  1. There is no " show quality" in a baby puppy, just "show potential" and there's a hell of a lot of uglyness between 3 and 18 months of age, sometimes longer. Some people need to be more patient and forget about the winning.
  2. Love those yards. The one thing that does jump out though, is where is the shade and where is the shelter ?
  3. It's the one area that the puppy farmers just can't meet a dog/puppies needs in. They can build the concrete runs, provide a water and food bowl each and chuck them outside for an hour a day but providing breed appropriate socialisation and interaction for both pups and adults, they have not a hope in hell. Code of practice are all good in theory but meaningless unless policed and this raises another problem, how do you decide if a pup/adult has been adequately socialised or that their daily lives are enriched ?
  4. No some poor sucker will buy them off the back of a truck, so to speak. It's a no win situation for potential puppy buyers, either way
  5. I've lost count at the number of times they've been complained about, shut up shop and started all over again with a new family member and prefix.
  6. I was just thinking the same thing. How they still have an ANKC prefix is beyond me and I don't feel sorry for them in the least.
  7. A warning for those travelling through Cowra and Blayney with their dogs, to avoid stopping in town to toilet the dogs if possible. There have been confirmed cases of parvo in both towns. Blayney in particular has had quite a few cases in the last week, both young and old, in town and rural dogs. It's a real shame as we have great leash free facilities and the park was a good place to stop.
  8. Her rear end requires a good flogging.
  9. Ohhhh I have JUST the dog for you. I've thought about ending it's life a couple of times. Ohh and I can deliver :D
  10. For those who didn;t get to see the OP. It basically said " my dog barks too much, should I PTS ? "
  11. Umm no. You should exercise it, put a bark collar on it, work out what the cause of the barking is and try to emilimate it.
  12. I don't know why people get so fixated on a due date. Pups arrive when pups arrive, if the bitch is comfortable, happy and well, then a few days here or there is nothing to worry about. Some breeders have gotten to the point, where they feel they need to control every aspect of the mating, whelping and hit the panic buttons when they think it's not all going to schedule. Know your bitches inside out and leave the rest up to them.
  13. If they haven't died whilst in your care and you've wormed them, then there is very little chance of them passing on anything to other animals. Sacroptic mange would more than likely have reared it's ugly head by this stage, the same for parvo, distemper, corona and kennel cough. Vaccinated and given 10-14 days, they will be ready to rehome.
  14. The bitch will let the dog when she's ready. I let them mate as often as they like, for as long as they like. Never had a bitch turn on a dog or a rapist stud.
  15. Is this the one that someone else supposedly breeds pups under one prefix, then transfers the pups to the next bloke ( who has his own prefix ), who then becomes responsible for providing the new owners with the paperwork ?
  16. Kelpie babies aren't tall and skinny, at 8-10 weeks they are quite compact.
  17. Kelpie cross. Brindle is also a very common coat colour in many cross breeds, it's doesn't necessarily reflect any SBT heritage, although there may be some in this pup. Really the dog could be anything.
  18. My Staffords will play with any Pointer or Whippet that comes along. They are not so into other Staffords, outside of their own pack. My Pointers played with anyone and anything. The Whippets love anything that's black and looks like an SBT, not so fussed on their own kind and love big white dogs ( with short coats ). The Whippets do "disinterested" very well.
  19. Are you sure it's an SBT cross ? Looks more like a Kelpie cross. The long coat, ears and head shape are a long way from an SBT.
  20. Here's a extract from both of the breed standards, which might help to explain why an answer is hard to give The RR The SBT
  21. Breeds are bred to be predictable, there's a desired type, temperament and characteristics for all of them. That is what makes them "breeds" , otherwise we'd just have generic dog. If you'd come on the forum and said " I have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier ( or any breed ), what can I expect " then you could be given a more precise answer. You have a cross bred, it may or may not be an SBT cross, it could have a fraction RR in it, it could have any number of breeds in the mix. It might take after the SBT to a certain degree, it could look like an SBT and act like an RR or it's temperament may be totally different from either.
  22. ;) being a cross bred, he could grow large, he could have a temperament that is unlike either of the breeds, who knows, there's no predicting what a cross bred will do. Take him to obedience, put in lots of time socialising him, raise him right and you can look forward to life with a good canine citizen and well adjusted family member.
  23. If I have enough for a load I'll wash it by itself, other wise I just chuck it in with the rest of the bedding The only reason I keep it seperate, is because it dries so much faster than other bedding, either in the dryer or on the line.
  24. Some other things to check out when buying an Amstaff ( or any breed, but Bull Breeds more so because of BSL ) is that they come with limit registration papers for a pet and if you wish to show and potentially breed, that they have main registration papers. Run a mile and run as fast as you can from anyone who states " with or without papers " and gives you the option of buying a puppy without them, or charges you more to have papers for your pupppy. Your new puppy should also be microchipped and that chip must correspond with the number on your ANKC pedigree papers. Take a good look at any show wins or claims to champions in the lines. You'll find many are still riding on a win or two they had ten years ago or a champion in the lines, that is so far back, it's off the first page of the pedigree. Not every dog or bitch is a champion and not every champion is worthy of being bred from but your breeder should be actively participating in conformation , obedience, agility or have produced puppies that have excelled. Don't buy into the " big is best " , it's not and breeders that talk about their "huge dogs" " massive bitches" " massive heads" " big chunky heads" etc, have no idea about the breed or the breed standard. The best breeders are the one's who care about the breed type, the temperament, how sound the pups are , they health test the parents and their dogs and bitches are more than a status symbol on the end of a lead. Do some research and the idiots will stanbd out like the proverbial dogs balls.
