No calcium during an SBT whelping and just after they are born often results in restless, anxious mothers that kill and eat their own young. The signs in an SBT are easy to spot, they curl up tight in a ball, forget about where the pups are, snap at them, lay on them, react to their squeals by punching holes in them and the list goes on. Calcium Sandoz reduces those signs within about a half an hour. I've had too many phone calls from new breeders and rescuers whelping SBT's crying out for help because the bitches won't settle, the pups are being treated roughly or they've consumed half the litter. Ask any rescuer who has whelped pups what their biggest disaster has been and it will most likely involve an SBT bitch or cross.

Most Staffords don't bother to nest until the last minute. They are always too busy to get in the box and if there's people about, there's always somewhere else to be. Stafford bitches are in general great mothers, providing the owners know what sings to look for and whelp with calcium sanzdoz or troy syrup on hand.

If you are concerned enough to post about it here then call the RSPCA and report it.

What happened to the dog who attacked him and the people who owned it? I fought very hard for a dangerous dog declaration. One dog was PTS and the other remains living at the house and they haven't really learnt their lesson as they still allow it to jump off the back of the ute and walk into the yard off leash. I also made them pay the vet bills. I was considering suing the owner for losses but I'd had enough at that point. I remember you posting about this WW Were you successful at getting the DDD? I am about to take civil action against the owner of the dogs that attacked mine to try and get my money back for some of the vet bills she still owes for. They opted to euth the dog before a DD was enforced. The ranger informed them that he would in a week be issuing an NOI and they put the dog to sleep before that happened. The other dog wasn't considered to have taken part in the attack, although in my mind it did given I sank the boot into it a couple of times and if it was close enough to kick then it was certainly part of an attack. I didn't have any chance, two dogs on one and a muzzled Grey. I couldn't pick him up as he was too heavy and thrashing about trying to escape, all I could do was kick when I had the chance but I had to decide which of the dogs I was kicking and when and I obviously couldn't do enough. If I ever encounter that dog again, I will choke it to death. I don't care how many bites I sustain in the process, I will protect my dogs at all costs. You should have little trouble in getting a court to agree with you but physically getting people to pay up even after a court order can be a long and drawn out process. I fully understand the terror you go through and then the process to try and seek some justice or at least costs covered.

I won't show the rest of it but this is the bruising that my poor dog sustained, the holes in him people can do without

One of my on leash muzzled race dogs was attacked in a suburban street. It ended his career and his chances of being successfully rehomed.

Not had one either touch wood.

Do You Have Lots Of Girl Dogs?
WreckitWhippet replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
That's the down side of bitches who decide they no longer like each other. Dogs posture, carry on and make a lot of noise, bitches are often silent and deadly. I know a bitch that offers little more than a stiffening and twitching her ears, once they've laid back it's too late and whatever she's decided is no longer worthy is on her way to the vets. -

They don't call them bitches for no reason -
Time to find another trainer as quite frankly this person is an idiot. A larger breed puppy should be exercising off leash and playing while it's grows and develops. Obedience and mind games are great. What they need is a tired mind not an exhausted body. Over exercising a developing pup can lead to joint issues. With regards to vacs, the core vacs at 8 and 12 weeks and another at 15 months and titre test form there. Seriously I'd like to know the name of the trainer, they are a fine example of how it should not be done

I usually find Petbarns so called great sale prices to be about the same as what I would ordinarily pay from some of the other local retailers.

Feeding Raw Eggs To Dogs
WreckitWhippet replied to PossumCorner's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I throw raw eggs on the back lawn and the dogs eat them. Sometimes I hard boil them and feed them shell and all but mostly they have them raw a couple of times a week -
when it's not hot contact over the front and side door vents depending on your make of trailer. Dust seals around the doors

If you have the resources to fund and continue this great idea then what's the harm. Just because you are able to bring the cats to the public and allow the general public tome, greet and potentially adopt, doesn't mean that you are going to be any less stringent in the rehoming process.

How Do You Decide?
WreckitWhippet replied to Loreley's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I take dogs from where and when I please. I have no limits with regards to age but they must be Whippets not crosses. I will take dogs from pounds and private surrender, I prefer to prevent dogs from actually reaching the pound system. Rescuers are free to rescue as they see fit when it comes to location and the age of animals they will or won't take. Temperament should be of the upmost consideration. -
Call Quakers Hills Vets (Blair) or if you want a second opinion from someone who doesn't muck around make the trip to Karen Hedberg at North Richmond.

Pens are great too. Every house should have one and it's especially important to train the children to be comfortable in one.
-
I use them all the time. Crate training is the very first thing I do with any pup or foster. Some of my dogs sleep in them at night. I use them to separate dogs if need be. Sometimes I will leave dogs in there on a hot or very cold day. I used them for shows, take them with me when I travel, camp and visit other people. A dog that can sit quietly and happily in a crate is a blessing.
-
not sure where you are located but I would get in touch with a vet that specialises in Greyhounds, there's quite a few around and they don't muck about with tonsils, they take them straight out.
-
we baited the ceiling when we had one. Ended up catching it in a rat trap in the end. It was a huge bastard and used to sit on top of the dog runs.
-
Is that safe while they are so infected though? routinely done with Greyhounds, otherwise the animal remains chronically sick. Id give the AB's a week and have the dog booked in to have them removed.
-
is your vet taking them out ? It's common place with Greyhounds and imporves the quality of a dogs life ten fold
