Cross breeding does nothing but rob the pedigree gene pool , assuming that of course the dogs were of sufficient quality to contribute in a positive way. If they were'nt then they shouldn't be bred from full stop.
-
Nope, we've flown probably 30 puppies over the years and the worst we've had is a cancelled flight and a few that have missed connections. They've arrive late bit none the worse for wear.

Does anyone know where you can buy these online (but in small amounts). I wouldn't mind trying some out but have only seen them in massive boxes and don't want to be lumped with 5kg's of them if Kei decides he doesn't like them We use the Kong biscuits. Not for training, only one in the Kong when I go out. Not the cheapest biscuits in the world but they last me a while, I can buy them locally and I am happy with the ingredients (when compared to other brands like Supercoat/Hills/IAMs etc.) The Kong biscuits have no preservatives either. For training treats we use something much smaller like tiny pieces of cheese, chunkers or even cat biscuits They only come in the big box. I've seen them for sale in smaller bags in some retail outlets, but they have simply bagged from the larger boxes. Someone who buys in bulk might post you a few to try.

Do you know what's in those??? They are full of crap, I wouldn't feed those to my dogs. They were recommended to me by my dogs breeder....so I don't consider them crap. They are made from garbage and are loaded with salt.

Try 4 x 2's or 2x2's . Not sure if Farrels and Box one still make them but they are basically the same thing, a hard biscuit, just not in the pretty shapes

Garages are hot in summer and heat sinks in winter ( although to a lesser extent in the tropics ). Build a secure run, concrete the floor, have a roof on it and padlock him in when you are not home. Make sure it's in a spot with some sun and plenty of shade. There needs to be somewhere in the run that is covered and the dog can get out of the rain. Puppies should not be locked in garages or bathrooms for extended periods of time, they require fresh air, sunshine and something to at least look at other than 4 walls.

I guess what I'm saying is that transporting a puppy or dog is a calculated risk, unless you go and collect it yourself. If you are going to suggest a mode of transport, then you really need to know what goes on before doing so. It might not be as big of a risk to a fully vaccinated older dog going to a pet home, but could potentially be disasterous for a breeder who is using that transport company in good faith, thinking there are no pound dogs on there. Now, we could significantly reduce the risks associated with transport, if people vaccinated their dogs and puppies and big one would be if all dogs from pounds were quarantined.
-
I guess people bringing pets into pet homes really don't have to worry as much about breeders.
-
If they're still transporting unquarantined pound dogs in the same dog trailers with other dogs, I'd not touch them with a barge pole. To be honest, I never asked. Dog has had vacs. Do airlines only fly showdogs that live on their own? Who knows. However we spent weeks organising getting a dog that had been quarantined to someone who would pick him up, then I'd meet up with them. All good and we were promised that no unvaccinated dog or dog fresh from the pound would be transported. Infact it was checked twice. We found out after he'd already been put in the trailer ( he was on his way ) that he was infact on the same trip with dogs that were fresh from one of the southern NSW pounds. Bloody awesome, it could have put my yard and pups at risk.

Sol's experience is one that stays fresh in my mind. What did your vet bill end up and how long long did it take yours to recover ?

To be honest, living with a dog who will fight and working with a lot of dogs who will fight, I can't imagine why ANYONE would entertain the idea of willingly entering into an arrangement that produces a statistically higher probability of it occurring. Better to wait 18 months between pups, not only do you lower the risks dramatically, you get to enjoy puppies for TWICE AS LONG! I don;t understand it either.

No , the majority of the horror stories come from people who are very well versed in the breed, are good trainers and can manage a pack. Precautions and early training will most likely not be enough to stop them from challenging one another. These are just some of the things that will cease to happen in your home if your two dogs decide not to tolerate one another * no more rides in the car, unless in seperate crates or behind a cargo barrier * no more walks together on leash, unless two adults are prepared to go together * no sitting on the lounge or enjoying their time with you together in the house * no play time together in the yard what you will be doing * constantly checking that doors to dog runs and gates are shut properly * constantly asking the family where X dog is before you let Y dog out of it's run, open a gate or door or let it into the house * checking for yourself that x is indeed where the family says he is what you will hope * is that the family didn't stuff up what they've told you * that x is indeed where you think he is * and if you do stuff up, that you can somehow seperate them before the damage is excessive Just out of interest what colour are the two pups ?

Yep, my advice is like Sandra's and it's don't do it. Buy one now give it a couple of years and then by your next one. Those those dogs that I know of that have had the massive fights have been the litter mates or those that are close to one another in age. I know of owners who have come home from work to find a dog that has torn the face off another , these dogs were seperated by a chain link fence and still managed it. Males can a will fight to the death. They will commonly break their canines on fences, which will eventually require them to be removed. Keeping them seperate for the first 12 months isn't going to help you any. Even a quick scuffle between dogs or bitches that normally tolerate each other can result in a huge amount of damage in a split second. If you want two now, then buy a dog and a bitch.
-
What she says. I've raised several litter mates, this includes Stafford males, Pointer males and Stafford pups of the opposite sex. It's a bloody lot of hard work when it comes to training and socialisation to ensure the needs of the dogs are met and to ensure they are both well adjusted individuals. You are, in all probability going to need the ability to seperate them. They can and will most likely take a dislike to each other at some stage. If you are purchasing them as family pets, then I'd forget about it. There's a real chance that you will need to keep them seperate at some stage and this is a real juggling act. It can be especially dangerous if you have children in the home, it's very easy for them to leave a gate open, open a door at the wrong time.

Wormers - Do Worms Become Resistant?
WreckitWhippet replied to WildatHeart's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Not sure if it's resistance or the efficacy of certain products. ETA: I've always used Drontal and don't rotate products, have never experienced worm burden in adults. Have used Troy for the babies a couple of times and had worm burden, which would probably be related to efficacy not resistance. -
Bidding Madness Riles Locals At Blacktown Pound

Cordy might be the one to talk to, I believe it was one of the main pounds that she dealt with . -

why not visit an American Bulldog forum, they should be a wealth on knowledge
-
I'm not sure there ever was one, this list comprises of the ANKC breeds that this site promotes
-
That's cheap and nothing related to the airlines and flying dogs is low cost these days.

There's no excuses for roaming and manacing dogs. Average Joe is growing ever less tolerant of it and rightly so http://www.bordermail.com.au/news/local/ne...ck/1730368.aspx

Why Don't People Pick Up After Their Dogs At Shows?
WreckitWhippet replied to TessnSean's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm still at a loss as to why an exhibitor can't toilet their dog on the grass or go and find a spot that is suitable , that does not involve letting their dog pee on and potentially damage another persons property. Boot up, band up and go find somewhere. I'm sure the same people that won't toilet their dogs on grass , still exhibit them in the grassed rings -
Studmasters- How Do You Prefer To Mate Your Dogs?
WreckitWhippet replied to Bulldust's topic in Breeders Community
The dogs that we allow to run with the bitches all continue to eat, they certainly have down time. Something else that i have noticed is that these dogs also breeze through the other bitches being in season. Not every dog is used every time a bitch is in. We have none of the screaming, fence jumping, climbing through windows, days of starvation, crate eating and the like that others complain about. These dogs are all more than capable of getting the job done, but they are relaxed, they know when it's time and they know when the bitches go off. -
