  1. $180 for the bitches and $109 for the boys. I must be getting a good deal there
  2. Warley, she's beautiful! I know Once upon a time she looked like this
  3. Little Pitty Pat from the last Breilla litter.... OMG she's a big girl now
  4. Xcel runs around the house saying to the male dogs " come here and show me your coin purse " Poor desexed males, as if being chopped is not insult enough, they then have to live with that idiot
  5. I've thought that a couple of times with mine too It's normal and it just depends on the dog, as to the amount of swelling. The fluid should begin to go after a couple of days and usually within a week or so it's just the sacks left. If the area starts to look red or irritated or you notice excessive swelling, or puss then it's back to the vets, you know the drill
  6. $46 for HW test in the country where the vet has no direct competition.
  7. A heart worm test requires the same amount fo blood from a small dog as it does a large one. I'd be calling a few more vets and getting further quotes on that.
  8. Maybe there's your opportunity to lead by example and provide your adopters with happy healthy dogs that have been checked and tested.
  9. Yes an entire litter of swimmers. PTS three of them and battled with the remaining two. I nursed them through but in the end the numerous other conditions that have since emerged in these two puppies, have lead me to rethink. Basically any puppy that was a swimmer, I would never guarantee to a future puppy buyer and would PTS if I had any in future litters. http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=134036 Above is an updated of the problems that have since emerged. ETA: The one thing that shocked me about my litter, was the fact that they were up on their feet and they were able to walk ( did not display the usual swimming motion), you could however depress your thumb straight into the chest, where bone should be. It was horrific and I never want to go through that again. I would suggest if you decide to nurse that puppy through, that you remove it from the gene pool and place it in a home that is understanding of it's bad start to life and also informed that the future may not be so bright.
  10. They can be tested before 8 weeks and then at intervals during their lifetime. ETA: depending on the deal you can get, it's about $50-$80 a puppy.
  11. You assume an awful lot.... So you know both parents or at least one are clear ? You have spent the money and eye tested your dog and bitch ? You have hip scored both parents ?
  12. And these days puppy buyers can and will sue for anything. So beware, if you haven't at least tested for L2-HGA and HC, it may well come back to haunt your hip pocket. and yes, carriers have been identified in this country and there is a very real chance that you could have done a carrier to carrier mating.
  13. Raz has been through pneumonia with Pancake, she was critical when taken to emergency care. I'm sure she'd share her recent experience with you. It's horrible how quickly they go down, they can appear normal one minute and on deaths door within a few hours.
  14. You've just contradicted yourself there, either he's healthy and happy or he's not. A consult is a consult and it will cost the same now as it would in two weeks time. It's just the dog that has the potential to suffer in the mean time with an obvious complaint. Cut the self diagnosis and the attempted cost cutting and take the bloody dog to the vet. If you can't afford a vet consult and treatment when you rescue a dog from a pound, then don't pull it in the first place.
  15. Wash him in something soothing like Episooth and get him to a vet straight away. Why was he not taken to a vet today ?
  16. Sit or lay the dog in a relaxed position. Use your left hand to place around the ear, so that your thumb is at the bleow the ear and the rest of your hand at the top. The opening to the ear should then be between your thumb and index finger. Sprinkle some ear powder on and begin to remove hairs a few at a time, with your right hand. Your left hand will provide a large surface area and as you remove the hair you will feel the dogs head pull towards you. This is fine. Don;t tug quickly on ear hair but rather take small amounts between your finger and thumb and firmly but gently remove them. There is no jerking motion when you pluck ears, it's slow and steady and if done correctly most dogs tolerate it very well.
  17. Go to a vet, get a skin scraping done and rule out mites. Then you know what you aren't dealing with.
  18. My advice to all BYBers, is go and consult you VET, if you have any doubts or concerns regarding your bitches, dogs and litters. another litter of pound fodder I don't suppose you bothered to DNA test your bitch and dog for L2-HGA and HC, hip score or eye test ?
  19. I've been through illness with pups where they have gone stiff from pain etc but that one puppy was like rigormortis had set in. He was truly stiff like he was dead, to the point where I'd picked him up and throught that he was gone, only to have him come back to life again. He died at 5 days. I don't think i would have had the skill to nurse him through at the time and I have no idea what I'd do now if it cropped up again.
  20. I've had one do it, he was the true runt of the litter, quite active when born but the same happened to him. He would literally go rigid and feel like he was dead. It's the strangest thing. We never checked any further into it and I've not seen it since. Like Sandra mine was in a Stafford litter. Hogz, there was no excessive licking from the bitch, she rejected him and pushed him away.
  21. It's just not fair. He was waiting so patiently for his forever home. I never got to meet Harvey but he had a special place in my heart and every time I spoke to Paula I asked had he found his family yet. Sweet dreams forever Harvey. Run fast and run free with Houndee
  22. I would , I have and I would do so again. There is a slight increased risk of bleeding. Have not had any bitches suffer from complications.
  23. I'm sorry for your loss and I know how much these little guys mean to you
  24. That would be this one. Stupidity was not limited to bin lids, both Houndee and his sister enjoy Shapes boxes too
