  1. When I see these sorts of ads I take them down if they're not inside a window. I'm sweating on someone pullling me up on it so I can triumphantly inform them that backyard breeding is illegal in the ACT. But this policy is honoured more in the breach than in the observance, alas. Since when ?
  2. You can swab at any age to either test for ataxia or to " clear by birth " Hip and elbows are done after 12 months of age. Your ACES eye cert should be done on a regular basis every couple of years.
  3. May they be blessed with 3am c-sections on public holidays...
  4. Yep, we searched for a chip for over half an hour with several scanners. We know that it was working at the time the bitch was scanned for a DNA swab and then it couldn't be found a few months later.
  5. Hmmmm, I can predict where this one is heading
  6. They should be posted, NSW posts numbers back unless something happens and the sec can't get them in the mail ETA: we're heading off for a weekend. I need a break
  7. Let's reverse it, if you owned a stud dog would you let someone who has upto three litters a year, who does not have a grasp on the breed standard, who believes that dogs are stock and and are there to be bred, use your stud dog.
  8. And what happens when you don't pay for the executive suite, the play time and the grooming time ? Yep, they may well be "safe and sound" in their kennel, but you can pretty much guarantee they will be standing in the same pen for the duration of their stay and will have the crap hosed out from around them. P stampy, I know of people that travel hours to pop their dogs into certain kennels, where the level of exercise and care is guaranteed.
  9. the dogs wouldn't be significantly less healthy or of the typical poor quality that the vast majority of blue breeders are pumping out, if the breeders actually thought about their goals, knew what they were doing and considered the breeding beyond colour.
  10. dilution allopecia is just that and a "blue" is a dilute
  11. Moral of the story, if your dog barks, shoot your neighbour, you'll do less time for that.
  12. Here's a review that I found, it's not written by me but sums up what I've experienced pretty well. It's not included the sound proof area for the noisy dogs, that is basically a bricked in, blacked out cave with no natural light. Your dog should recieve at least an hour of exercise each day. Take a good look around any boarding kennel and pay particular attention to the number of exercise runs they have. The one that can house a couple of hundred dogs and has just a couple of runs, cannot give each individual dog an hour a week, let alone an hour a day.
  13. Vari Kennels are the one's you are thinking off. They are lighter than most crate but do not fold down. They have their advantages in that you can chuck stuff in them and walk the dog at the same time. You'd want the large ( not sure what the name of it is ) it's the next one up from the PP40. You can just squeeze a Stafford in a 40 but your man will want the bigger one.
  14. Congratulations on your new puppy, I sincerely hope he is free of health issues as pet puppies are as important as show puppies, neither deserve to suffer because of colour. Buyers don't deserve second rate pups, just because they are purchasing a pet. Not every puppy is perfect but they should all come from matings where the breeder considers the best interests of the breed, not $$$ and colour.
  15. Papers aside, the breeders should also be doing health tests on the parents and providing proof. Vaccinating, worming and microchipping, while very commendable are often done by backyard breeders to establish "authenticity" as a breeder when they are anything but. Hips and elbow scores, eye tests, DNA testing etc, these are the tests that ethical breeders carry out on their breeding stock to ensure they aren't generating inheritable defects. Also, 12 weeks is a little old for a puppy to be going to it's new home. They should be pretty weel established with their new family and getting out and about and being socialised by that age. Crap, there are breeders more than capable of socialising pups and 12 weeks is not too old to be leaving home. I'm sure there are plenty of breeders capable, but what's the advantage of keeping a puppy destined to be a pet until 12 weeks of age? Desexing Toy breeds that are very small are often better off until they grown a little Vaccination protocol ( some choose one vacc at 12 weeks ) and choosing an option that is in the best interests of the puppy
  16. I feel for the dog. A younger Shiba might be able to fend for itself for a while but an 11 year old will be Coyote food. I cannot imagine how the poor owner feels .

  18. Perhaps the owner should have thought about and looked into any restrictions before purchasing the property. Only an idiot would spend the money, knowing that they have a pet to consider and then buy something not suitable. The dog actually looks in pretty good condition and he doesn't need to lose any weight.
  19. Nope. If they were BYBer then it's unlikely they'd be financial with a CC and besides that, I'm a firm believer in choosing stud dogs that are in loving homes and are owned by people with ethics that aren't in the gutter. I wouldn;t buy a pup from them, so I certainly wouldn;t hand over $$ and support their activities with a stud fee.
  20. It doesn't worry me and I'd feed horse to the dogs but it doesn't really suit my style of feeding, as I feed all meat on the bone. The majority of horse bones are large and are therefor not suitable. I choose to feed roo, lamb and rabbit instead.
  21. I have seperate yards but I make sure that when the entire dogs are outside, the bitch in season isn't.
  22. lol I wasnt going to steal megz's thunder I'm allowed and so's Ash
