  1. Pretty much I say recall is you come when I request it. I expect the Stafford's to turn on a dime and come back, I've been a little more forgiving with the Sighthounds as I've learnt that they don't put the brakes on and turn around, they have a rather large turning circle if running flat out and then they come back. If not running flat out, they will spin on the spot and recall.
  2. The RSPCA does the same here. take your dogs and ruin you emotionally and financially. I've seen what they've done to ordinary people. All creatures great and small, my arse. Animals Australia also has a lot to answer for. Add to that list Oscars Law, lead activist, trespasser and thief
  3. Steam mop, big front loader and dryer. I don't use many chemicals in the kennels, I put a scoop of washing powder in a bucket of boiling water and pour that on each kennel and leave for 15 minutes and then hose out. All dog bowls and water buckets go in the dish washer. I use eucalyptus oil with the steam mop for a fresh smell.
  4. Doesn't do a thing to stop the attacks that occur by "known" dogs. Children especially, are often bitten in the family home or that or a friend or relative by a known dog. Secure dogs and yards and we won't have to worry about additional legislation for "menacing" dogs. There's already a law that says you keep your dog in your own yard and when it's out it's on a leash, unless it's a designated leash free area. Surely there's enough there
  5. I got a Bull Terrier cross and then did not finish the survey as I hate dogs with light eyes and certainly do judge dogs by those.
  6. Hell no, I'm going for the noisiest bugger I can find... Actually that's why I don't yet have one, as mine will be a couple of grand investment. No one will have to put up with it ringside, as it's just for camping, not for blow drying
  7. Maybe look for someone that has a kennel set up and boards on a part time basis. I look after quite a few dogs that the owners won't leave in kennels for various reasons. I've had them both short and long terms and there are quite a few people that provide such services, it's just not advertised and you need to ask around.
  8. I'm with her but failing that a genny will be my next big purchase
  9. Give the Blackhawk a miss, it left my dogs under muscled and looking like crap, to me that screams poor protein source. If your puppy is doing well on the Proplan and than I'd leave it be and if you are going to change than either of your two other selections.
  10. Tris can you make them stay looking like that ? LOL Kind of Terrier, meets Dogue meets Beagle
  11. NSW is 10 metres from a play ground
  12. My reasoning would be that for the majority of breeds that originally were utility/working breeds, ear and tail docking were performed for preventative reasons as you mentioned. But the work and activities etc that justified that prevention is no longer as prevalent, so there is no longer any need for docking for most dogs and the procedures are just cosmetic. But dew claw removal is preventing the risk of the kind of injuries that some dogs can obviously still get, just from getting them caught on things, etc. So it's not like the preventative removal was ever linked to particular activities that the dogs no longer really do. 13. I have a difference on my pups, simply because you are buying a dog or bitch outright and you are buying those lines, if you are purchasing for breeding.
  14. They settled very quickly and they are very active and can find a boob from anywhere in the box. Fingers crossed they are going to be a repeat of the last dream litter and I'll be sleeping in my own bed tonight.
  15. I have done many like this .... and I certainly don't feel I was being inhumane A vaccination often elicits a pain reaction ... what should we do there ? We put a collar on a new puppy and it freezes in fear /confusion .... Is that humane? Front dewclaws do have their place in active/working dogs, for sure . For indoor pets/therapy/assistance dogs though , I would prefer to see them removed . The hardest part about it is waiting for them to stop feeding, so you aren't being cruel and taking them off the bitch. They are gone less than a minute and there can't be too much cruelty involved as my bitches barely raise an eyelid. They sit on my lap in full sight of their mother and are back on the boob in less than a minute. I certainly don't "rip" a joint out.
  16. what's the rush to remove it ? When we glue, we hope that it's going to hold for at least a couple of weeks. Speak to your breeder first
  17. I'd much rather them gone, then have them caught on something. Whippets do not traditionally "ice skate" so I don't see any comparison there. ETA: It is not cutting off a "thumb" and there is no cruelty involved. I did my pups last night about 2 hours after birth. I sat in the bottom of the box and took them from the bitch one at a time. There was no blood and no screaming babies. If any one doubts that, feel free to pop over next litter and I can show people how it's done.
  18. Congrats to everyone. Tris do you have another ready to pop ?
  19. We welcomed a brood of 6 to the world this afternoon. Three dogs and three bitches and they took three hours exactly to delivery. Off to do dew claws now and let the brood drink and grow
  20. Perhaps we now have a definition  Got dogs = has puppy farm
  21. I'm not exactly sure what is wrong with those kennels and yards. The pens were cemented or paved, they had decent sleeping areas, they were clean, there wasn't crap laying every where and those dogs were not covered in pee stains, they had not been laying in their own filth and without putting my hands on them, they did appear to be groomed. They looked like happy healthy dogs.
  22. what else are Council going to do with the animal activists jumping up and down and creaming blue murder.
  23. I've got a bitch due to whelp any minute now. I'll keep the camera handy tonight and see how much mess and mayhem there really is
