  1. I've spent many hours on the phone to one breeder who used to have quite a few c-sections and has worked hard to reduce them to a level where she just doesn't see them anymore. The advice from her in a nutshell, as keep the bitches from the good bitches who do it all on their own. I nearly kept and mated one, thankfully there was a problem mating her, we had her examined by our vet and promptly pet homed her. I don't believe in prog testing, Ai's ( unless imported semen ), holding onto dogs and bitches etc, if they can't mate on their own, whelp on their own and raise their own pups, I don't see the point in breeding them.
  2. OK - so how come my dogs who eat meat on the bone every single day for every single meal poo out rocks and not treacle? Dogs can't digest whole grains and unprocessed vege and don't have the correct intestinal make up to make use of carbs as their primary source of energy. They have the gut of a carnivore combined with the stomach acids of a scavenger. No treacle poo here either and ours are fed the same way, meat off the bone
  3. I'll try and fluff it up for the new people in future, when their whelping boxes are fiflty, they have newborns laying on cold lino, their heads are at risk of getting stuck behind the pig rails or a pup looks deformed or sick
  4. I don't sugar coat things and fluff it up for the readers. If you don't like how I say things, don't read my posts.
  5. It does need a clean and the blanket needs changing. It's not being rude, it's pointing out some basic animal hygiene practices and I'm not the only one who noticed it. ETA: I've also pointed out to a someone else that bare floors and puppies under a week old are not a good combination, because of heat sink. I've also shown someone how dangerous pig rails are, if the pups can get their heads up behind them.
  6. That clam shell really needs a clean.
  7. What's with the reference to (warree line ) ?
  8. I personally think they should either write them into the standard so that they can be judged without contradiction, or write them out all together. My preference being for the later and include them along with the livers and the B & T's. The BSE basically states that to show, breed or award a prize to those colours ( b & T or liver ), serves only to encourage them , where infact they should be ostracised, as when bred with they will spread like a germ.
  9. Ask the blue breeders do they show and if you wanted to show can they help you learn how to train your dog for the ring. The majority of them won't be able to and you'll be lucky if you can find a dog in the first page of the pups pedigree, that has actually graced the ring. Ask them about the breed standard and what they feel the strengths and weakness are in their dogs. They'll feed you plenty of lines like, she's got a great personailty, she's a registered pedigree blue, carries blue lines, sleeps on our bed, big tank frame, built like a dog ( when it's a bitch ), growing into a huge female, producing deep blue offspring, great little mum. Yes temperament is important, however a well bred dog is a complete package of type, temperament and soundness.
  10. when I think my dogs are stressed, I take the rescue remedy and it usually fixes it
  11. You could also try some "rescue remedy", it's a bach flower essence that is safe for dogs and people. You just put a couple of drops on the tongue , I'd give yourself a dose as well, it's pretty good for reducing stress.
  12. I think you're dealing with two issues, one is a physical problem as it's certain not normal to bleed from the mouth and nose and the other is bathing him. Also make sure your water is just luke warm.
  13. As a groomer I've had to really restrain some dogs, but I've never come across that before. How and where are you attempting to bath him ? what kind of surface are you putting him on ? My suggestion would be to put a rubber mat in the bottom of your bath tub, put him in there ( no water ) hold him firmly if need be, pat and reassure him, allow him to settle there, treat and take him out again. Keep repeating this a couple of time a day. He needs to get used to being put in a bath or a hydrobath without the water and without causing him to panic. For a dog to start bleeding from the mouth and nose there must be something physically wrong with him, I've seen some pretty stressed and worked up dogs over the years but nothing to that extent.
  14. Just 34 litters of the rare and wonderful blue available. if you are really lucky you might get yourself a " rare English blue Staffy" They are an absolute rip off, you get nothing for your money other than a dilute which doesn't even conform to the breed standard. Lots of main registered pups, from people who have no idea about the breed or the breed standard, who cannot back up what they sell, cannot offer those buying any real breeder;/exhibitor support and the circle continues. No wonder the breed is heading down hill at a rapid rate
  15. That's another indication that they have no idea and to run a mile. Not every puppy is deserving of being on the main register.
  16. Somewhere around $900 - $1200 for a well bred puppy from an ethical breeder.
  17. You feel no need and I wish I hadn't. I now just keep my hands behind my back and whatever happens will happen. I believe that intervention weakens the subsequent generations and I feel the same about c-sections. I want bitches that free whelp and do it with ease, I want strong pups that suckle well and thrive.
  18. A bit of warm salty water. My pups look like they've been ripping each other apart, this happens until they cut their adult canine teeth. Once this happens they tend not to damage one another as much. If you are not showing them, I wouldn;t worry about it, just patch them up when they do any damage.
  19. You as a breeder continued the fight for her - I would have not. I've learnt my lesson with tube feeding and intervention and from there on in, if they weren't strong enough to suckle that's it, mother nature decides what happens to them
  20. Pancake would be a prime example of why not to bother to tube feed, she's a walking time bomb.
  21. I can do it and I'm confortable doing it, however I am of the opinion that if the pup is not strong enough to suckle, then it's not one that I want to raise and send off into the world. I've done it before and I won't be doing it again, my intervention levels are now low and the most I will go to now is a bottle top up. I did this with the last singleton who was fine in herself, it just took the bitch a bit longer to let down her milk. For others I think there's the fear factor.
  22. All good in theory but I really think you are opening yourself up to being sued by a puppy buyer, if you sell a puppy without a vacc from a vet and a vet check that goes along with it.
