"and still have it declared as an APBT by a breed assessor" this is my point, there is NO one QUALIFIED to ASSES an ABPT in NSW so it is AUTOMATICALLY declared a cross breed No it's automatically assumed to be to be an APBT or a Pit Bull by council , the breed assessor then determines if it's a "cross". If they were all assumed to be a "cross" then there would be no "breed assessment" and you would go straight to tempt test. If you register your dog as a resticted breed cross, that does not give you the automatic right to a "temp test", the dog is still issued with an NOI and subject to breed assessment. There is no temp test available without first having been assessed as a "resticted breed cross" by an authorised assessor. Yes, there are people qualified to assess, they are the "breed assessors" who are approved and authorised under the CAA ETA : To make it a little clearer, you cannot circumvent council by rocking up with a piece of paper that says your dog has been temp tested and passed, therefor it's not a resticted breed. The only way to obtain that TT result is via the breed assessment, then TT by an authorised temp tester. You could have you dog temp tested by anyone at anytime, however if you do so, it will not stop council from issuing you with an NOI.

You could register it as a blue monkey and still have it declared as an APBT by a breed assessor. Register it as a cross, be issued with an NOI and it could be found to be either an APBT in which case it's game over and no avenue of appeal or a restricted breed cross, where you then have the option to seek a temperament test. To state that no dogs have been found to be of a resticted breed and compelled to comply with the legislation is a lie .

WRONG NOI's have been issued and dogs have failed breed ID and have been declared to be of a resticted breed. There have been many that have been declared to be of a resticted breed cross, the owners then have the option of undergoing a temperament test ( by a person authorised under the act ) at their expense. Any ranger in NSW can suspect your dog to be of a "resticted breed or cross " any authorised breed assessor can declare it to be one. ETA: APBT, if your statement is correct, then there's nothing stopping the OP from doing the right thing, being a responsible dog owner and requesting an NOI from council

I am a plucking groomer too. I only use fingers only and powder my fingers. Like the others I have seen some ears that will make your stomach churn

APBT is not a restricted breed in the ACT
-
I don't understand this bit, could you elaborate please. Possibly referring to plucking the hair from the ear canals, which we frequently do.

If he was chipped by the breeder and his chip was recorded on his papers at some stage, be it at the time of registering the litter or as a later addition , you should be able to find out if he is registered. If the dog is not registered and he comes to the attention a ranger, you may well be issued with a "notice of intent" to declare him to be of a restricted breed or cross. If you cannot find ANKC registration details, you do have the option of requesting an NOI from your council and have him breed assesed at your expense. If you go down that path, you need to be aware that you will have to adide by the requirements of the companion animals act, until your dog has been breed assessed and temperament tested if required. Be aware that it's not just your local council that can seek to have the dog declared to be of a restricted breed or cross, it can be done by any council or ranger in NSW. ETA: In order to comply with the CAA, you must register the dog immediately, as he is over 6 months of age. Take your copy of the chip papers and desexing cert to your local council ( you don;t need to take the dog ) and register him. If a ranger decides to be nasty and your dog is not registered, you open yourself up to fines and an even harder time council. Council cannot do anything with regards to breed, without issuing a notice of intent to declare, so registering with the council is not going to put you in a bad position, it will mean you are a responsible pet owner, who is doing the right thing.

You need to know the state the dog resides in first. If it's NSW, any ranger from any shire can issue an NOI if they suspect they dog to be of a restricted breed, regardless of what a pound has chipped it as. Rangers, pound staff and vets are not classed as "breed assessors".

$150 for a broken canine to come out of a Stafford ( including a dental at the same time ) 3 years ago. Getting another broken canine extracted in a couple of weeks time for $150, I've budgeted $200 but my vet has never charged over the quoted amount yet.
-
I don't get why the OP asked for the vets professional opinion, when all they did was ignore the advice given .
-
I'm still confused, the vet suggested a "spray" and the dog is being treated with a " cream " is that right ?
-
Then what exactly is the point of you posts and what can we help you with ?
-
so do you want us to find you a new vet ?
