  1. It sounds like they will still be able to surrender to the pound or PTS but they will have to keep records of what they do. I'd like to know how it will be policed, as I thought that the GRA already had guidelines in place. I don't like to see any dogs in pounds but Greys in particular, as the often become ill in a very short space of time. The one's that shit me the most are those who dump on a Saturday night in the middle of winter after a race. No rugs, fresh from the track with no weight on them. I've pulled one such dog from DAS, I tracked down his details and he raced on the Sat night and was dumped in the night pens. He developed a respiritory infection that was so bad, he had to be PTS the day after he came home. I'm not sure how it will work though, the one's that have raced would be easier to keep track of but for those who go unnamed there's really no way of knowing their fate.
  2. Cutting the nails and keeping them short may see some improvement but if I had to guess , I'd say the bulk of it is genetic and not diet related. ETA: He needs to be kept at a weight where you can feel his ribs and he has a defined tuck.
  3. What else has been altered over the years and who has been stitched up as a result of it ? Makes you wonder doesn't it, how many people never got a fair go at their hands
  4. I've not read anything about this . I must go through some journals as this is the first I've heard
  5. That would be cool!! Clear the waiting room
  6. I'm thinking of making the trip to your surgery Stormie, so I can get my younger dogs a standard C3 and be signed off for the next three years. I'm not interested in the "new" 3 year vacc, so if you're prepared to sign off on the old one, it's worth the 3 hours drive.
  7. I don't care where we get one, as long as it happens
  8. Nothing, mine are fed a raw diet all year round and are kept in top physical condition.
  9. Nope, my Stafford girls all easily whelp their puppies.
  10. I use the Drontal liquid at 2 weeks ( tried Troy and ended up with worm burden ) , then at 4 weeks they get a tablet.
  11. They could have shot it and then billed her for the man hours they spent trying to catch the bloody thing.
  12. put it this way, I didn't own and wouldn't own and 1st or second cross QH
  13. I'm breedist when it comes to all of my pets. My cats since leaving home have also been pedigree animals from registered breeders. I'm planning on maybe a Winnie Pig for my daughter and it too will come from a registered breeder ETA: My QH's were purebred and registered with AQHA. I've only owned one cross bred horse. I like to know what I'm getting in terms of type, temperament and soundness in every animal I buy
  14. If the dog is bored and understimulated, she can take it for a good hour of exercise each day.
  15. Whilst I feel for her loss, that dog potentially endangered the lives of others. It was her dog and her duty to keep it contained. She was fortunate that the police did run it over and the dog didn't cause a major accident.
  16. You're welcome. I should add, that we only discussed Vytrate and not any other electrolytes.
  17. You can hardly find a vet you like or seek a second opinion if it's an emergency. What it does mean that people should have around $5000 stashed away for emergency surgery. I suppose those who loftily post that if you can't afford veterinary care you shouldn't have a dog, have such funds readily available. Surgery costs, it's expensive, you can either pay for it or in the case of an emergency ask the price up front and if you can't afford it, then euth the dog. The majority of emergency clinics, will advise you of the costs , they also expect that you will pay upfront before treating your dog. It's a fact of life, if you own a dog and it becomes sick or injured , you will have vet bills. There's no medicare for dogs, so if you can't afford large vets bills, take out pet insurance.
  18. I'd love for them to consider my breeding hobby as a business, the losses are horendous and I'd quite happily claim all of the GST each month on food, the vets. I'm not sure if they'd be interested in me after the first year, I could predict a big deferred loss
  19. Our vet will vaccinate pups that are not chipped. I know this because I get pups vaccinated when required eg 6 weeks etc. but do not chip the pups until the are sold. As for size I wouldn't buy that one. The needle for chipping isn't that much bigger than a vacc needle. Probably won't have a problem with the vet unless they have a system that uses the chip number to identify the dogs records (Doubt it though). However I am of the same feeling as SBT123 on this. It is a legal requirement that any pup changing ownership (in NSW) must be chipped and it seems to me that the person that sold the pup just didn't want to do it as it would have cost them money. For that reason I wouldn't be surprised if it hasn't been vaccinated for the same reason (cost the breeder money). Again this is why I am against BYB as many of them are only concerned with what it costs compared to what they get back. If size is the excuse for not chipping, then the puppy is too small to be leaving the breeder and the breeder should be hanging onto the puppy until it reaches a size that they think is appropriate for chipping. No breeder in NSW should be allowing any puppy or dog to change hands without first being chipped, if it's big enough to rehome, it's big enough to chip.
  20. Moral of the story is , use a vet you like, find out prices upfront and if it's something major or you are unsure, seek a second opinion. Owning a dog does not come without costs and vets weren't a charity last time I checked
  21. That's not going to happen as they are happy with the puppy, so unless there is a problem with it's health I can't see them doing anything. Just out of interest, ball park figure how much have they saved in $$$$ terms by not microchipping? Somewhere between $25 and $55 per puppy. Not microchipping is the one thing that really gets me p!ssed off, it's one of the most basic requirements as a breeder ( any breeder be it registered or BYB ) under the companion animals act.
