  1. From looking very sad yesterday , with a limp tail, this arvo he's holding it up when he sees a bird. It is not fully functional as it takes something very exciting ( like hunting to get it extended. Scared the crap out of me, as I've never seen anything like it. Was an interesting learning experience and a crash course for me too :D
  2. The more I look at it and the more I read, the more it looks like cold tail. He hasn't been exposed to water and he's super fit but I guess that it can happen anyway, it is said that it can be associated with hard workouts and he's certainly on the go all of the time. He looks a little better this morning after a dose of anti-inflamatory. He's a bit upset that he was let out of the kennels with the Pugs and not the other Pointers Poor Clarkie
  3. Find an emergency clinic and get there as quickly as you can. This could kill your puppy if left untreated.
  4. I've got some vet wrap, which is good stuff and only sticks to itself. I'll see what the xray shows and will work on splinting from there. If it is broken, the good news is that it's not sticking out at some weird angle Poor little man, he was all set for a big 2008
  5. Just did a couple of checks over the phone with the vet, re feeling and bloody supply and he has both. I think the damage is limited but still painfull. We we whack him on some anti inflamatory pain relief tonight and will assess him again tomorrow and xray to see if it's broken. Vet said they would not touch is anyway as they are not specialist surgeons. I just let the girls across from the other yard into the kennels to feed them and he wanted to play with them, he seems quite happy just in some pain.
  6. I was thinking "limp tail" but if there is no movement it sounds more like it might be broken. Chad hurt his tail a few days ago so I have done a bit of reading. I thought at first that maybe he'd put his back out and was dropping the tail, as they do when they have back pain. But it's now obvious that it works for the first so many joints and then nothing. I'm hoping that it's not a major dislocation, as I would expect to see more swelling and a knink in the tail. The tail itself is straight, unlike many of the sideways kinks that you associate with breaks.
  7. I'm trying to find as much info as possible before I go to the vets. I know many vets would say dock straight away if a break is the case and I want to know what other options there are, if it's the worst case scenario.
  8. I've called the vet and left a message, the vet on call is not the one that I prefer, I'd hoped to get one of the other three. He must be with another client at the moment.
  9. Nope, not that I can see. It appears limp, he can wag the top but but nothing else that I can see. There doesn't appear to be a large trauma site, not a large amount of swelling, he basically looks normal except for the fact that it's not working. I don;t know what he's done ETA i read the same thing
  10. It looks like one of our dogs may have broken it's tail, around about the 6th joint. We don't know how and we can't xray until tomorrow but I am fearing the worst. There is no obvious trauma to the outside of the tail and there's not a huge amount of swelling but it's basically limp from about the 6th joint down. He can still wiggle his bum and wag the first part. I feel sick looking at him, I'm sure there's some pain but there's not much we can do until the vet opens. Has anyone treated a broken tail and had it look normal and function again ? We are very sad , as he's one of our top winning dogs and I'd hate his career to end so soon, as well as being in any pain.
  11. I have a bottle of scourban in mine, some asprin, thermometer, eye cream, nutrigel, neocourt I can't remember what else but this is is on top of what was already in there. Mine stays in the dog trailer 24/7
  12. I'm so sorry for your loss
  13. They may live their entire lives without incident or you may come home one day to find their have torn shreads off each other. Be very clear in setting your boundaries and establishing yourself as the pack leader. Build seperate runs and begin to lock them up whenever you cannot be around to supervise. As good as my guys have been to each other over the years, I know of many who had the same peace I have enjoyed, shattered in an instant and have come home to dead dogs.
  14. I feel for you, fortunately our dogs are not being bitten at the moment and they are being sprayed with insect repellent a couple of times a day. Clean up the poo as often as you can, chuck bleach and water on any cement areas where they have piddled and we are using the jumbo fly traps. We are getting a jumbo trap full in nearly a day It's horrible to watch the flies eat the dogs and it takes one little bite and they are all over them.
  15. Sadly it is common in some Pug lines. What a bummer of a way to start your Pug ownership. I can't offer much in the way of practical support as we have never had to deal with it. The only thing i can suggest is that you look at diet and healing from the inside out as well. I;m sure there will be dietry info in the threads. You might also want to PM Puggles, I think her experience would extend to mange Poor baby
  16. We had our first win last night. A bowl of mince and two very large chicken wings. He ate because he'd been knocking it back for two days I could hear him in the kennel growling and guarding it ( not that anyone could get to it ) and when I went in 5 minutes later, it was gone anyone
  17. Staffords pups can handle chicken wings and lanb flap at 8 weeks Get her onto the hard stuff, it's good exercise for her jaw and it helps those teeth to fall out and come through
  18. Open her mouth up and have a good look at the back of her mouth, check her molars and her pre molars and make sure there isn't a rotten one there, also check that there isn't a piece of bone jammed anywhere in the mouth. They normally smell a bit but it's nothing quite as bad as what you are saying. Give her a good piece of lamb flap and a couple fo chicken wings for tea and see how she looks and smells in the morning. Book a vet appointment for tomorrow and get her checked out anyway. There are other problems that can contribute to bad breath.
  19. I've got the chicken mince out for him ( the others have the good stuff ) and by Dog, he will eat it, or it's time for tough love
  20. Hell no, they are garbage disposal units It's one of the Pointer brothers Cavandra, I feel in seperate pens and I feed three at a time and there are walls where they can't see each other and eyeball. I'm super fussy on feeding and making sure that everyone only eats their food and I like to see exaclty who leaves fod, if it ever happens. I don;t think it's a pack issue , as he's the top of the kennel dogs and he will eat his dry like there's not going to be a tomorrow
  21. No, he's a young dog with good teeth, he chews on other shit that he shouldn't , so there's no probs there and the vet was very thorough last time he was in there I agree with the madness. I'll try browning and then i think it's going to be tough love and tough titties for the boy
  22. I tried to too hot , too cold thing He's being a right royal pain in the arse.
  23. I know, how can it be I'm slowly making the transition to raw and whilst I will most likely not ever feed only raw, I'd like the dogs to be on a high % of raw food. All of the dogs love it, with the exception of one of my boys. It doesn't matter if it's lamb flap, chicken necks, wings, carcass, lamb necks or shanks, he is just not interested. Put a bowl of dry down and it's gone in minutes. His brother on the other hand, dislikes dry and eats it with a look of disgust on his face, yet he loves his raw food. What to do with the boy ? tough love and not feed him for a couple of days, in the hope he will change his mind and get hungry enough ? He used to eat wings and necks as a youngster but has gone off all raw
  24. What a sweet old man. I'm sorry for your loss Roxie
