Can some one point me in the direction of current rules and regs for ET and also if there are any NSW/ACT clubs conducting one this year Cheers

Mike, arm yourself with a pocket full of food, all day every day and whenever you walk into the back yard or she's hanging around you inside, you can practice those exercises off leash. Do it a couple of times, maybe a one sit in there, tell her she's a good dog and walk off. You'll find that you'll get a very positive response from her and that she will want to be with you. The food is a great motivator in the beginning but give her a couple of months and she'll be hanging around like a bad smell. You can also teach her to recall. Wait for an opportunity when she's looking at you, say her name and as she starts heading towards you "come". Make it a happy voice and praise her/treat her when she gets to you. From there you can move on to gaining her attention, then calling her in. Start with small distances and opportunities when you know she will come. Make the most of the madness, the crazy one's learn very quickly and they love to please you. I've seen so many people become frustrated with the excited/overtop Stafford but with some consistent work, they are the most rewarding ones.

Keep your dog on a leash and under effective control. It helps to avoid the psycho's in this world.

aww Huga, you have Tarnies too

was it this one SBT123? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT Yep, they were the one's, the fronts don't stay held together and the bolt part on the catches is short and barely goes across. They were also flimsy. I've got 2 of those in the 36" and hate them, the Whippets are the only one's that use those.

I got one lot that were absolute crap, can't remember what the sellers name was but the pics were taken on like a pebble-crete driveway or similar. The Vebo one's I have 9 of and a puppy pen and they have been the best and the cheapest by far, with delivery the next day. ETA: SNAP Cazstaff, you have a collection too LOL

When it comes to BSL they are. The focus at this point in time, should be looking out for our ANKC recognised breeds and making sure that they are not added to the list. If you want a true reflection of what average Joe thinks of the APBT and BSL, pull up in a few random streets, in random suburbs and knock on some doors. I think you will find that the majority of people agree that they should be banned and that they have no interest in seeing the bans over turned. Naturally they will be labelled as fools, the media brainwashed and dismissed as such, but it's all of those people and just about every pollie in the country that you need to convince otherwise. After QLD's recent court case events, my sole focus will be the ANKC breeds, backing the CC's and making sure our recognised Bull Breeds are safe.

I excluded my hobby, as those costs are through the roof I did walk away and make breakfast and did think about boarding. Surely the average dog owner holidays and either boards their dog or pays for other care.
-
I don't think mine would cost anywhere near that much. For up to ten dogs I spend around $4000 on food, that comes in way below the $1200 each. I feed raw and premium dry ( for the two dogs that eat it ) . My vet bills wouldn't be that for each dog either. Some wouldn't see a vet in any given year, others might go once, it just depends on them injuring themselves , breaking teeth etc. The bitches cost me more with ultrasounds, xrays and whelping supplies. I make up for the lack of vet spending with my chiro bill, that would be around $1000-$1500 a year. I think my dogs would come in way under budget on the basics.

What To Do About An Attacking Dog?
WreckitWhippet replied to dee lee's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm not sure why you didn't report it weeks ago, when it happened. -
The Pit Bull is a lost cause in the majority of states in this country. What the ANKC needs to worry about now is what happens to it's recognised breeds and look after it's members. Of course distancing the pedigree ANKC dogs from the APBT, didn't help the Pit Bull, but getting as much space between our pedigree dogs and the generic brindle dog, could well make the difference when crunch time comes. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier, bred by the ANKC registered breeder, is not the same as the average brindle dog that people refer to and register as a "Staffy", why should we be dragged down with them. I do not think the owners of SBT's in this state, who have pedigree papers and a matching chip, have anything to worry about. Those without papers, I think are a whole other kettle of fish.
-
My pic is somewhat more sedate. Given that the Whippet zoomies ended in an injury There's a helicopter taking off from the hospital and Poodie has just heard it.
-
I don't think it will be the registered pedigree dogs next, it will be all of the cross breds and those that cannot prove what breed they are. The ANKC breeds need to distance themselves as far as possible from the generic dogs and promote the stability of the temperaments of the pedigree dogs.

I think they have misprinted and whoever anwsered at Dogs, just read what was in the journal.

No such luck for me. I went to work.

Absolutley we need to be looking at the dogs and the breeders. You can bet that the vast majority of dogs involved in attacks do not come from ethical registered breeders, who have carefully selected the homes for the puppies, that are going to do the right thing by the dogs. I for one won't be happy with the dogs from registered breeders going down with the sinking ship. I hope the Canine Councils are suited up and ready to go, to look after us and our pedigree dogs.
-
I'd like to know as registered breeders are we getting it right, when it comes to selecting for temperament, raising our pups and selecting appropriate homes. My own experiences would say yes, given that none of the dogs I have bred, to my knowledge have been involved in attacks. If we are getting it right, what knowledge can we impart , that could help reduce the bite stats.

I would be using a flat collar or a martingale, never a halti on a dog, there's the potential to cause damage to the dogs neck. Spend some time on a focus exercise, that rewards the puppy. Put her on her leash ( it doesn't matter if she's not sitting ect, just let her be ) wait for a distraction and then call her name, as soon as she looks at you and you have her attention, reward her. If she doesn't look at you, give a slight tug on the leash and reward her when you have her attention. It's a very basic exercise but it's one that I start with, with all of my dogs. ETA: stop the interaction with other dogs for the time being, until you have control over the situtation and she is more focused on you and inclined to ignore the other dogs, in favour or your attention. At the moment, interacting with other dogs is far too exciting for her, she should only be allowed introduced and allowed to play when she is calmer. She's not going to miss out on anything by not playing, it's far more important that she learn some manners and learn to focus on you at this age.

I only agreed with you! Maybe we can get the ANKC to lobby that all papered purebreds show it clearly ID'd on their microchip. Apart from the research value in getting accurate data re dog bites/attacks....there'd be value in getting health information for vet science & demographic information for councils. And it's not elitism... Yeah but you have a way with words

I completely agree, the breeder is responsible for the education and the carefull selection of where they place their puppies. They also have an obligation, as far as I'm concerned to assist the puppy buyer throughout the life time of the dog. I personally don't think the problem owners/dogs are from the ethical registered breeders, but whilest we continue to be lumped in with the generic "Staffy" , we'll never know.

Congratulations to you, Sara and her breeder. I'm not a fan of Beagles but Macey and her babies have converted me over the last couple of years. She's gorgeous and the progeny are equally as stunning.
