Breeder Wanting Puppy Back For Future Litters
WreckitWhippet replied to westozmike's topic in General Dog Discussion
I a breeder expects you to raise the bitch, feed and take care of it and get a litter back. The very least they can do is give you the bitch. -

x 2 There are plenty of good stafford breeders who'll sell you a pet outright. The idea of having a bitch entire for years, of dealing with seasons, of having her absent from your home for months at at time and being at a breeders beck and call is not what I'd aim for in a pet. You would be looking at a first season at around 7-9 months and then one every six months from them on. By the time they breed her twice, you may well have gone through 7 or so seasons. Even if you kept your bitch at home between mating and just before whelping, she'd still be gone for at least 8 weeks. -

Another exciting pic from the town in which we live one neon light, we don't even have a set of traffic lights. I'm a bit jealous that others have beaches and places with people to take pics -
They are never to old to start. I don't always start with baby puppies some of mine are closer to 12 months before they see the show ring. Sometimes it takes a bit more of an effort to get older dogs to settle down and ignore the other dogs but it can be done. My hound was 2.5 and he took to showing like he'd been in the ring all of his life. If you are interested in it, then join the Canine Council in your start and do it. If you give a general location , there might be a DOLer who can either help you out or point you in the right direction for some training help and getting started.

Why Don't People Pick Up After Their Dogs At Shows?
WreckitWhippet replied to TessnSean's topic in General Dog Discussion
There is a thing called karma and it's those dogs who piss all over everything, that often piss on their owners legs. I don't bother to tell them they are doing it just let them feel the wet leg and shoe -

Any Way Of Keeping Neighbour's Cat Out Of My Yard?
WreckitWhippet replied to chichihuahua's topic in General Dog Discussion
What's CPS ? -
I've pointed out that by destroying the dog straight away, they limit their opportunities to find and fine the owner. They are better off holding the dog for the minimum number of days required for a stray, if the owner comes forward to claim, fine and then destroy the animal. Micropchips also fail, we experienced this last year with a dog that we know was 100% chipped and registered , yet the chip failed to scan, after trying the entire body and two scanners. Registered and chipped dogs could well be destroyed in error. ETA: that size or breed should play no part in the decision to seize but rather any aggressive actions of the dog towards people or other animals.

hiring traps and driving to and from pounds is going out of your way and not so easy if the cat outsmarts it. Set properly and baited with a can of sardines, you will catch the majority of cats within two days. I managed to get all of the one's that were coming onto our property in the space of a couple of days and none of them have been seen since. -
If it's for a Wei I have a tailor made pattern for the Pointers, which also fits Wei's and Dobes perfectly. I'd be happy to make a fleece coat for you

Cat trap and take it to the pound. It's what we do here, with councils blessing ETA: No one should have to go out of their way , spend their money or invest in gadgets to keep roaming cats off their property. Cat traps are easy and effective -

It shits me to tears and how they could not know their dog has just taken a dump is beyond me. I've got bags stuffed in my pockets, my socks and in a holder on the end of all of my leashes, just to be on the safe side -

Don't waste your time Warley, this boys father is a vet of 35? years and mum is a vet nurse of between 16 & 25 years (depends where you read) so they would OBVIOUSLY know all this, wouldn't they? I think it's very important information to be getting out there to others who may be in a similar situation. Just because this one knows it all, doesn't mean that others who care about their potential new puppy won't listen. An 8 week old pup, having been vaccinated at 6 weeks, could well have zero immunity. It would be much safer to wait a while, then work with a breeder who can vacc at 8 weeks and then again at 12 and give a puppy a fighting chance.

Things My Breeder Should Have Told Me About Vets !

I'll lend you my Super Man undies -
what are you on about dude......i dont have a puppy (yet) and how is me getting a puppy placing it in danger? By your own admission that the pet shop puppy you purchased died of parvo whilst in your home and in your care. Even if you only had the puppy in your home for a day, it is still enough for the virus to have contaminated your property. Parvo virus remains stable in the environment, it can withstand heat, sunlight, cold temps for many months. You can wash and bleach your floors and cement areas, however the virus can remain for many months in carpet, grass , bare earth and even cracks in cement. Did your puppy get sick within a week or so of coming home from the pet shop ? Consensus amongst vets and those who have studied the virus , is that you should not introduce a puppy to an area that has been exposed to the virus for at least 6 months and 9 months or more is preferable. I'm guessing that you would expect any breeder that you choose to be upfront and honest with you about the puppy they are going to sell you, it's health status and any guarantees, it's parents and how they've raised it. You would be expecting to buy that puppy, the breeder having provided full disclosure ? Then do the same in return.
-
I find it really sad that someone would even consider placing a puppy in danger. Maybe if they were to be honest about the situation, a breeder might be willing to negotiate hanging onto a puppy until after the second vacc, for the sake of the puppy that they've invested a lot of time and emotion into raising. ETA: Please do inform breeders of what happened to your last puppy and let them decide if your home is suitable for one of their puppies.

If exhibitors want to spend a week in the central west this year, you can do Blayney on the Saturday before the Bathurst Royal and on the Sunday you can go to Sofala, then there's Boorowa on the Friday and the Bathurst Royal the Sat/Sun or if coming from the other side of the state you can do Rylstone/Kandos on the Saturday and Sofala on the Sunday. All great little country shows and enjoyable. They dates don;t work out every year but this year you can get a few done in the one week.
