  1. if she's eating mince and isn't dehydrated, I'd stop forcing the milk on her and just give her free access to water and pop some milk down four or so times a day.
  2. Get rid of the divetalac, it's horrendous and I've never had pups that have consumed it willingly. Try goats milk, veanavite or animalac. You might also have better success with scrapping any mush that you are trying to prepare and going human grade mince. Offer some fresh human grade raw, I've never seen normal puppies refuse that.
  3. I thought my neighbours were trying to poison my dogs once with bread rolls. Turns out that someone in the suburb was feeding the birds and they'd stop off to eat their roll in my big trees. They obviously didn't like rolls very much, were full or just plain clumsy as my dogs got a feed every afternoon at 4pm.
  4. Give him something to do and some structure in his life. Take him for regular walks, swims and play with him as though nothing has happened.
  5. Hope you get a great entry. :) It's hard to believe that Dianne has been gone almost six years
  6. Bring it on, I hope they cripple the RSPCA, shame more cannot afford to tie them up legally.
  7. It's a civil matter and the cops won't be interested. You could try small claims or go around there and ask for your money or take the $1000 you and ask them would they like to give you the pup for a full refund.
  8. I know I know Eight bowls out, so they can drag their meat from them and eat it just as they are doing now . I swear I fed the mince out of a bowl
  9. many comment on anything and everything telling people what they want to hear. Their entries are good but what they say online is not necessarily what they do in the ring.
  10. Perhaps it varies by breed, but I think this is a gross exaggeration. When I lived in WA I registered around 100 pups. I was entirely consistent. If people wanted main register, I agreed to switch after the dog or bitch was evaluated at 1 year. If hips and elbows were above breed average and eye tests ok, and the dog didn't look awful, I would grant main register. Only TWO of the pups I sold, one bitch and one dog, were switched to Main, and the dog was only used at stud twice. The bitch went on to establish a line that some would call BYB pups -- no showing, but not bad looking dogs and decent healthy pets -- I have no problem with that. When I bred my first litter, in 2005, pedigree Labrador pups were going for $600 in the Perth metro area. Now they are going for $1800. This would not be happening if a large number of people were trying to recoup the purchase price. If there's a choice between retaining genetic diversity, by breeding from stock who are not the type-of-the-year or whose owners are not interested in showing, or restricting breeding to the creme de la creme, I know where I'm going to cast my vote. p.s. I had more problems in the opposite direction. There were a few dogs I would have loved to see the owners keep entire so they might have been used at stud. But no, most puppy buyers want to desex. Of course it was an exaggeration!! However, if you breed a breed beloved of puppy farmerS, many of the enquiries are not from people wanting pets, they are from people wanting to breed, but they don't want to tell you that, nor do they want you to mentor them; they want to continue their dodgy ways, with the pup you sold them and they wanted the papers because they can get more for the pups if they are registered. There was a lovely lady with a little boy going around looking for a pet for him. She bought 7 altogether. What a lucky little boy he is. Are you sure none of your Labradors are not in dodgy breeding establishments, Sandgrubber? How do you know? I haven't got a problem with genuine people buying my pups and breeding them. Sadly, there are very few genuine people out there wanting to breed to improve the breed. I received 86 emails for the last litter I advertised, all seeking pets (or so they said). When I said the pups were not for breeding, the interest reduced drastically. I don't think selling a pup to a 200 dog puppy farm does anything to widen the gene pool. Nor does allowing them to end up in the hands of someone who breeds unregistered pets. Any value the animal may have had in regards to the contribution to the gene pool is lost forever. The gene pools of many breeds have been raped by the BYBer and puppy farmer, who essentially contribute nothing. Just as bad are those ANKC breeders who produce pets with the attitude of near enough is good enough, so long as it looks like an ok example of the breed.
  11. I had it with a Border Collie. Obviously there at the time of arrival, the dog sucked them up and they basically never came back down. It can and does happen and even if they did come back it's not a dog to keep and breed from.
  12. Having dealt with the death of a pet and having a child, I think your are better off preparing them stating the obvious that when an animal or person is very sick, sometimes their heart stops and they die. The first time we explained this Poodie thought that their heart broke and they couldn't love anymore. We kept it very simple, your heart stops and you don't breathe and that's when you die. Books are OK but they rely on the kids being able to either read it for themselves or comprehend what you are reading. I reckon deal with the "death" part and what death is first, don't make it out to be anything other than something that physically happens to all people and animals. The emotions that come with loss and grief are where the books about feeling sad and loss are helpful.
  13. There is no one even half decent in this area. The best bet is K9 and taking the drive to Kurrajong.
  14. My pups are started on raw when they are ready and before they leave home they are eating chicken necks, wings if they can chew them up and they are well on the way to consuming raw meaty bones of all kinds. My last litter was dragging a chicken carcass around the whelping box at three weeks. They couldn't eat it then but certainly could when they left for their new homes. By introducing them early and raw meaty bones becoming the rule rather than the exception, they all eat nicely, chew well and the new owners don't have to worry about them inhaling their food.
  15. I don't see the point in putting time and energy into animals that fail tho thrive on their own. It's easy to get attached but surely in the best interests of "dogs" as a whole it's best to let the weak one's go.
  16. I PTS immediately any pups with palate issue or hare lips. I would euth now and focus on the healthy thriving puppy
  17. The only one's this will hurt are the breeders that do care about their lines and their pups and where they end up. The puppy farmers will once again rub their hands together and simply put them all on main register as many of them already do. They naturally sell entire show quality litters and it's not going to make an ounce of difference to them. You breed it, you put in the hard yards, you have every right to determine where the pups should end up and if you want them to be bred from or not. At least there's the option of tubal ligation and vasectomy and the those options are quickly gaining popularity.
  18. If they're calm and not causing a problem what's the issue? I don't want to see a dog or be near a dog when I'm dining out. The issue is people cant and won't control them and think it's fine for them to approach others, block walk ways, sniff and lick and eat off the café plates. If you want to dine with your dog do it at home or feel free to eat in the leash free or somewhere else that dogs are permitted. I also don't want to ride next to one on public transport, share a hotel room or a plane trip. I also do not buy into the dogs v kids garbage that's trotted out, for the simple fact that children are not dogs. You've never come across a well-behaved dog at a cafe WIW? I find that surprising. Also, I hope you never plan on moving outside of Australia (especially to Europe or the US), you'd absolutely hate it  Are the Europeans any better at keeping their dogs on leash where required ? can they manage to clean up their dog crap ? do they abide by the regulations where dogs are not permitted ? Because quite frankly Australians don't do very well, they seem to think that their dog has the right to dine with them, can be taken into a supermarket shoved down their shirt or held in their arms, that they can take it to the beach regardless off the applicable shire laws. How does Europe look ? is it littered with dogs shit ? because there's plenty of it all around this country. I see dogs in children's playgrounds and at schools in NSW despite it being illegal. Just because I think my dog is well behaved and not disturbing anyone, it doesn't give me the right to ignore applicable legislation and by-laws and the same applies to every other dog owner.

  20. Nope it's a pet hate of mine and I despise people that bring their bloody animals to cafe's etc. Leave them at home.
  21. Don't tell Sess that, she's a PrinSess
  22. Personally I hate the term but probably because it appears to go hand in hand with the average numpty that knows stuff all about canine behaviour, nutrition and exercise requirements. I couldn't care less what people refer to their dogs as, so long as they understand what a dog needs to be happy, healthy and well adjusted.
