  1. He's choked on it, nothing to worry about
  2. GoldenGirl, that's all pie in the sky and none of the canine councils will make a personal call or do such things.
  3. I got one in the box that I could market as a "rare chocolate" but I know which way he too is heading ....
  4. There's going to be some very disappointed buyers if the " rare chocolates " turn out to be brindle
  5. I too think it's tacky but I do appreciate those who advertise their dogs in journals/online etc so you can see what's out there.
  6. Yeahhhhh liver is the new blue... The breed is headed down the toilet, like the blue craze hasn't done enough damage
  7. Awesome, I'm looking forward to it and hopefully I have a dog or two that can take part
  8. Stormie I applaud your practice and it's way of thinking, educating and doing what's best for the clients. I'd be using you guys too , if you were in the area.
  9. Glad I don't bring my dogs to your clinic, making decisions like that for your clients, rather than allowing them to make informed choices.
  10. Since when has dry been more easily digestable than raw ?
  11. Vets and those that manufacture the vaccines accept no responsibility if your dog contracts parvo, even if they have been vaccinated according to the manufacturers schedule.
  12. I couldn't do it. I work part time for a pet supplies, who had animals in the past, currently do not, but are considering adding them again. If this becomes a reality, I will be out the door before anyone can blink. Just keep adding to your skills base and seek work experience in the industry, I know if someone was keen, I'd give them a hand gaining experience.
  13. Groomers that do are few and far between. They might be better off finding a showie that's willing to do it.
  14. Go and collect him or send him privately, it's irrepsonsible and puts other people's dogs and pups at risk, to transport dogs direct from the pound using such companies.
  15. I've watched them do it on TV and it wasn't as bad as I had imagined. Better that than a slow death on the beach
  16. Of course the idea is to encourage people to show, I've lost count of the number of new people that I've helped out and I'm helping a young lady at the moment to train and show her baby puppy. But, you don't encourage people to take dogs with obvious faults, that they've opted to keep as a pet into the ring. If her daughter wants to show , then there are plenty of people who would love the help and the company each weekend. Naturally the correct answer for DOL would have been " sure go ahead and have a wonderful time " . The OP asked for opinions and they now have them.
  17. I can imagine that the reasons are all along similar lines
  18. Have a bit of bloody pride about what you take in the ring.
  19. If I were the breeder I'd be pretty upset if you took a dog with a fault like that into the ring. Especially if they had offered to replace the pup when the issue first came up and you declined, accepting the keep the dog as a pet. Perhaps there's a DOLer who might need a hand on the day.
  20. Rescue on the whole do a wonderful job, but it's simply a clean up job, where some animals are saved. Rescue ( unless they are pro-active in the community and educating ) are not making any difference to the number of dogs being dumped or destroyed. Organisations like PACERS, I can certainly see them making a difference, as they aim to prevent owners who want to keep their pets, from surrendering, rehoming or PTS, due to circumstances beyond their control or when life hits the hard. I'd so no, the message is not getting through to the people that are producing the dogs that for whatever reason find themselves without a home and end up in our pounds and shelters. The message is certainly not getting through to those who believe their pets are disposable. The ethical breeders have always carefully bred and selected the best homes for their puppies and certainly take back their own or assist when things go pear shaped but we still cop an undeserved flogging and are lumped in the same basket as everyone else.
  21. Steve Absolutely and at the end of the day, no matter how low the lows are, there's a little spark that keeps you going. The experience itself is rewarding, so is the learning, watching pups go off to their forever homes, knowing you've done the best you can and hopefully you've got it right and the future of the breed is in that litter. God how I miss Debbie and Di, their experience and their knowledge.
  22. just for that, I'm going to stick around for the next 5 years. You only have yourself to blame that's the spirit
