I guess we can talk about him now, given he's been charged, he's unlikely to be threatening to sue anyone, any time soon.

Quantities Of Dry + Raw For Puppies
WreckitWhippet replied to Illaroo's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It depends on his condition and how old he really is, as to the amount that you'd feed. Going by the breed mix and if he's in a reasonable condition then maybe half a cup of dry to start with, four times a day. Three meals will be sufficient if he's in good condition and healthy. You'll really need to wing it, feed a little bit and frequently so as not to upset his stomach. You can't go wrong with chicken wings and chicken necks, again it would depend on the size and condition of the pup. I'd introduce a raw neck or one wing from day one, see how the pup tolerates them and then make a raw meal a day of 2-4 wings and 3-8 necks, depending on their size too. There's no hard and fast rules for pups, with the exception of avoiding meat/mince that does not contain bone, as this stuffs up the calcium and phosphorus intake. There's no need to be afraid of feeding raw and stuffing it up. Once your pup is settled and eating without stomach upset you can introduce things like, lamb flap & necks ( whole neck not the rosettes ), roo tail, chicken carcass, wings, necks, turkey wings and necks, rabbit ( cut into 1/4's when small, whole rabbit when your dog is bigger ), duck, whole fish.. the list is endless. Probably the most important thing to do straight away is to vaccinate and also worm the pup. -

Been there and done that too. If you care about your sleep, then breedings not for you LOL I don't envy you at the moment. It's bad enough with 8 newborns that are all doing well and getting their share.

Question About Worming Quantities.
WreckitWhippet replied to Sasha (Alexander)'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
buy 2 x 3kg drontals that will get the dosage right, although it doesn't really matter, better to give a little more than not enough. You can also break up the 10kg tablets. -
There's not point in going to the trouble of getting a letter from a vet. If a judge likes your dog enough, they'll put it up anyway. We've shown the Staffords with plenty of broken teeth and one with a canine removed. If the bite looks correct, then one missing tooth is not going to be an issue, be it canine or incisor If it were a missing pre molar, then you are getting into the territory of judges putting the dog down for it. A judge is also unable to verify the authenticity of any letter you may have in your hand and it's a complete waste of time.

I've got wood chip, coir mulch, lucerne hay and straw around the yard in various places. I just use whatever suits the area

Not Happy With Dogtainers
WreckitWhippet replied to HOGWARTZBOXERS's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've lost count of the number of dogs I've flown having booked through Dogtainers. Probably 30 odd dogs over the years , all over the country. I've only had one problem and that was Qantas cancelled a flight from Sydney to Melbourne at the last minute. The pup arrived 45 minutes later on the next flight. I always book through the Canberra office, they are breeders/exhibitors and take great care with their bookings and the customer service is excellent. -
What a shame, if this person knew so much about the breed and was ticking the right boxes, that they didn;t take that one step further and become a registered breeder. Any good work that they may have done, is wasted and if they were managing to produce quality pup that conformed to the breed standard, they are worthless and have been lost to the breed gene pool.

For Those Interested - Puppy Farm Code Meeting
WreckitWhippet replied to Steve's topic in General Dog Discussion
When Ian Dunbar was out here last he talked a lot about the importance of buying a family pet from someone who had whelped and raised the litter in a family home. It goes against everything I've ever read, been taught or learned along the way, when it comes to raising puppies. I raise mine in the home and give them the absolute best start that I can, as many of the pups are destined to become a member of someone's family. I don't think that I could achieve the well rounded and social pups that I know I can raise now, if I had to do it from a kennel out the back. The reality is that me and my family live in the home and no matter how much time I tried to dedicate to a litter, if I raised them in a kennel, I would never be able to replicate the experience that they have in the home. -

"substandard conditions " what exactly does that mean ? I think it will come down to, if your don't have a DA approved kennel set up, then it will be considered substandard. Pups whelped in the safety and comfort of your home, will be a thing of the past. Just wait until we start getting pinged for whelping and raising them in our spare rooms and loungerooms. The RSPCA won't care, that we provide a safe place for the bitches, close to the family and their pack and that the pups are raised with love n care and are socialised in a way that couldn;t be done from a kennel. -
For those who take their bitches temps and start a couple of weeks out from the due date, has anyone else found that they get a temp drop about a week before the pups actually arrive ? I've plotted temps for every bitch over the years and have found that every one of them has had a dip under 37 about a week before they whelp. It doesn't stay down for more than half a day. If I went by my temp charts and what I've observed, I would feel confident in predicting a bitch will whelp 6-7 days after the first drop. Anyone else noticed this and does it vary between breeds ?

Question For Breeders About Pet Stores.
WreckitWhippet replied to lovemesideways's topic in General Dog Discussion
I can't think of any circumstance where it would be ethical to hand over any puppy to a pet shop. We have plans in place ( amongst a group of friends/breeders ) where any adults and pups would be taken care of or appropriately rehomed if necessary, in the event of accident of illness. If my house blew up tomorrow, the same would occur. There are no excuses , as far as I;m concerned. No matter how desperate you might get, there are always alternatives to a pet shop. -

It's a lot to read and digest. -
Put lime in the yard, wear a rubber glove and chuck it in all the gardens and on the lawns, then hose it in a bit. For cement/paved areas make up Malawash and water in a weed sprayer and spray the area, spray under the house, around the sides of sheds etc Flea bomb the house Wash all bedding in hot water Bath the dogs It all needs to be done at once. You can lime the yard more than once and now it's raining is a good time. You can also chuck lime under the house and leave it, providing the dogs can't get on it.

It could be a fungal infection. From memory your diet is a good one. It's more likely due to the constant wet conditions that we've been having of late. Dry the feet as often as you can , I'm assuming Apex is an anti fungal ? and if that's the case it should do the job.

I've had all manner of breeds with dew claws removed, from Whippets , Dobe's, Pointers and Pugs. It's common and sure beats an injury

Hire a trap or call a pest control and have them trap it for you and destroyed.

If people don't put their money into investment properties because the returns are not good and they are frequently damaged, then you won't have anywhere to rent. I'd thought about retaining the current house as a rental property but it's much easier just to sell it, then deal with tenants who don't give a toss.

Didn't McGreevy get given the arse a while back ? not before Dogs NSW handed him a substantial amount of our members money though.

The dogs and bitches still run off for BOB and the opposites as the best open etc still needs to be determined. The BOB should not be present in the BIG line up. If the BOB does not get knocked out by the BIG or the RUBIG, then it can go into the class in group line up. -
