Why Is He Such A Fussy Eater
WreckitWhippet replied to daccydog's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Don't worry, L.M feeds her dogs a little "hypocritical kibble " for breakfast. With regards to the O.P, fussy dogs are made not born. No dog will starve itself, if you put them out a bowl of dry, raw or a combination and give them 10 or 15 minutes ( as suggested ) to eat and then take it away, offer no snacks until the next meal time. The fussy eating won't last long. Time for some tough love, it doesn't matter what you choose to feed you dog, but set some rules about eating and stick to them. -

Some days mine are horendous, the pups aren't too bad, but I get up at about 2.30-3am for a toilet stop each night. Then they sleep in untill we are ready to get up. The older dogs change with the seasons, Benson is so bad that come summer, he is getting up at 4.45 too, some days I could kill him

If it were me buying the puppy, that sounds alarm bells to me and I personally would walk away. I would be getting a thorough vet check and ask for a guarantee that the puppy is healthy. I would also be questioning what the breeder would do, if it was found that the puppy was ill or had a problem. There are always outgoing and quiet puppies in a litter. There are some that spend the first 6 months if their life, doing nothing but eating and sleeping ( i bred one of those ) and there are others that go non stop, from the second they are whelped.

Even when he is sick he is still up for kisses... Yes, but I may not be able to stand the smell of him farting . Might just have to wave at him from a distance. Luci can just look through the window , point and smile at the doggie ;) He will be fine No smells and no being sick.

Hey Jodie It sounds good I hope he's still feeling that way, when we come over for a kiss and cuddle with Ollie.

There is an English import that produces fluffy longer coats. It can be a problem. Having said that, it's a fault in the coat, an issue with the mouth, topline, angulation etc would be more of a problem. Using a good shampoo, bathing a few days before a show, allowing the coat to settle, don't blow dry and there are a few other tips. Talk to the breeder and seek their advice. You can also P.M me, if I can help you out at all.

Is he a Staffordshire Bull Terrier that you intend on showing or just a pet? Some lines carry slightly longer coats or is not from a registered breeder he could be a cross of some sort , hence the longer coat. The coat should be short, there is not much you can do about it. If perparing for the show ring you can handstrip away some of the longer coat from the neck, withers and shoulders. If he's a pet , I wouldn't be worried about it at all.

Does Anyone Field Trial ?
WreckitWhippet replied to WreckitWhippet's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I don't get to actually shoot anything, the NSW trials are P.C , these days. Carry a gun around a fire blanks. Heaven help the world, if I had a gun in my hands these days. I haven't even shot a rabbit for 14 years, I can't imagine I'd be able to get near a flying bird, let alone bring it down. All birds are safe when Phil and I are around -
Hi Jodie Hugs for the man, as always

Does Anyone Field Trial ?
WreckitWhippet replied to WreckitWhippet's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Thanks to those who responded in a positive manner ;) We are off on our first training day in October ( much warmer than what it is now ). We have been given a few little exercises to do and will head off to the farm and get him out in the swamp so he can begin to flush some birds There is one person that competes, who lives pretty close to me and most of the training grounds are within 2 hours drive, so it's all looking good for me and Phil-Me Pointer. I'm very excited -

Cool send me all the details you have ,, please A friend uses his GSP's as working Gundogs, but I really don't feel like following him around in the freezing cold and snow at Yetholme. I was hoping that the F.T's would be somewhat more civilised -
Does Anyone Field Trial ?
WreckitWhippet replied to WreckitWhippet's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I do nothing but Dog :p And I LURV it  I start the day with putting them all out into the sunshine, cleaning the kennels, feeding the babies and it's goes on from there. I wouldn't trade it for the world. I just love the sunny days we are getting at the moment. It makes the show training and playing outside, so much nicer. I don't have more than I can cope with and the decision to take on the Gundog was not made in an instant. I had 6 weeks to think about it and back out if I wanted to. I am looking forward to doing some other things with him, not just showing. Time for the babies lunch -

Cool  I have no idea about this one, eyes and ears are open , have dog and I'm willing to learn -
I have my very first Gundog ( Pointer ) and I'm interested in Field Trials. Is there anyone that can help me ? I'm in NSW but would love to chat with anyone who has an interest and would be very interested in learning from someone that is in NSW. He's only a baby , but I guess that you need to start young. Cheers

I'm so sorry to hear that he's gone My Mimi was there waiting at the gate to keep him company. Even though he's no longer with you, his spirit will always be there

He is in Heaven and he won't be alone. Many of our friends are there to keeo him company

I used to take my babies to a PP in Canberra and also go there as part of my business and talk about grooming on one of the nights. This clinic was up to it's one hundred and fifth PP graduation, at the last one I attended. That's over 800 puppies and no puppy contracted parvo from that PP. I personally socialise mine from 8 weeks, it's my own choice and I have not had a puppy catch a disease. There has been plenty of debate in the past about the need for early socialisation. I feel that babies are best getting out there and getting to know the world , from an early age, others do not.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss There are far too many dogs leaving for the bridge and way too soon for your man
-
Then don't, as clearly you have not researched the American Pit Bull Terrier at all. I'd suggest something soft, white and fluffy that will sit on the lounge and yap, if anyone strange comes near the house, that's all you need. A dog only need to tell you that a stranger is about.

I knew Cordy would have something to say , having experienced enough cases to last a lifetime

Nothing but stainless here,I'm so bad that mine are all the same size, brand and shape i do have smaller baby bowls and the water bowls are all the same too. Mine go in the sink after every meal, they are covered in boiling water and washing liquid, then washed, rinsed, dried and put away in the walk in pantry ( that's where my food bins are as well ). I collect all of my bowls after dinner and they never use a dirty one man, do i have some issues. I get the same comments when people visit me, although my mother will now wash the dog bowls when she comes to stay

I can't find my info that says just how few parts per million are required for the transmission of the virus, but it is a tiny, tiny , almost microscopic amount that need to be on the bottom of a shoe. From memory it's about thirty thousand, parts per million, in faecal matter, that is enough to allow transmission. I wish I could find the info now, I think your vet is crazy and should be shot for making such statements. I'll get back to you, when I can find the site that states this, I have it in a book but that's no good as I don't have a scanner at home.
