  1. Hey Jode, it's raining , so I have nothing better to do, than check in on you and Ollie, during the day and see how you are going
  2. Feed her at least two if not three times a day, growing babies do tend to eat a huge amount of food. Go for quality rather than quantity. Choose a good quality dry food, suitable for large/giant breeds ( I'm a sure a breeder with larger dogs could recommend one ) if that's what you would like to feed her. Also she can have chicken necks, wings and carcass ( I would watch her eat it though ), You can also add a little grated cheese, some sardines once a week and I'm sure that others will suggets some alternatives. I would just watch that she doesn't get fat, that is one of the worst things you can do to a baby puppy , it puts stress on growing bones and joints. Keep her weight so that she is just covered on the ribs. It's hard to say an exact amount of food for growing pups, you will have to monitor her weight and you will change the amount you feed her, quite often, depending on her growth spurts
  3. I am still the same with MiMi, mostly when I'm yelling and telling the dogs off. Her name still comes out , along with the others. I got the extra food bowl out, so many times it made me cry. It does get better with time
  4. Why oh why do I vist the bridge I start crying before the pictures are even shown. What a lovely tribute to Sam, he was obviously loved and got to experience plenty of good times and travel during his life with you
  5. Hey Jodie Benny sends his love and hugs to Ollie
  6. Is he feeling any better Jodie? Pack Ollie and yourself in the car and come over here for a day, you can play Pug baby cuddles
  7. I was using the Laserlites silk at work , but found that it took ages to blowdry the dogs It became like trying to blowdry a sponge, I felt like getting the dog and trying to wring it our first. I liked the look of the coat after it was dry, but not the time it added to the drying process.
  8. Treat the inside of the dog first. If mites have been ruled out, then it is quite possible that it's a food allergy or that your Staffy is lacking in the 0mega3's and 6's, zinc , vit e as suggested by others. I would also consider contacting a vet or specialist in skin allergies and have your dog tested, they can be allergic to certain grass types, wool hessian and the list goes on. Cheers
  9. Maybe it would have been cheaper to take him to the vet and have the vet tell you that Ollie is feeling better, rather than Ollies self diagnosis with the pillow Ollie one, Jodie nil
  10. I forgot to add that C5 first Vacc for a litter is $29 each Microchip for a litter is $27.50 each I'm still lovin him :p
  11. This is my second attempt as the computer just ate the first one C5 $40 the others are less but I get C5's utlrasound $25 ProHeart for 7kg Pug $12.50 Consult $40 Consult on a Saturday ( he doensn't open weekends) plus antibiotics for a Pug with a foot infection $48 I love my vet more and more every day, it's a 20 minute drive to see him, but it's worth it. The Greyhound people use him, so that's good enough for me. Mind you, cheap is not always the best, but in this case it's cheap and I trust him :p
  12. Jodie , it breaks my heart everytime I hear that Ollie is not feeling well. It's such a roller coaster, but he's battled up the mountains so far, so I'm sure he can do it again. His cousin Benny is feeling a bit off today too, he's had two rather nice vomits on the carpet, so he may have gone out in Ollie sympathy. Kisses and hugs for the man with love from all of us
  13. Nylabones are really good, however the Nylabone is a specific brand and there are cheap imitations available. I would only use the genuine article as I have experienced sharp ends from the cheap ones , bleeding mouths and a choking Frenchie. There are also the Dentabones ( Pedigree ) and Greenies. I would check with the vet before giving either as they may continue the irritation. ETA: with the Nylabone, make sure you get the specific size suitable for your dog, if too small they can be ingested or cause a choking hazzard ( been there done that ).
  14. I'm not going to offer any advice re training tips as the others have already offered these. What I did pick up on is that you say throughout your posts that "he knows". I pick up on the frustration that you are feeling , I have been there and done that with a French Bulldog that tested my patients to the limit , with just about every activity we did or command we learnt. Take a step back, take a deep breath and look at it from the dogs point of view. He is obviously eager to be involved ( although he may not involve himself the way you would like ), he wants your attention and once you master what makes him tick and turns on the "will to please" you, there will be no stopping you and this dog. He sounds just like a freinds ex-customs dog ( a Lab ), he nearly drove them insane, but with some patience, expert advice and training, he is now a little gem. Good luck
  15. Reddog, one of mine will do the same. I've never looked at it as being a problem. Apologies for asking in this thread, but K9 does it mean anything???
  16. Treat the inside as suggested .. And rather than bath your dog with shampoo and conditioners ( all shampoos are drying and strip the skin and coat of the much needed oils, regardless of what the bottles say ) rinse the dog in a big bucket of warm water ( just warm ) combined with a tablespoon of liquid glycerine and 1/2 a teaspoon of quality eucalyptus oil. They will smell good , the coats will shine and the scrurf will go. It's what I use on the black brindle Stafford , if I am showing him two weeks in a row and want to keep the natural shine on the coat.
  17. What a beautiful girl, getting your wings is not always a bad thing, she's now a beautiful angel
  18. Sorry to hear about your Mums loss 10 years is a pretty good innings for a Bulldog and I'm sure Winter was a wonderful companion. Sweet dreams Winter
  19. I know it's a little late, but hugs to you Chrissy. He's in a good place. In Pit Heaven, where he can eternally hog the lounge & bed, where the zoomies are fast & furious and every man is your friend With love from our Pit, Stafford and Pugs
  20. I can understand the pom pom bit ;) I'll run and hide now, before the die-hard poodle fans catch up with me ;)
  21. It's quite interesting the number of people who start out insisting that their poodle must have all of its hair ( and that's your choice ;) as the owner ), I really love the look of any of the poodles with the feet face and tail clipped. I have found that once an owner has it done and sees how ;) the dog looks after the F/F/T being done, they love it. I'm not saying that you will change your mind but it might surprise you ;)
  22. I pluck the baby poodles ears from their first visit to the salon, usually at about your boys age. You can get specific powder for ear plucking ( i don't think it's worth it ), i just use a common old antiseptic power, just a small amount, it just helps absorb the wax and grease and get a good grip. As the others have said, just pluck a small amount at a time, have a gentle but firm hold of his head, by placing the hand that you are not using to pluck over the top of his head with, you thumb down near his jaw. This will give you some stability and as you pluck the hair his head will be pulled slightly towards the hand. It shouldn't hurt him, but there are some that will carry on a treat for you. I only ever use fingers, I know others that use tweezers etc, but when you are first starting out, you can do less damage and feel more confident with just your fingers. ;)
  23. Good to hear that Ollie is doing well
  24. A little O.T, but I have put just about everything that I feed to the dogs, as far as treats, in my mouth at some stage. I know I prefer some over others. B.L liver treats taste ok.... Training sessions should be short and sharp, if the dogs can perform the exercise with success a couple of times during the session, then finish on a high and leave it there. You undo all the good work as soon as their attention wanders from you, don't let the fail the set exercise through being tired or a lack of enthusiasm. Two minutes , where there is nothing but success and reward for you dog, is far better than 10 minutes , half of which was performed well and the rest not so good, leaving you feeling frustrated.
  25. Well actually, it comes from the show ring and putting pieces of food in my mouth while I stack the dogs. Having tasted smackos amongst other things. I think that it is very salty. I have also found that the dogs drink a lot when I use it and that often they don;t think it's a reward at all, they have been known to spit it out. One of their other favourites is the homebrand or coles chicken roll. That's also more desirable to the human as well
