  1. That's so sad, to spend the time at the pound and have the chance at a loving forever home, only to have this happen. Sweet dreams little girl
  2. Peibe, I was just thinking that time spent, does not equal the love given and returned. Those with us for the shortest time, can touch us in ways we would never imagine. Run free old girl, I'm sure your last dreams, were as sweet as Sarah's
  3. Hahhhhhh advice from the expert here I can train a puppy honestly Has it suddenly turned cold or started to rain in the last few days ? I had a bitch that you go inside if it rained, she preferred not to get her feet wet and if it was cold she didn't like that either. Has she been desexed ? She could be coming into season and bitches can start all sorts of odd behaviour. other than that, I'll leave it up to the experts ( my lifetime of dogs, is not enough in my case, lets hope you have more luck )
  4. What you talkin about, I've travelled with her twice now for a total of 4 days and haven't had any pee problems from her. You must be doing something wrong Even 10 week old Wayne and 8 week old Valerie have more idea than he does I used to complain about pissin Pugs, but they are easy in comparision to this fellow. I can't remember who mentioned a crate. He actually enjoys his crate and jumps in there with enthusiasm, he knows which one is his. Wonderful dog, if you take away the piddles
  5. aarrrggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, he just doesn't get it. You can catch him in the act but he just doesn't care. He's not peeing too frequently, it's just every pee that he does is either on the floor or in the crate. He knows what poo means and he tells you when he wants to go outside. He just can't make the connection for the pee thing. Tomorrows another day and probably another bath
  6. Gee thanks Caff , for pointing out that I am a mere mortal In 15 years of dogs, I have never had one like this.
  7. I supervise this puppy, he doesn't have access to roam the house, which is what makes it so frustrating. He goes outside does a poo, has a play and whatever else he does out there and immediately piddles the second he walks into the house. He's not frightened or nervous, he's a very smart little dog and has learnt to stack, free bait, walk on lead, he sits, is learning drop and shake hands, so I know his brain works. If only I could get it to sink in,
  8. This is the first truly dirty puppy I have ever had. I am attemtping to crate train him and also house train him. He's 12 weeks old and there are no infections or anything that would make him toilet more frequently than any other puppy. He was peeing a pooing inside, but I now have him trained to poo outside, the problem is him peeing. He can be outside for hours, with access to the grass , we take him out countless times a day and will stay out with him, he will not pee outside, he will poo while you are out there and I know he will poo while we aren't , as he has been on the back verandah when I've left him outside to play ( doesn't worry me as there are pens under there and clean ups easy ) He's quite happy out there either playing on his own, he amuses himself with toys or he plays with an older dog. He can honestly be out there for up to two hours and the minute you bring him inside, he either pees on the floor, the lounge or in the crate. I am buggered if I know what to do with him. I have house trained countless number of dogs and they have all picked it up quickly but this dog is by far the worst and not getting any better. He was raised in kennels ( nothing wrong with that ), let out to toilet on a regular basis, but he just doesn't get it. He must think it's normal to pee inside. where's the pull your hair out emotion ETA: I'm home all the time and can let him in and out more than 20 times a day, I'd like to be able to praise him for weeing outside, but as he has not done one in front of us, it's a bit hard.
  9. Sarah Stafford was a pretty sad and skinny dog when she came to us , from the pound. I'd get her checked by your vet, just to clear her of any obvious illness and then some good quality food, worming, a few baths in a quality medicated shampoo, get rid of any fleas, check and clean her ears and then plenty of love and attention , will soon put her right. I think the attention works wonders
  10. Don't waste your money Tia, a C5 is more than sufficient for your dog.
  11. Pyro came home today and our family is together again. Thankyou my superman, for the treasured memories. We say goodbye to that piece of our lives, but you will be a part of the three of us forever. Rest easy my big boy and for heavens sake, behave yourself
  12. We said our final goodbye to Sarah Stafford this afternoon. She looked so peaceful and she has been laid to rest, where she will be near me. I love you sweet girl, thankyou for the good times and the kisses. You can now run free
  13. Delayed closures and umbilical hernias are one of my pet hates ( have delayed closures in my lines and working to eliminate them ). I have done quite a deal of research into both. The chances of the closing this late are not high and it is likely that the bitch will have the delayed closure for the rest of her life. "True" umbilical hernias are not common. A delayed closure will not have a big impact on a breeding bitch, however an inguinal hernia can. I believe that delayed clossures can be inherited, as per my experience in my dogs. Many will argue that they are caused by bitches being too rough on the puppies, chewing and tugging at the cord soon after birth. I don't think this is the case, as many delayed closures appear in puppies that have been born via c-section. I have posted this article before
  14. It's looks as though he enjoyed a good life ;)
  15. Thankyou Jed, that is what I too believe, as hard as the choice was to let her go, bringing her back would have been unfair to her. She picked me and I'm happy that she did. As sad and heart broken as I am, I have a sense of calm about Sarah, the minute she was gone I could feel it and there was some peace. I can feel her in the house and yesterday afternoon, I saw her walk past the bathroom door on her way from our bed to the loungeroom. Either I've lost the plot and I'm about to be carted off to the mental home, or she's still here in spirit.
  16. Whilst reading through the rescue forum, I saw the usual and very sad pleas for the many dogs in DAS. I watched and I waited and I couldn't undertand why no one wanted and no one collected this beautiful Stafford girl. The last few hours were ticking down and I couldn't let this girl go to the bridge. She arrived a very very sad Stafford, two weeks of anti-biotics saw her return to the bright, energetic and loving Stafford that she must have been in her early years. She became my friend and I saw so much of my MiMi in her, she had a look and a touch that could comfort me. I began to think a couple of days ago that I had infact rescued a pregnant Sarah Stafford , I checked for movement and could find no babies. My darling Sarah just didn't look right. I took her to my vet yesterday and we could see some tumours and knew that there was bleeding. I nearly lost her last night, she mustered the energy and the will to give me one last beautiful picture that I will always treasure. Sarah Stafford marched into the surgery, tail wagging and suprised the vets with how youthful she looked and so surgery began. We have left Sarah Stafford sleeping on the operating table. Her body was full of tumours, her liver and her splean. Those that met Sarah know what a special girl she was , she could melt a heart in an instant. I will always remember her as the girl that got the boys going, the girl who barked like crazy when you clapped your hands, the girl who always wanted to show you her belly and most of all the girl who could never give enough love. This week has been like no other , we have had Sweet dreams forever Sarah Stafford, Mimi and Dude are waiting for you and I know you are all waiting patiently by the gate, for me to join you.
  17. And I am without mine. I miss him so much
  18. Such a sad , sad week in the dog world. RIP sweet girl, there are many new friends waiting for you at the bridge
  19. Thankyou all for your kind thoughts, I know that he meant quite a lot to other people as well. Our hearts have been shattered and I can only hope that time will mend the wounds.
  20. Dear Em We are so sorry to hear of your loss. There is now another angel in heaven. Sweet dreams Princess.
  21. War Dog's Pyro 01.12.2004 - 13.01.2007 May your zoomies be fast and furious. May you always run free. You brought us together. You were our constant companion, our guardian and best friend. You are now our eternal angel. We will always love you, sweet dreams forever our Superman. Shane, Jacki & Luci We are taking time out and time away to deal with our loss.
  22. 6-7 weeks would not be common practice. Eight weeks is the minimum age for every pre-school that I know of. I don;t see anything worng with taking an 8 week old puppy, to a well run pre-school for socialisation and some learning, for both the puppy and the owner. Some of the people attending ours had never owned a puppy and they were thankful for the help that they got, it was help that the petshops and the BYB's were not capable of providing nor did they want to. It's very disturbing to see first time owners with dominant puppies and puppies with issue that are 10 weeks old. It takes a matter of days to form nasty little habits and it can be a long process to break them. And Dougie, we talked about diet in general, what is considered safe to feed your puppies, things that you should never feed a dog. We did not recommend any particular brand, nor did we hand out any food samples, other than training treats that we did not sell in the clinic. It's not always about forcing products onto new puppy owners. I don't think anyone could complain about being given a worm tablet and being shown how to worm your puppy. If you and your puppy can learn a little from pre-school and you feel more confident in training your puppy and dealing with issues like house training and biting, then what is the harm ? Has anyone ever come across a puppy that contracted parvo from a pre-school. I know of over 1000 that have attended and not one sick puppy amongst them.
  23. Only when they have the chance to catch it. I think I need to get my Dad onto the bunnies , I know mine like it
  24. We ran them from 8 weeks of age, which is the most common age for pre-school to start. I used to attend another clinics class, on the final night and talk about grooming, they too started at 8 weeks. On the final night before I moved they were upto their 115th class and that was nearly two years ago. That's over 900 puppies and no illness.
