in the same sentence, the word "Stafford" is used by the breed enthusiast when discussing the "Staffordshire Bull Terrier". By all means "Staffy" away, as that's the terms for the generic brindle pound mutt and the "type" without papers. Sorry WIW - but the average Joe isn't going to make the distinction between "Stafford" or "staffy" when one is rushing up to greet them and it scares them, are they? T. Average Joe wouldn't know what a "Stafford" is and I think to use the term in a discussion about bite stats is highly offensive to the breed enthusiasts and condemns the "breed" along with every generic brindle pound mutt. Personally I would like to see no breed listed in rego papers unless you have the ANKC or working registry paperwork to go with it. A "Staffordshire Bull Terrier" is a "Stafford" call the rest whatever you like but "Staffords" they are not

If you haven't seen them both by now, I'd be asking for a refund. A dog at 13 weeks with no testicles is not a breeding prospect and not one that I'd include in my lines, even if they did come down later.

How Do We Go About Changing Perception?
WreckitWhippet replied to Pretty Miss Emma's topic in General Dog Discussion
But they should be and they are, if purchased from a registered breeder who breeds for type, temperament , structure and soundness. The "pedigree dog" is the superior product. If it weren't there would be no dedicated registered breeders who believe in the dogs they produce.
