Looking For A High Quality Australian Kibble
WreckitWhippet replied to illusionzzz's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Looking at the first ingredients listsed, I wouldn't touch it Rice, Australian lamb, corn gluten meal, tallow, -
I'm assuming that you are cooking for flavour/variety and to top up their dry ? I'd leave all pasta/rice and grains out of the cooked food and make it simply meat and veg. The pasta and rice is just fillers that they don't need. Mine are fed all raw but there have been times when I've cooked for the dogs in the past and have included things like my carrot and potato peels in the stew, along with extra veg and the meats.

That pretty much sums it up for me too.

not all microchips are found. Tell me about it. We went through several scanners and half an hour looking for a chip. It was there when the bitch was scanned for a DNA swab but not at a later date.

People give out the same " generic" advice because in most states it's the law and it's also the best way to ensure that an owner can be reuinted with their missing pet. ETA: you are not going to miss your pet if you are walking down the rows in the pound looking for it and there's not going to be an issues of the animal being misidentified or a breakdown in communication between the pound, yourself or the person who has your dog in their back yard.

Would you agree that a good middle ground would be for people to leave their details with the pound (maybe along with a picture if available (that can be emailed) and house the dog (again, if possible) themselves? This way, there is no fear of the dog being euth'd if the owner doesn't show, and if they do, they can go pick up the dog. What do you think? I assume that your dogs are microchipped, so this problem would most likely not occur with you. Also, looking a bit scruffy is a little different than being pregnant so young. I hear what you're saying, people should follow the rules, but there are ways that you can follow the rules and not risk euthanisation. I think that's treading on dangerous ground and I certainly wouldn't want any of my dogs housed in someone's back yard. The pound is secure and there is little chance of escape. There is also the issue of members of the public taking in dogs, when their temperaments are unknown. They could pose a danger to their own animals and their family. They also risk the introduction of disease and parasites into their yards and homes.

We don't have the right to pick and choose what we think is the "right" thing for an animal and ignore legislation in the process. It's there for a reason and it's there to protect the rights of an owner, who DOES want to be reunited with a lost pet. Heaven help me if I lost one of my Whippet girls, she'd find the nearest mud puddle and get herself looking and smelling pretty and in less than a day she can drop weight and look like no one owns her. I'd never get her back if she was subjected to the "common sense and greater good " attutide , that some have here. I doubt I'd get one of my other girls back either, she looks like a bit of a wreck at the moment, she's skinny, is suffering hair loss and of course deserves to be kept in someone's back yard too, as clearly I'd be judged an irrepsonsible owner. People avoid handing in dogs to pounds for fear that they might be euth'd but there just might be an owner looking for a missing dog too.

More assumptions about the age and chipping. How long has QLD had mandatory chipping now ?
-
It happens time and again, someone finds a stray, assumes it's not been cared for, has an irresponsible owner and decides to keep it, surrender it to a rescue or otherwise dispose of a dog that is not legally theirs. Call the pound, follow the appropriate legislation ( that will allow the dog to be reunited with it's owner ) and when the time is up, THEN decisions can be made about the bitch and her future. It may be that the council takes details and the time can be served in someone's home or they may request that she be impounded. If impounding is what is required, then someone can put their name on her and pick her up when her time is up. What you do not do is find a stray, keep it in your own yard, ship it across the country or illegally surrender it to a rescue, because you think it might be better off.

Rspca Proposals For A Mandatory Code For Puppy Farmers.
WreckitWhippet replied to minky's topic in In The News
Why should those of us who do the right thing, who have never had a dog they've bred end up at a pound, who clean up after others, be slugged with extra controls, licenses and $$$. Every year it gets harder and harder to breed a litter. The CC rules change, councils get tougher, the RSPCA call for more blood. Many have already walked away, many more will continue to do so and it won;t be the BYBers and the puppy farmers you're saying goodbye to, it will be more of the ethical registered breeders, who feel they can no longer make choices in the best interests of their animals and are dictated to by people ( the RSPCA, Pollies and the go-gooders ) who have never bred a litter in their life. It's hard work breeding and raising quality pups, it takes a lot of time and effort to do it properly and all this proposed garbage, just takes away from that. -
One day blends into the next when it's three days LOL I can remember the Junior Chi all three days in General Specials, my Stafford was fascinated and wanted to play.
-
where is their exposure to natural light going to come from ?
-
I think it was the Affen all three days. Pug RU to it Monday, the other days I can't remember.
-
Since when has penalising those who do the right thing and/or happen to have bitches that are excellent producers ( something we should all be striving for ) been the way to eliminate the puppy farmers ?
-
Better to save the money and buy one from an ethical registered breeder, who will be there to support you in the years to come.
-
I think the English Springer was BIG all 3 days but I could be wrong.... No you were correct. I think from memory the Yank got RU to it one day, the Golden was RU on Monday and Sunday is escaping me at the moment

Can anyone remember the name of the photographer ? I saw her enough times over the weekend but cannot remember how to spell the name LOL

Council Ranger Threatens To Fine Rescuer Of Lost Dogs
WreckitWhippet replied to SarasMum's topic in In The News
If you find a dog and it doesn't have a contact number on a tag or collar, then you take it to the pound, regardless of what you think of the process. The pound is the first port of call, they also have an environment where there is little to no chance of escaping or injuring someone that is attempting to care for them while they find the owner. If my dogs escaped, I would prefer that they were taken straight to the pound, as that is where I would go first. I'd pay the fines and thank my lucky stars that they were there and not sitting in someone's back yard, where it makes them harder to locate. -
http://www.cccq.org.au/News.aspx?id=240 Looks like Dogs QLD put in the hard yards and have possibly secured the future for the ANKC registered dogs.

Insert New Regulation 3.3.9 3.3.9 Pregnant Bitches
WreckitWhippet replied to SwaY's topic in General Dog Discussion
That is insane. For one, a pregnant bitch is "pregnant" not ill. I will often show them until I think they look too big and not at their best. As for the ten weeks, who in the hell made that line in the sand ? There are some bitches that never recover from a litter and other who bounce back the day they shut the milk bar down. I've had one win a RUBIS ( was only an open ) the weekend her pups left home. She turned off the milk supply when she was ready and looked a million dollars. Who is to say she wasn't fit enough or looked the part. -
If the owner agrees to let the breeder use the dog, then the breeder should pay for any and all relevant health testing, the collection and also a stud fee. Unless of course the breeder gives the new owner the puppy, in return for a later collection.
-
My OH would keep a couple of them ( if he wanted to ) and the others would go back to their breeders and they could keep or rehome them. I've been entrusted by a couple of people ( in the event of their death ) to look after and rehome their dogs, as I see fit. It's not a nice thought and I hope I never have to but they know that I will do the right thing by the dogs.
