  1. First thing would be to write yourself a timeline of events and also get together any correspondence you have from council. You can call the DLG with your dogs chip number and ask them if an NOI was issued. If it was you need to details of the date issued etc. You may also want to see what council has on your dog under FOI, there are others that will be able to help you with what you need to do to obtain that. Complaints and accessing records under FOI are not something that I'm familiar with. You are going to be up against one very nasty man, contracted to certain council areas to perform the ACO duties. However if owners don;t complain and follow through, he will keep getting away with killing dogs and not following the due process.
  2. Giving our pups a drink is the final thing that I do before putting them on the plane. They are better off remaining hydrated and doing a wee on their bedding than the other way around. Where a stop over check has been booked, due to flights not connecting quickly, my pups are offered water at that time too. I've lost count of the number of pups I've flown over the years, including the central NSW to Perth. None of the pups have ever arrived stressed in any way, the last one did a poo but who could blame a young puppy for that.
  3. well, there is a due process, where a " notice of intent " to declare a dog to be of a restricted breed is issued and the owner has the opportunity to contact a "breed assessor", to establish the dogs breed, that would have been a start. The vast majority of "nice" dog pass that breed assessment or are determined to be crosses, which means they can go on to have a temperament test. There's 28 days ( as part of the NOI ) to prove by other means , including DNA and evidence of parentage, that you dog is not an APBT or a PB cross. Going a step further back, prior to the NOI being issued, council must also give you 7 days notice before the issue it. During that time you can correspond with council and if satisfied at that point they won't issue one. it's not as simple as council seizing the dog, stating that it is a restricted breed and then destroying it. If the above happened to you and council took the dog and destroyed it without and NOI, then you should be complaining the the council, the DLG and your local state member. If you are in the Kogarah, Hurstville or Rockdale council area, then I have a pretty good idea what you have been through and plead with you to lodge complaints and push it as far as you can.
  4. I'm sorry but that is not how the due process works in the state of NSW. The RSPCA does not seize dogs in such cases where they are suspected of being a " restricted breed ". Councils are the one's with the power to seize when it comes to such dogs. I agree though, something did go terribly wrong and it's very sad that you did not find someone to help you out of that situation. It certainly would not have required a solicitor to save your dog, if he was an Amstaff.
  5. No need. I can loan you a copy. :D You'll not see me with a terrier.. but I've probably got the most people focussed of the sighthounds. You'd LOVE to live with Bretty The Bastard. Did I not tell you that he's on his way
  6. For me the crazier the better. I tend to click with and enjoy the dogs that other people love to hate. I like the out there, in your face, confident dogs, the busy dogs, the dogs with drive, the one's that wreck things, jump on things and generally make a nuisance of themselves. That's the Staffords in general. I find the more "emotional", sour, sedate, less active, low drive dogs a bore. Having said that I own a roller coaster of a Whippet and love her to pieces.
  7. Just what we need, more rules, more regs and higher costs for breeders. There's not "big money" in breeding dogs as a hobby and more restrictive legislation and higher costs, will just see more of the breeders, who should be breeding walk away.
  8. Build another yard or find somewhere to seperate them. Next time you may not be home to sort it out.
  9. If there's a vet to desex, then there's a vet that can euth. Why put a band aid on, spend the money and tackle the problem head on. But then I guess it doesn't give anyone warm fuzzies does it.
  10. They'd be better off cleaning up the streets by euthing them and helping dogs with owners to desex and care for their pets
  11. And just as possible that she wasn't mistreated, but may just be a nervy, badly-bred dog. Her behaviour now is mostly due to her current management, and so that is what needs to be changed. It might be none of the above either. I have one who is very well bred, plenty of drive and balls of steal to go with it. She won;t take two steps off the back verandah to toilet when it's raining and given a chance she'll go in the house too, rather than get her percious feet wet.
  12. When it's raining , it's your responsibility to take her out to the toilet and to make sure that she goes on a regular basis. There's no point in yelling or reprimanding, it will serve only to make her toilet in secret and be afraid of you.
  13. I wouldn;t bother with the Wahls. If he's biting the groomer, there's every chance he'll bite the owner too. The groomer will start with the face and can then pop a muzzle on him for any spots where he's become touchy in his old age. Depending on how he's clipped off now, the owner might want to opt for a shorter, no fuss, no brush cut, this is generally what we do with older dogs. They spend less time with us and on the table.
  14. DO NOT use anything like "Disolve-it" or similar, even if you don't get it on the skin, there will be reactions to it. If you aren't showing your dog. just let it wear out naturally, it will take a couple of weeks.
  15. ring Canberra direct on 02 62549955 and get them to sort it out for you.
  16. Mine has lino, that extends well out of the box. New carpet cut to size ( that gets replaced twice for the first two weeks, then removed ). On top of that is the bedding, in one big sheet
  17. He won't forget you and if you choose wisely, he'll be well looked after and have a good time. Just make sure you choose a kennel where the dogs do revive exercise and are not standing in the same pen day after day, in their own shit and still standing there while they hose it out
  18. Makes me wonder if the dog actually saw a vet at all... My thoughts too, as no vet would miss that and certainly wouldn't send the client home without AB's. A vet would instantly recognise a problem and I'm doubtfull they would even tough them, let alone express them.
  19. They had to be Amstaff's in the first place. You can register an AKC "Amstaff" as a Pit Bull, with other registries in the US. What you can't do ( unless you want to tell lies ) is register a APBT with the AKC.
  20. I can add " belt buckle " to that list. I;ve not had any of the above happen though
  21. We live where there is no danger of flooding but if I ever had to leave them ( and it would probably be over my dead body ) then I would lock each dog in a seperate room of the house, with the biggest water container I can find and leave them with a full bag of dry each. Some of mine are slow self feeders and would survive a week like that. It wouldn't be pretty to come back to but they'd probably survive
