  1. Things to consider when out on the road, apart from the shocking weather, access to homes, power, water etc are the difficult dogs or those that book and tell you one thing and when you get there you find the "Spoodle" to be the size of a Standard etc. In a salon situation you can rest and elderly dog, pop away one that needs a break and to a certain degree you can rearrange your schedule around what comes in. Out on the road, you are stuck and you have to press on regardless of what the dog really needs, time wise. One difficult or elderly dog and you can quickly find yourself running behind.
  2. I'd charge $100 plus in the salon. Although it really depends on how bad the coat condition is.
  3. Yep and that $1000 they promise you, will look nothing like that by the time you pay them their cut and your running costs. Second hand trailers come up for sale on a regular basis
  4. They are known by the rest of the industry as the untrained shonky's of the dog washing world. Not a franchise I'd be buying in a hurry. ETA: although you get the calls directed to you from your own area. For the 20 plus grand you pay, you would be better off buying your own trailer and setting up your own business. They are then your own clients and should you build up a successfull business and decide to sell later, you can reap the benefits of having done that. You will also need to find someone to train you to wash and groom. If you want to simply wash, then look at an Aussie Pooch. There's a lot more to grooming and mobile grooming has it's added challenges, really for someone starting out, you could easily end up in over your head and not providing a quality grooming service to your clients.
  5. Minors are not permitted to be in charge of a dog at all in NSW, unless they have an adult with them.
  6. You've just experienced a couple of older dogs roughing up a pup and a bit of prey drive. That was not an attack and the fact that your pups has a few scratches says this. Seriously if they'd meant business he'd have been grabbed by the throat or around the stomach and killed before you could do anything about it. I do agree that the dogs should have been on leash or under effective control ( certainly not in the hands of minors ) and the incident should not have been allowed to occur in the first place.
  7. There would have been no need for a poll, if it were my dogs. They'd have killed it in the blink of an eye. Most rat baits have no secondary kill these days, so I wouldn't be worried about that.
  8. I don't think there's anything new in there, when it comes to what some pet food commanies put in their foods and call " ingredients". The cheap nasty dry foods are bad enough but the one's that really freak me out are the so called " prescription diets " , what's in those is horendous and you wouldn;t feed it to a healthy dog , let alone a sick or recovering animal.
  9. I read that as here's " Bretty" and thought noooooooooooooooooooo, don't do it
  10. I can't help either but just thinking about it makes me want to vomit
  11. Forgot to say.. come and visit the Stafford folk here http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...amp;start=20385
  12. Horrible thing to go through. However those dogs weren't out to kill your pup, if they were it would have been dead before you could even get there. Prey drive kicked in when they rumbled your pup and it started squealing as pups do.
  13. I might thread some stuff through one of mine. I use check chains on a few of the dogs. I want to see if it impacts on the ability to check and the quick release that a check chain has. I'm guessing too, that it would muffle the noise.
  14. Thanks. It's not really any further than Wagga, you have a website? umm yes, but given that the other half designs websites and hosts, naturally it's very out of date feel free to email me at [email protected] and I can send you pics, show you relatives etc. ETA: I can get from home to EPIC in three hours
  15. Blayney. The pups had their first visitors today ( other than family and close friends ) and enjoyed being social, so you're more than welcome anytime
  16. What tricks does your dog do ? speak, commando crawl, walk backwards, go around me, drop dead, high five, leave the room. I've taught some many things, others one or two. Why did you teach that trick/those tricks in particular? The vocal one's I teach to speak, I've found they don't talk unless talked too or bark as much. For other's it's been whatever takes my fancy at the time Was it something your dog gravitated naturally toward? For the most part yes. Dogs that have liked to paw me, I've taught to "high five", the barkers to speak etc Did you teach as a pup, or as an older dog? Both adults and puppies. I don't believe in the saying " you can't teach an old dog new tricks.
  17. Oh really? Actually, i spoke to her about going to look at some staffy pups this weekend and she agreed, so we'd probably be up for a look around. I'll send you a PM for the details. Thanks. Does anybody know if that sort of skull defect is common in puppies? She's terrified of it happening again if we do get another puppy. No it's not common and sorry for your loss. Personally, I think that some people need time to mend and for others a new puppy, although it never replaces what has been lost, can help mend a broken heart. If you fancy a drive this way, we have babies at the moment
  18. Yep I paid him for a sitting at Bathurst 2 or 3 years ago, that I am still waiting to get or see the proofs. That reminds me.. are you coming to Bathurst this weekend ? I have a Whippet that I have been unable to get a good pic of. It's a ten man operation and I still can't get one
  19. I almost feel it's a waste of time when he wants to take pics with the judges now. I make sure there's a friend in there doing a pic too.
  20. I'm sorry but that is a public beach that allows access for dogs and their owners, not a dog beach that lets those without a dog grace its shores.
  21. don't hold your breath on a reply from him or photo's to be forthcoming in any hurry
  22. He looks a bit odd to me, but I'd prefer to see the pup out on the grass and moving. The pup could need a trip to the chiro
