I stopped reading when I got to the Oscar's Law bit, as anything written by, investigated or sanctioned by them is bullturd

Now see that's where I would have gone.

I like the independent bitches, the ones they don't call "bitches' for no reason

Never, it's easy enough to keep some chicken wings, necks or mince in the freezer.
-
I wash mine and throw it in the dryer and don't have any fluff issues

BFN

I look at that list and think that most owners should be spending more money on chiro, dental, grooming and premium food.

The police officer needed to be a better shot

Don't ask me, because all of mine are very left field LOL

I raise my pups on adult food from weaning, so my advice to you is to pick one that comes close to your desired protein v fat levels and go with it. I've raised pups from weaning on Canidae, Proplan and Royal Canin but the Canidae is the only one I've used that falls within your desired limits. Canidae ALS 24% and 14.5%

Maybe if the dog had been allowed inside it wouldn't have barked? The one next to me in the polling booth was fine - quiet, leashed, controlled didn't even realise he was there to start with as I grappled valiantly for ages with my metre long senate ballot paper, numbering 1 - 73 below the line. No it probably wouldn't have barked if it was with it's owner in the line. But I know if it was my school gym, or community hall, or church that was being used as a polling booth, it would be NO dogs on polling day. Seriously I do not want male dogs hoiking on the ballot boxes or door frames or girls deciding to make a lake somewhere, or dogforbid someone leaving a 'present' in the hall etc. Just as they do with their kids letting them run everywhere, a lot of people just do not watch their dogs or make any attempt to stop the dog from marking or jumping up the legs of the people in front etc. Yes it's sad that I think that way but 2 and a half plus decades of being around the average dog owner on a daily basis has left me feeling this way. If people learnt to keep their pets out of other peoples space, clean & quiet when in public we might see peoples attitudes change. I know most DOLers would but we don't make up the majority of average jo dog owners, far from it. There are plenty who share the average jo attitude of they will do as they please though, when it comes to their dog.

Speak for yourself, mine are well trained and social. I like my dogs and I take them places that they are permitted to attend, I don't however feel the need to drag them everywhere with me and respect the fact that not everyone wants to dine next to a dog , share their motel room or hike through a National Park with one present.
-
But would they be just as out of control if they were allowed most places and had the socialisation and training they required just by a change in lifestyle? Right now most dogs are kept so fenced in, caged up, locked up that we wouldn't have any idea what it would be like to let them have more access and be with their people. I loved being in America as dogs were allowed so many places that we deny them. You make it sound like dogs are required to be kept caged all their life whereas the truth is we have lots of places dogs can go and do. Yet with this freedom it is abused with dogs continually let off leash and other on lead dogs attacked. If those dog owners cannot manage to socialise and train their dogs with the large amount of freedom they currently have what makes you think more freedom will make that change? There is no point comparing us to other countries because we have an entirely different culture, too many people with no respect for anyone else. This ... owners can't get it right now when it comes to obeying the current laws.

Ignorance is no excuse If you don't know you don't know. if people want you to follow the law then they should probably make it more accessible to you. Not everyone is going to spend their days trawling through legislations and acts to see if what they are doing is lawful or not. I'll make it easy for you, as ignorance really is no excuse. http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/nsw/consol_act/caa1998174/ Yeah as I said. I don't have time to sit and read through then memorize the companion animals act. If they want us to obey obscure laws they need to provide signage as I won't be carrying the act around in my pocket. It's hardly " obscure" and the CAA is well written and easily understood. Give it a go and then you won't spend hours whinging about situations that you could easily have avoided , if you'd bothered to read the legislation that applies to you as a dog owner.

Tiem to read up on the Companion Animals Act and abide by the current legislation.

Does not apply to dogs , cats, stampeding Rhino or charging Lions.

I still shake my head at those who believe they can't breed , with all things considered equally. Why can't you breed for type, temperament, structure and soundness. If you breed giving due consideration to all, then you shouldn't be left lamenting over such things.

Advice Please (please Be Kind)
WreckitWhippet replied to Lasareina's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It could be age related, I've certainly seen it in younger bitches and it could also be some kind of natural instinct that kicks in if they whelp and do not feel safe and secure. The OP needs to also be aware that Hare lips and cleft palates are also common birth defects in the breed and be prepared that they may have to euth pups very early on. -

So who actually owns the bitch ? If you do, then get your act together and get the bitch speyed. Sounds like you plan on raising the possible litter and you have the hallmarks of one that asks the questions, says you will desex and then pops back a couple of months later with pics of the bundles of joy. At least start to do the right thing and get both of your dogs tested for L2hGA & HC and have them eye tested and book your time off work now. You are going to need the week before and at least the week after the litter is due, with such a young bitch. If your boyfriend likes to sleep, he can kiss that goodbye as there won't be any for a couple of weeks. Here's the reality. You are going to need to be with her 24/7 for the week before she's due and the same afterwards. Set aside at least $1500 for a C-section, given the size disparity. You will need a whelping box, a pen to go around it, a quiet room in the house, lots of bedding, towels, tarps if you have carpet, a heat lamp. The basics of a thermometer, unwaxed dental floss, scissors, haemostats, nutrigel, calcium Sandoz, 5ml syringes. A decent vet on call. Set aside another $2000 and maybe more to vac, chip and desex the pups. Additional money to worm the puppies and feed them on a good diet. Somewhere in your back yard for them to run and play safely when they are old enough and the keep them separate during the day or when you are unable to directly supervise. The ability to find them all life long homes and you will be up against every other back yard breeder. You will need a crash course in canine anatomy and whelping.
