It took me a while to find this quote but I think it very relevant with all of the discussion about "type" and what people prefer or like. It's a good reminder for the novice and the seasoned breeder alike. . -

so what is it about the hocks that needs to improve in your opinion to correct all of these GSD's that can't walk properly ? First it was their back legs, now it's their hocks. -

The bitch is very interesting to look at in other photographs in natural light. I'd love to put my hands on her and feel that coat. -

What verification do you have to support that theory, (bolded) WIW? The fact that Dogs NSW aren't worried about it and there are no calls to action. The deal was done a long time ago, way back when and ANKC dogs with corresponding papers and chips were excluded. As I said it's scaremongering and the one in all in attitude is not winning one when it comes to BSL reversal. The Pit Bull people are on their own. -

which one's and by more extreme what do you mean and is it to the detriment of the breed or the individual dog ? From what I've seen of past dogs in the lab breed and dogs in the breed today (talking showlines) the labs tend be much shorter, heavier and chunkier than the dogs of old. Hence they have become more extreme in the description of the standard. But that's just my opinion. you said " like a lot of breeds", do you care to explain which one's and what you feel is now extreme about them and if it's to the detriment of the breed or individual? GSDs and their back legs for example. That is to the detriment of the whole showline. I find that rather interesting as there are numerous being scored at 0/0 in elbow and very low in the hips, so I'm not sure how you think their "back legs" are a detriment to the whole show line. lol, you're joking right? You make me laugh. so just what is the problem and how is it to their detriment ? I would be expecting to see horrendous hip scores and elbow scores if there were such a major problem with construction. Why does their have to be a working line if the showline is able to perform the duty just as well? Oh yeah, they can't because they can't walk properly. That's my piece. You say whatever you feel you need to say. i won't change my mind. have a nice night :) really that's all you have to say on the subject. Hardly worth commenting on if that's your expert opinion and that's all you can come up with. I would have expected a little more from someone in the know. Maybe a few descriptive sentences about what the problems might be when it comes to conformation, perhaps a little anatomical talk. -

It also depends what you define "work" as. For the Labrador it was bred to retrieve game in what could be very cold and harsh conditions. Whilst they now perform other roles such as guide dogs and customs and do a great job, they were not originally bred with the intention to do so. To compare the original role and what some of the dogs do now, is like comparing apples and oranges and to state that the heavier, correct boned and coated dogs are not fit for function is grossly unfair. -

They are a combination of Bull and Terrier however they should be muscular, active and agile. Slight and underdone is just as bad as coarse and unclean, neither are correct. You will find that the top winning kennels have a great blend of bull and terrier and balanced dogs. The best place to look at SBT's is a Specialty where the balanced cream of the crop usually rises to the top. -

I copped it from the general public with the Pointers, especially Clarkie who was super fit and very lean. Get it all the time with the Whippets and had a member of the public refer to my IG as " a poor unfortunate stick creature" -

Yep, she goes on to say it does it on courage and determination alone. Interesting that people think labs should run all day. They were never intended to run all day, they were bred to heel or follow closely behind the master and to retrieve when sent. -

Mary Roslin Williams explains in very clear terms what they Labradors function is, why it is required to be constructed as per the breed standard and what happens when individuals or indeed entire kennels deviate from the standard. It might help some to gain a basic understanding of canine anatomy, read the Labrador standard, look at as many pictures as people can and listen to the Mary Roslin Williams breed lecture, before they pass judgement on the Labrador and what they "think" is correct. -

I got sick of the one in all in attitude from the anti-BSLers, the you'll be next threats and the fact that 10 years down the track it's still all about the APBT. Nothing was learned when it was all cocked up in the beginning, but rather than try a different tact it's the same old same old. The anti-bls folk kept screaming your dog will be next, more breeds will be added to the list, when in NSW it simply wasn't true. -

awesome if you like your Labs with a lack of balance, dippy topline, flat feet, upright shoulders but that's generally what happens when you get one from a BYBer, they aren't bred to the standard -

perhaps there are some that need to look up the definition of "short coupled" and what it means in terms of a dogs construction. You don't get that tucked in loin look in a short coupled dog, you won't see that in a dog that is short coupled, unless it's emaciated.
