  1. Noooooo, I have the bestest dog in the world Her accomplishments in obedience are zero, although she recalls. She's a pain in the arse, but she's fantastic with other dogs. She's a complete fruitloop but everyone loves her I'll send her round so you can train her if you like
  2. My Dog this thread is a real turn off. All the bitching and carrying on about purebreed world gossip, I can understand why people buy from other sources to escape all the bullcrap, incessant whinging and personality conflicts. Who needs to worry about PDE, if the lies about purebreeds in that doco doesn't turn people away, the last few pages will. Several threads on the first page about how to promote pedigree dogs and working party's and then there's this thread. Give yourselves a big round of applause
  3. I have a spray bottle filled with "magic water" , it works a treat LOL and both myself and the dogs can drink it ringside if we get thirsty
  4. Quite likely it's hot and steamy during the day and come night time ( especially later at night ) it's cooled off and is just about the right for zoomies, games, prowling, hunting and the like.
  5. Perhaps it's a more positve experience if you attend shows with reasonably well trained and social puppy/adult
  6. Pretty much the same here too. We scored eight from eight with the last litter and the bitch did all of the work. I checked them over for clefts and hare lips and gave her a hand to get them dry ( winter whelping, even with the lamps on I like to get them dry quickly ) She's worth her weight in gold. I've watched a bitch pick up and drop a pup that appeared stillborn, she got that one started on her own and it thrived. It was a bit roiugh to watch but she knew what she was doing.
  7. 1 longer walk each night. I use the dogs walk as their raod work, it's done at a trot for 5k's , to build muscle. They rest inbetween their exercise, be it walking or swimming or off the bike
  8. There's nothing wrong with Bradley, his brother is Bevan and his little sister Pamela. He should think himself lucky, he could have been called Brett
  9. Bradley might be a contender for the title. He's pretty cute too
  10. Country candidates do not have to attend the breed lectures, though it is advantageous to do so, if possible... That's the thing
  11. Hang on, I have seen this done exactly the way described. I think it is not necessary and I am entitled to my opinion. Whatever happened to positive training ? I believe that there are times when a reprimand or a distraction are warranted. Using the rocking method is more of a distraction than a reprimand. If you are good on the table and stack, you get a treat, if you are naughty on the table and stuff about, you get rocked. Try and run backwards off the table or back up and your back legs fall off. It doesn't take long for a pup to get the idea. NEVER is a puppy treated here, the way that judge did.
  12. I'd love to show you but I only do it from about 6 -9 weeks of age and my babies are now bigger babies
  13. 6 & 6a NOVICE - (6 months and over and not wona first prize at any Open Parade/Open Show orChampionship Show) 7 & 7a GRADUATE - (6 months and over and notwon a challengecertificate) 8 & 8a LIMIT - (over 12 months and not aChampion, or have gained sufficient points toqualify as a Champion)
  14. I'm trying to work out how to do it. I could get to the lectures, that parts is fine but then it would require an overnight stay and that's when things get very costly and also a bit crazy, trying to get home again , first thing the next day.
  15. I completely agree. It is revolting to think this used as a "training" method. Also it is absolutely unnecessary. What on earth is wrong with using treats to get the pup to love all training ? In the case of table training use the treat to "walk" the puppy a step or two. Each to their own. I use a range of training methods, it's not 100% positive all the time. My dogs all love training and they'll turn themselves inside out for me. The current show team has all had a some stage recieved a reprimand, a rocking action or a check from a check chain. There is a huge difference between picking a pup up and rocking it backwards and forwards a couple of times, when compared to what that judge did, the ferocity left me shaking my head
  16. It teaches a puppy to stand still on a table and not to back up. I've never tipped on forwards, as I want mine to lean into themselves. I teach puppies to settle on the table as 6-8 week olds using the method of rocking them. Sometimes I will let the back legs drop off as they get a bit older, maybe a couple of times. Done properly it's not cruel and there's certainly no allowing the dog to hang of the table, shaking it in the manner of the vidoe or man handling the animal in such a rough way around the throat and rear end. The majority of my training for my dogs is positive but I will also use other methods where appropriate. All of my dogs are enthusiastic about getting on the table and have learnt that it's a nice place to be, they stack, stand still and are animated. That judge was completely OTT and had no right to handle and exhibitors dog in such a way.
  17. You had fear aggressive dogs with problems long before that event, did you not ?
  18. Hey Staranais Many people trust, and expect Judges to set an example for all those who are in effect, putting their faith in them to lead and teach. This is especially true of people new to showing and just starting out. Some Judges not only think that it's OK but return home and brag about their 'cruelty' to other breeders. My visit to Dareton, not too distant far, is evidence that they do "spook" bigger dogs but in this case, especially puppies. And not just one judge, but a pair of judges. Fortunately, my dog has mellowed beautifully, which is no accident, since he suffered for many years after his early ideal with this pair of creeps. Dogs NSW and all dog authorities, should suspended and permanently disqualify deceitful, dishonest and cruel judges. It would be an easy matter to collate the statistics from shows with incidents in the show ring, during presentation particularly, and correlate them to the judges presiding. Maybe, some leadership from the authorities will help eradicate bad sport-person-ship, that is still too common, and more often than not, makes what should be an enjoyable and entertaining day, horrendous. Maremmas are a guardian breed. That's what they do, whatever their age, they guard. Dog knows what planet you live on PW but it's not the same one as me, when it comes to shows and judges. I've been showing for 15 years now and have come across one or maybe two that were hard on the dogs. When I say hard, they are a bit heavy handed but certainly nothing like the judge in that clip. I doubt the judges were out to get you or your dog, why would they ? your a tiny fish in the big showing ocean and I can see why they'd be defeitful, dishonest or cruel and single you out. Watch how the judges handle the dogs prior to your class and if you think they are a bit heavy handed or off putting, don;t put your pup/dog in that situation and withdraw it.
  19. I am certainly no fan of the RSPCA and this is a call that they should make more often. I'm not for the attempted rehab of such dogs and putting them through the pain of treatment and the suffering that goes along with it. Of course some of the dogs come out the other end and are eventually rehomed, but what price have the paid along the way, in the name of "rehab"?
  20. You learn something new everyday. I thought 'by law' stray dogs had to be handed into the pound, whether they are chipped or not. ETA I am sure this is the case - unless it is different in different states???? NSW yes.
  21. Nathan the no kill zombie is not the answer to this problem.
  22. and total submission.....eventually That was what I got out of it. Fear and attemtping to flea and submission when there was nowhere to go. The dog simply shut down.
