  1. Pro Plan contains soybean and corn gluten meal and grains , it's hardly a substitute for Evo
  2. Since when have Afghans and the like been a major problem and contributors to the bite stats in this country ?
  3. It doesn't mean friendly either. Do we have some objection to friendly dogs in some breeds? Do you seriously expect that every breed of dog greets people they do not know , slobbering and with their tail wagging ? I've spent plenty of time with dogs that according to their breed standard should be "aloof". They certainly haven't taken the arm off or threatened someone that's approached them. Aloof means that they simply don't give a toss, it does not mean they are timid , aggressive or otherwise unbalanced. The arguement of changing the breed standard just doesn't wash with me, given the calls to add such breeds as the Staffordshire Bull Terrier to the list. It makes no sense when the SBT has written into it's standard and requires a dog that is highly intelligent and affectionate. You are focusing on the word "aloof" as if it was written to mean killer
  4. Try not feeding him for a day and give him a chicken wing , carcass, a 1/4 of a rabbit or soemthing along those lines. If he's hungry, he'll eat it and give his teeth and jaws a work out in the process. Pig ears and all that rawhide stuff is horrid
  5. That's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the RSPCA being incompetent
  6. Has anyone got on hand a list of the ingredients in the fish based EP ? Cheers
  7. What a ridiculous thing to say. Show us yer facts, Max! Rozzies dogs are a prime example of how they've killed and injured dogs in their possession. Judy Gard also comes to mind, when they marched in with their steel caps on and took well cared for house dogs out of their loving environment and shoved them in kennels. They killed Clifford when he was no longer usefull to them.
  8. it makes no sense, considering that when breeds are mentioned as "dangerous" and that they warrant inclusion on the list, some of the words in the standards used for them include high spirited, faithfull, placid, devoted, fond of children, affectionate and totally reliable
  9. what merit ? they are on the whole hopeless and incompetent. Maybe that comes from having their fingers in too many pies.
  10. I always go to the chiro first, as 9 times out of ten they find the problem and either fix it or send me back to the vet if they can't. Most trips to the vet result in a course of anti-inflams and a rest for a week and see what happens.
  11. I can guarantee as soon as I start to pick up poo, that Brett has to do one LOL
  12. Ummm because " aloof" does not mean aggressive. The word "aloof" is found in the breed standard of dogs such as the Afghan, Basenji and the RR, none of which are currently "restricted" or look like being added to the list, as they are ANKC recognised breeds. and the point of your post was ?
  13. I believe there was an issue with guaranteeing the data base beyond a certain amount of time. ML explained it better than I can a couple of time but it was to do with the storage of our data and if it could not be guaranteed, then it wasn't worth going ahead.
  14. Most of my SBT's have come from the one breeder, she's been producing great dogs with awesome temperaments for years. I noticed her dogs at a Speciality and called her. After waiting a couple of years, she gave me one of the bitches, then another and finally the dog that I had wanted. I've now had 4 or her dogs and will have more in the future. She's a wonderful source of support. My Whippets came from a breeder on DOL, they are renowned for producing beautiful Sighthounds and I happened to be in the right place at the right time. I'd go back over and over, if I had the room for more of them. For now it's just the two Whippet ladies but I would love one of their Zoi
  15. If he were mine it would be a trip to the chiro first, then booking him in with a vet who xrays for hip scoring on a regular basis ( one that breeders recommend ) and then send them off to Dr Wyburn to be read.
  16. I don't see how they can shift the blame to councils or blame the exisiting legislation. If an RSPCA inspector walks into a puppy farm or anyone's house for that matter and finds dogs knee deep in shit, in need of medical attention, malnourished etc, then they have the power to act. They can issue notices stipulating that x y or z be rectified and a time frame in which to comply. How is this not enough to improve the conditions in which the dogs live and breed ? Ok, it doesn't shut a farm down straight away, but you know if a puppy farmer has to lift their game and are subject to inspection and follow up, that it gets harder and more costly for them to operate.
  17. Yep. Two of my dogs contracted KC earlier this year. The first thing I did was quarantine every dog in the kennel and then let friends and fellow breeders know about it. We were fortunate that it was a localised outbreak and we'd contracted it shortly after a triple show and not before. None of my friends dogs were infected. KC is not usually cause for major concern, but it's something that I take seriously as it can be very nasty for older dogs and especially young babies.
  18. The RSPCA claim they are about "prevention of cruelty to animals ", hell it's even included in their name, yet they do very little about it. Cynical, I dunno... more like sick of their media spin and inaction
  19. BINGO! That is exactly what my thoughts are. So much blabber and little action. Just get on with the business of doing something constructive, they have the power to end the suffering esp if they have the proof to substantiate their allegations so what the heck? DO IT ! Of course they have the power to end suffering but naturally that doesn't allow them to claim the front page of newspapers and current affair shows. Then you get the other end of the RSPCA stick, where they march in to people's homes with their steel cap boots on, seize dogs and ruin people's lives, where they could have issued notices ( and assisted ) and given owners the chance to improve conditions or fix problems.
  20. I really wonder about the RSPCA and just how serious they are about shutting puppy farmers down. They appear to do nothing until the dogs are in desperate need , when it should be all about "prevention of cruelty" They have the ability to walk into average Joe's home and issue a notice, if they feel that a dogs needs a not being met, so how come they allow puppy farm dogs to stand in their own filth, day in day out , amongst other things ?
  21. either safely contain them away from the dogs or desex.
  22. There's nothing worse than that sinking feeling. It sucks, having put in all of the effort to raise them and have a pup ready to leave for it's new home, then have something happen to it. I'm sure the new family is heart broken, but hopefully they understand that accidents can happen. I'm sure you'll take care of them
