  1. Pax's place, at least you know they will get the care and attention you want them to have. Not stand in a concrete pen 24/7 and have the crap hosed out from underneath them.
  2. You're all heart and thanks for understanding
  3. I'm still waiting for the refund of the Valentines Ferretadoodles, which incidently turned out to be two feral Ferrets gaffa taped to a heart shaped cardboard cut out. My dearly beloved was bitten upon opening and did not find them at all romantic. My niece is happy with her Easter present. Although my sister and I are no longer on speaking terms. It appears the saying " breed like rabbits ", is appropriate to the two bundles of supposedly desexed joy that I had delivered to their home. The gift that keeps in giving, it certainly is. Mum is less than impressed, with her Mothers Day gift. I paid $3000 for the fluff ball and it will not allow her into the back yard. Thankfully she has an internal laundry with a window and can toss food into the yard and squirt it with the hose for a drink. Mum feels guilty and is keeping the pup, as she feels like she's let him or her down ( we can't get close enough to tell ). Dad split years ago, so I think I'll pass on the Fathers Day catalogue. However, I strongly suggest those who dislike their family and want to give them the gift from hell, select from your current range catalogue. It's awesome, you can shop on line, hand over the credit card details and have their bundle of life ruining joy delivered in two days. It's been a displeasure doing business with you.
  4. I start training mine from the time they can stand and learn to stack but we've never been to formal lessons with our dogs. I'm teaching a lady how to show her baby puppy who is 9 weeks old, the lessons are short and informal, with some homework to do each week. It's all about keeping the puppy happy, getting the puppy to focus on her handler. I would be very reluctant to drag a baby off to any kind of formal lessons, pups can tire in a few minutes, they get bored and you risk them going sour. ETA: send your son off to show training with an older dog , so he can practice. Take it easy with the puppy
  5. Forget about going to the vet. The baby canines will be have fallen out anywhere from 3/4/5 months and they aren't going to cause any issues. The head will be growing and the canines become smaller in comparison to the head size. You'd just be wasting your money at the vet and if you get one of those over zealous vets who have no idea about Bull Breeds and how their heads develop, you'll subject a pup to a GA and removal of the canines for no reason. What you need to do is stay in touch with the breeder and either have them look at the pup as they adult canines come through, or someone that they trust and knows what they are looking at. They bottom canines may come through and slot correctly into place, they may not. Inverted canines usually do not cause any issues, the only time they are a problem, is if they are digging into the roof of the mouth, in which case they are ground down to shorten them and relieve any discomfort. ETA: baby canines are often removed if the adults are beginning to emerge and the babies have not yet fallen out. Retained baby canines can have an impact on the where the adult teeth end up.
  6. I'm about to cancel my accommodation this morning, as I can't attend. There will be a twin room available at the Carlton Cafe
  7. I can understand that buyers want to purchase a show potential puppy and if it doesn't come up to scratch, that they may want to return the pup or rehome with breeder approval. However, they'd never be getting another one off me if they were so quick to ditch it, at an age where it's really not the time to be making such decisions ( unless undershot ) and I didn't have the chance to say stick with it for another 12 months or pack it in now and get another.
  8. It only needs to happen once. Bites to the legs are a concern. The bites to the face and ears are just self defence usually. That's how you know your Staffords are serious, when they take a leg out, they NEVER get run with the same dog or bitch again. I run 4 bitches together, without issues. I have always run my girls and boys together, my only concerns are when the bitches are coming off season and they haven't been mated, they can get narky with one another. For that week, they are seperated as it's not worth the risk.
  9. I like to live dangerously and just assume that the Staffords will clash with the Whippets every week LOL Knowing the numbers doesn't seem to help, as I always end up with one judge going slower than the other, even when the numbers look good .
  10. I'm of the opinion if the group judge thinks your dog is good enough to award and send through to GS and the breeder is doing GS, it's fine.
  11. The window in the side = cut the hole in the side about an inch smaller than the perspex, then drill into the perspex , drill matching holes in the box and use small nut and bolts to hold it in place
  12. I've improved my box over time and remade it several times now. The main thing with our location is maintaining the warmth. I've now got a perspex lid so the heat stays in and I can see in. It's awesome
  13. thankfully there are still people like you around, who talk some sense
  14. it's the cheap nasty lino from Bunnings LOL
  15. The lino is that rough textured stuff, I've not found that slippery. The tiles are , so they are covered up. I limit the newspaper to one corner as I;ve found that slippery too. My guys head outside to play, at about 4 weeks. They are on the cement, grass and into the dirt at that age.
  16. One Princess on the bed, the others in crates. I usually have older "free range" dogs, the younger one's get locked up, so they cannot wreck the place LOL Mine sleep indoors ( kennel runs were in the garage attached to the house ) so that I know they are silent at night and I never disturb the neighbours.
  17. A bit off topic, but it's really interesting to see how the different breeds are cared for.
  18. I'm happy to share. They were whelped in the loungeroom. The floor is tiled and then has a full sheet of lino placed on top of that, for easy cleaning and disinfecting. The whelping box is covered and has a thick drop down plastic sheet for winter pups and the box is heated with a lamp ( that's an old box and I'm always building new improved models ) I spend the first few weeks of the pups life sleeping on the lounge and making sure that my bitch is happy and the pups are thriving. There is a puppy pen that surrounds the box, so the bitch can come and go from the pups and have her own space, I keep it screened off for the first few days while the bitch settles and when she indicates she's happy to have the other dogs standing at the pen and looking in, I take the screening down. If the bitch decides that they are welcome in the pen and box, I will let the calmer dogs in, it's entirely up to her. The area I use is by a large window, I make full use of the natural light, as do the pups when they venture from the box. It's hard to put down everything that you do whilst having a litter on the ground, but phone me when I have a litter and I can pretty much guarantee that I'm sitting in the bottom of that whelping box ( in the warm LOL ) just talking to the bitch and looking at and handling the pups. I spend hours in there, I get to know the pups inside out from day one and the most rewarding part is the bond I develop with the pups and how well I get to know their individual personailities and quirks. The better you know your pups, the more informed you are as a breeder when it comes to matching new owners with a puppy. They are exposed to my daughter, every household noise, visitors, the other dogs and what goes on in the street.
  19. Nope. They want a puppy.... they think it will be cool to have the puppy and the baby to grow up together. That doesn't happen if the baby is indoors and the puppy outdoors.
  20. It's a topic about the image of the Amstaff and what some breeders are doing, that potentially paints the breed in a bad light. There's nothing more damaging to the image of the Amstaff than to be referred to as a pit bull. When it comes to BSL, the Amstaff needs place as much distance between itself and the PB as possible and that includes ditching all of the hanger-on-ers that aren't Amstaffs but have owners that like to refer to them as such, when it suits them. APBT can't have it both ways. He either owns an APBT or her doesn't and he needn't worry about Amstaff people thinking or referring to their dogs as PB's, most are running in the opposite direction , as fast as they can.
  21. yeah right. I wonder what all of the Amercian Pit Bull owners have their dogs registered and chipped as ? certainly not APBT
  22. Just reading that again and it's no wonder that so many breeders won't give newbies a go. They get a puppy that has potential and then pack it in at the first hurdle.
