  1. We have a towel that is of orange hue. :) I have one side that is a firm reminder of that red dirt, How I kept 3 Pointers and a Whippet clean on that weekend, I will never know. So crap it was, I have vowed never to return
  2. nahh it's a movie that includes driving a two week old baby puppy around in a remote control car.
  3. Watching an bitch decide to take out a front leg, tear that to shreds quicker than you can run across a yard and then go in for the kill, is sobering indeed.
  4. One set of mine still have mud on them from Junee three years ago
  5. They can certainly live together, I have 4 entire bitches and they don't so much as look sideways at one another. They play nicely and enjoy each others company. I think it makes a big difference that my eldest bitch has never been the aggressor or ruled with the iron first. She's as mad as cut snake but is great with the other dogs
  6. you have a big heart RSG, bigger than I. A dog "with a lot of fear and trauma issues, not to mention being diagnosed with pancreatitis and now being treated for stump pyometra" I could never afford it even if I had the emotional capacity. It doesn't worry me, the last one I fell for cost me a lot of money and she was worth every cent.
  7. Not to me personally but with two people that I know well and it ended in tragedy for both. A close friend has a bitch that would kill one of her others if she was allowed to get close enough. She has done some serious damage to two of the other bitches and it was only through very quick actions, that she didn't kill them. They don't call bitches, bitches for no reason. They aren't capable of human emotions but they have long memories, can hold a grudge and appear to save it up for when you least expect it. They can switch from appearing to tolerate each other one second, to killing each other the next. From my own observations many dogs will put on some bravado, puff themselves up and carry own with lip curling, growling and the like. The bitches that I've seen go another, have given far more subtle warming signs and I know one bitch whose only indication she's about to go off , is pricking her ears, followed by laying them. Miss that signal and it's on.
  8. I love the pack pics. There's a real art to get them all to line up and do what you want. Quite often it's more arse than class I've run out of time to get the babies all together, but I have this to remind me and I have to chuck in the portrait of Basil and his brother Bevan. They are the two brindle boys, double trouble n all that
  9. You could do a dried chicken. Use the breasts off a BBQ chook or boil one up. Peel the meat off in thin strips ( most chicken will come apart in strands ), then dry those out.
  10. My sentiments exactly :D I was mortified when Sessy poo'd in the ring at our last show :D I could have died :D ETA: you have a great dog from a great breeder, so go and kick some bum and enjoy yourself.
  11. I sent you a movie of your angel and yep, she's in there making a heap of noise and I reckon you'll have her going forward in no time, if a tug is her reward.
  12. Like Oakway, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. I have a section in my puppy info pack that talks about heart worm and I cannot stress enough to the people purchasing the pups NOT to give them the injection, regardless of what anyone else tells them or how convenient it may appear.
  13. I'd wait until the pups are on the ground and then give them a call, invite them to have a look and offer them a puppy. I think it's a lovely thing for a breeder to do under those circumstances. I'm sure they wouldn't be offended and they can say no if they aren't ready.
  14. add to that, if the OP is considering rehoming one of the dogs, then a professional assessment would also be helpful, so that any potential new owner is informed about the issues they may be taking on.
  15. Keep them seperated at all times. They are close in age, the same sex and bitches. Bitches can and will fight to the death. With help you may get them to a point where you can manage them, but you are going to have to be vigilant for the rest of the bitches lives, cock it up and chances are they will fight again.
  16. It's a fine line between showing a dog and breeding from it....and inevitably greed sets in and dogs that go on to win multiple shows end up being bred. I think that the volume on this video needs to be turned on given the claims that are made.....me thinks that if there was no truth to such claims the blonde lady would be suing for slander !!!! If you are of the belief that dogs with potential health problems should be shown then perhaps it is time for dog associations to allow DESEXED dogs to be shown and, as you know, this is forbidden besides which.....most people that opt to show their dog are breeders, not too many "pet owners" making a point of showing their beloved pet! The reason most breeders show is in the hope of winning coveted ribbons (and in some cases - deservedly) for its prestige and the reputation of being regarded as breeders of "QUALITY" puppies. Moselle, you are really out of touch or have nothing to do with the exhibition of dogs , as neuters can be shown, as of this year they can now start earning points towards their neuter titles. Plenty of dogs and bitches are exhibited, some with BIS wins and they may never be bred from, for whatever reason. Just because you show it, doesn't mean you should or have to breed from it. Recognition as a breeder of "quality" puppies, can come partly from what is seen in the ring, but the true test is the majority that go as pets. I give little or no cred to PDE and it's wise to take it with a grain of salt . I was a reg. breeder not all that long ago and desexed dogs were not shown then, I just assumed that this still applied but as you said....the showing of neutered dogs started this year....by "neutered"....does that apply to male dogs or are speyed females allowed to be shown also? At the time when I was breeding I had contact with quite a fair few reg. breeders of a few different breed of dogs and I never encountered a single one that was showing without breeding.....if times have changed since then.....all the better but I would think that those that show and don't breed would be few and far between. Desexed is the same as "neutered" when it comes to exhibition and it's by no means a new thing. The ability to earn points towards a neuter title is but not the neuter classes themselves. You need to get out a bit more, many people start exhibiting before they consider breeding. Going back to that youtube clip, turn the sound down and those Cavs look just like any other Cav's you see being exhibited and unless the handler pulled the MRI results out of their back pocket and showed the judge, the judge would be none the wiser. The issue is not the exhibition of an animal, but the one's breeding choices and ethics.

  18. Turn the volume down on that youtube video and what you see in that ring are typically active and tail wagging Cav's ( I'll make no judgement on the finer points of movement and conformation ). There was nothing in that movie to indicate to me that those dogs should not have been shown. You can show any dog you like, being affected or a carrier of a disease does not exclude you from a show ring, unless the dog is in a state of ill health where the symptoms prevent it from being exhibited. There is a big jump from showing a dog, to breeding a dog. If you knowingly breed a dog with problems, then that's a whole other ball game, from simply exhibiting it. A judge is judging the dog as it's presented to him or her on the day and that's it
  19. Yes. BCs should be tested for CEA, CL, TNS and hips and elbows. The results of the recent ANKC beed survey after 1/1/2011 all breeding stock born after 1/1/2005 muust be tested and at least 1 parent in each litter registered must be CEA normal (either by DNA or parentage). Thanks, I thought the three were routinely tested for but wasn't sure if anything had changed.
  20. The dogs should not be flying if it's not 100% well. It's certainly irresponsbile to fly an animal that has the runs and could pose a risk to others on the flight, not to mention baggage on board. If a vet is certain that the cause of the Diarrhea, is the AB's, they may be willing to dispense some medication to stop it, otherwise the owner will have to wait until the stomach settles.
  21. As a breeder something that really gets up my nose, is that rescues are prepared to bring pups into this world, that they cannot and will not guarantee the health and temperament of, yet breeders are expected to stand by what they produce. Fair enough when it comes to pups that are already in the pounds or they have been surrendered, but when you as the rescuer make the choice not to spey/abort, then like breeders, you should be held accountable for what you produce.
  22. Never mow the lawn and have dogs and children together. Apart from pups and dogs becoming frightened or excited, you will not hear cries for help and will certainly miss signals from your dog, that it's not happy. I know of quite a few people who have had dogs kill each other whilst they've been mowing and there have been reports of dogs biting children whilst the parents have been mowing.
