  1. As people often point out, you lot are your own worst enemies. I'll update the old dogs condition later.
  2. If the guy next to PPS had been obeying the law and had his dog locked up like he shouldve done by law the dog wouldnt have got out and savaged the dog next door and made another negative against pitbulls. From what I can see your all digging your own (your dogs) graves by thumbing your noses at the law.Anyway Ive said what I think so nothing more from me in this thread Ive been attacked and sworn at before on this forum and I dont want it again thanks. Just a small correction, next door on both sides are responsible dog owners, they are registered and kept in accordance with the CAA. It's the one over the back who doesn't.
  3. Given the irresponsible behaviour demonstrated by some APBT owners, there's a fair bit to be negative about. The biggest threat to the breed lies within the ranks of its fanciers IMO. Yep and it's the irresponsible ones amongst them that are letting both the dogs and the breed down.
  4. Nothing positive to say about irresponsible dog owners who cannot contain their dog within their property according to the Companion Animals Act. Next door neighbour has nothing positive to say either, given he was woken up from nightshift, by a screaming dog, that so happened to be his own, being attacked in his own back yard. He now has a 13 year old dog that is nursing injuries and a vet bill to go along with it. Another nail in the coffin for BSL, it will contribute to the dog attack statistics. It's a prime example of an owner of a restricted breed not abiding by current legislation... hardly a responsible dog owner leading by example. I am still disgusted that this has happened and I do not wish such attacks upon any dog. I am very thankfull however that the dog escaped into my next door neighbours yard and not ours.
  5. Dog was not adequately contained in it's yard ( let alone the child proof enclosure it should have been in due to being both dangerous and resticted ) , escaped into neighbours yard and set about attacking neighbours 13 year old dog , neighbours dog on it's own property. Full view from my side fence of dog being attacked. Attack was still happening after I made my way into the neighbours yard to assist him. Know what breed it is via the owner admitting , so did not need to rely on my own opinion. and people wonder why there is BSL and the DD laws are getting tougher
  6. Cynthia, he's up and about now. Puncture wounds and lacerations to the elbow and shoulder , his head and neck. Just what a dog needs at the age of 13
  7. Neighbour just called in to thank me for the other day and to let me know how the dog is. Other neighbour refusing to accept any responsibility for what happened. As well as being the owner of a restricted breed that has failed miserably when it comes to his obligations under the CAA, his dogs are also actively used for hunting and should have been kept in a child proof enclosure as per the CAA and the dangerous dog clauses.
  8. Chip now, he will barely notice nor will he care
  9. History here says that Aussie Pollies very rarely say they've got it wrong let alone repeal legislation.
  10. What I eventually see happening ( especially in Australia ) is the move towards no ANKC/ KC papers, with matching microchip = pit bull People continue to disregard the current legislation and it's only going to get tougher, eventually there will be no where to hide.
  11. Sandra I guess that's what happens when there is continued and blatant disregard for the laws, all sorts of law abiding owners and non offending dogs get caught up in it. They have obviously drawn the line in the sand now at 16/36 and the pit bulls now have no where to hide.
  12. Hang on and I'll go and turn a few upside down. ETA: A couple of brindles and a few greys from a scar .
  13. Haven't been over, will go later tonight when I know I'm not going to wake anyone up.
  14. All under 16 inches as mature adults, all under 20 kgs
  15. I guess their logic stems from the AST not being a recognised breed, therefore anything over the standard Stafford size must be a Pit Bull or a Pit Bull cross. Owners continue to ignore whatever current legislation is in place, so the pollies up the stakes and further the bans. Let it be a lesson to those who ignore the legislation in this country, we can expect to follow suit
  16. Do you know what he's allergic too ? Sounds like hot spots from what you are saying
  17. Leaves the standard Stafford untouched by the looks of it
  18. I just feel disgusted, it was a blood curdling scream that didn't let up, the kind that makes you feel ill. Old defenceless dogs don't deserve that in their own yard.
  19. All is quiet. I believe the other dog may have been seized, I'll find that out tomorrow. I'll be pushing for it to be destroyed. Neighbours dog didn't bark when the kids came home ( he always does when they pull up ), he might be at the vets still.
  20. He's still alive, we got him into the garage away from the dog, while we dealt with it and then checked him over. He's of course punctured and torn around the neck and had his elbow ripped and punctured. He's an old dog, who minds his own business in his own back yard. Ranger was very prompt , within two minutes of calling had arrived.
  21. I should have called the ranger months ago when the new neighbours moved in with their Pit Bull. Of course believing in punish the deed and not the breed, I thought they would be responsible and treated their dog just like any other. I should have called and I should have insisted that they ranger issue an NOI. I would not be left feeling guilty about my next door neighbours old desexed and harmless gundog that had pieces torn off him in his own back yard. An act which I could have prevented. I heard god awful screaming and thought he'd hung himself on a fence. I raced across the yard and looked over the fence to see the poor old fellow on his back, Pit Bull around his neck screaming. Neighbour smashed the dog with a metal rake and somehow got it off. ranger called, dog dealt with... no more second chances
  22. Pull him up instantly ? Trainer grabs pup, forces it to the ground .. I've seen that done before you can even get out of your chiar, let alone rescue the poor bloody pup from such treatment. The damage has already been done, long before the puppy chucks the tantrum , as you put it. When actually it's no tantrum at all, it's a natural response to being grabbed and pinned, the majority of puppies immediately begin to scream, having been roughly treated and pushed into a vulnerable position. Time to scrap the text books and get into the real world. Go and check out how a breeder raises happy puppies, that are accepting of the human hand and willing to learn without being subjected to brute force. Force is the cop out, for the person who's not willing to take the time to teach their puppy.
  23. No puppy needs to be forced to the floor and left screaming until it submits in that position. I don't know how anyone could think that such man handling of a baby puppy can be in any way positive and to use the excuse of the pup or adult needing to be excamined by a vet is a cop out. My pups stand quietly on the vets table from the very first vacc and microchip, you can check teeth, eyes, ears, take temperature and check over every inch of them without them causing any kind of fuss. It's the same with the adults, this comes from having a firm but kind hand with them and daily hands on. We've done some things at the vets with my dogs that leave the vets amazed at their patience and acceptance, where normally they would be forced to sedate
  24. and there's also a disclaimer about using such methods on the show
  25. If my breed was discriminated against the way that APBT's are, I'd certainly want it to go somewhere. Like a shift in the publics perception of it's image and the support of the pollies
